Chapter 29: Fierce Battle (2)

The two ran in place exchanging attacks, then suddenly, Carlos intervened. Having regained a large part of his strength, he swung his axe and rained down several attacks on the spider woman as well.

The spider returned to her monster form, then released a tornado of thin razor-sharp silk threads, and this forced Alvin, who was chasing her, to retreat.

At this stage, she had reached the peak of anger and desperation, especially since her Mana reserve had dropped significantly, and her vitality had also been damaged.

She did not find the time to catch her breath, for Willard suddenly appeared before her, and blocked her path. He did not attack her directly, but stabbed the ground with his sword.

At that moment, dozens of massive transparent swords burst from the ground beneath and around her.

She tried to dodge, but to no avail, a large number of the swords pierced her body, leaving deep wounds, and five of her legs were cut off.

"Damn you all." She shouted, her thunderous voice shook everyone’s ears, even Arthur, who was watching from afar, trembled with fear. Of course, he did not understand what she said, and all he heard was something resembling a thunderous roar.

She regenerated her body quickly, then struck the ground hard with her legs, and just as had happened with the swords, thousands of sharp white spears burst from the ground, forming a circular forest of spears with a diameter of half a kilometer.

Willard fled at his maximum speed, while Alvin tried to dodge the spears and launch a counter-attack, but the density of the spears ultimately forced him to retreat.

The Calamity Spider directed her gaze toward Carlos, who stood far away. He was currently in a weaker state compared to the rest, so she decided to eliminate him, to reduce the pressure on herself.

Without any hesitation, she surged toward him. When Carlos saw that she was targeting him, he did not feel anxious, he struck his chest hard, and said: "Come to daddy."

He released all the strength he had, and unleashed his signature skill, the massive projection began forming around him, but suddenly, something strange happened.

The projection shook, and cracks extended through it, then it shattered and turned to dust. Carlos coughed up some blood, and a shocked expression appeared on his face.

"What happened?" He muttered, unable to comprehend what was occurring. He quickly examined his body, and at that moment, he discovered something horrifying, there was a lethal poison inside his body, and it did not belong to the spider.

"How is this possible? Who? Who did this?" He raised his head in terror, and looked at his companions, then at the Calamity Spider heading toward him, at that moment his eyes met her red eyes.

A strange feeling came over him. His features and body convulsed, and he began losing his will, he loosened his grip on his axe, and it fell to the ground.

Inside he was screaming and trying to push his body to move, but to no avail, her charm took control of him, and he felt a strong attraction toward her.

’Damn, this is not good.’ Alvin noticed something wrong with Carlos, for this was the first time he saw his projection dissipate in this strange way.

He wanted to run to save him, but he was far from him. Just as had happened with Selene earlier, reaching him in time was impossible.

All he could do was swing his sword, and release a volley of energy blades, hoping to slow her down.

Whoosh!

Slash!

Several blades hit the spider, and cut two of her hind legs, and because she was forced to dodge the repeated attacks, her speed slowed, and this in turn gave Carlos some time.

He gritted his teeth until his gums bled. His body trembled frantically, and after a long ordeal, he managed to move his hand.

"Die." When the Calamity Spider noticed that, she opened her mouth wide, and attacked him with a flood of acid.

"Shit." Helpless, Carlos watched the flood of acid heading toward him, which unfortunately dissolved everything in its path.

At the last moment, when he thought death had caught up with him, Willard arrived at his side. He swung his sword, and released a wave of wind that pushed the acid away from them.

A little of the acid passed and fell on Carlos, his armor protected most of his body, but the few drops that hit the exposed parts of his body dissolved his skin and flesh, leaving horrific injuries.

The intense pain made him regain control of himself, he tried to activate his healing skills, and again the poison inside his body impeded the flow of his energy.

This was almost the first time in his life that he had felt such intense fear. He looked at Willard beside him, and found him standing still, with a terrified expression on his face as well.

He turned and looked at him, at that moment, they noticed that each other’s eyes were bleeding black blood. They opened their mouths, and said at the same time: "Someone poisoned me."

Suddenly, the ground beneath them shook, the Calamity Spider reached them, she raised her massive front legs, and brought them down on them, wanting to trample them and turn them into minced meat.

Willard raised his sword horizontally, while Carlos pressed his arms in front of his face like a boxer.

Crack!

The legs fell on them. The ground cracked beneath them, and their bodies sank into the soil. Without giving them any chance to resist, the spider raised her legs, and struck them again, and again, like a hammer driving nails.

Their features contorted, their bones cracked, and their veins burst, and their muscles tore. Blood came out from every part of their bodies.

The spider smiled wickedly, and continued trampling them, releasing a little of her hatred, and she was also aware that they were as tough as cockroaches, and would not die easily, so she had to grind them thoroughly.

When she was about to finish them off completely, a fire beam emanated from a distant place. The beam hit her front legs, and turned them to ash.

She retreated in terror, and looked toward the source of the beam, and found Selene standing with her back against a tree, directing her staff toward her.

She was in a terrible state, her nose was broken, her mouth was shattered, and blood filled her pale face, her mind was in chaos, and had it not been for Baldwin supporting her with his healing skill, she would not have been able to stay standing.

"You, how?" The Calamity Spider was shocked, she had been certain she had finished her off earlier, so upon seeing her standing there nearly unharmed, she could not accept it.

Selene the Arcanist was the greatest threat to her, and that was because of her specialization in the fire element.

Her senses warned her of someone approaching. She quickly retreated dodging several energy blades that were targeting her.

Alvin arrived and stood as a barrier between her and his injured companions, or more precisely, his crushed companions.

Even though they had sustained extremely severe damage, Carlos and Willard continued clinging to life, and if they were treated quickly, they would survive.

"Why? Why won’t you die?" The Calamity Spider’s desperation grew, and even though she had gotten rid of two of her enemies, she was aware that she could not continue fighting, she would not win.

She regenerated her legs, and evaded the fireballs and energy blades that rained on her from every direction. Her mind worked at its maximum capacity, and her eight eyes examined her surroundings carefully.

The absence of Carlos and Willard made a clear difference, for the pressure on her had eased, and several gaps appeared that could be exploited to escape. But, first she had to make sure the rest of the humans would not chase her.

Without any hesitation, she jumped high into the sky, built a three-layered barrier beneath her, protecting her from Alvin and Selene’s attacks.

After that, she burned almost all the Mana she had left, and used her most powerful wide-range skill.

In the sky around her, and across a circle with a diameter of two and a half kilometers, tens of thousands of massive spears formed. They blocked the sun, and their shadows filled the ground.

Before she unleashed her devastating attack, her bloodline, which was working at its maximum strength, displayed a strange reaction that lasted only for a moment.

She turned her head slightly, and looked toward the source of the reaction, and at that moment she saw a grey wolf standing on a high tree branch, staring at her in dread.

Their eyes met, and she felt that this small and weak wolf was somewhat familiar, but she was not in a position that allowed her to stop and think about the matter.

She redirected her gaze toward the humans, then rained down her spears upon them.

Without waiting for the results of her attack, she used the barrier beneath her as a foothold, and pushed herself away, fleeing from the place.
