SSS-Rank Bloodline: Wolf Evolution
Chapter 8: Rest and Recovery
The following day, Arthur woke up late, and the first thing he did was groan in pain.
He moved his body heavy with wounds slowly, and changed his position, then began licking his wounds again as though he were a wolf by birth.
Even though he felt strange while doing it, the licking helped him greatly, for it eased his pain, and made him feel a kind of relief, and it was also a good way to clean himself.
After a few minutes, he finished what he was doing, a serious look appeared on his face, then he stood up, but the moment he put his full weight on his legs, he began to tremble.
He gritted his fangs, and with difficulty took a step forward then two and three, he walked back and forth inside the cave several times, then returned to his bed panting.
He lay down or rather fell onto the straw exhausted, and muttered: "The situation is worse than I thought, at this rate, I will not regain my ability to move freely except after several days."
He frowned and did not like it at all, just thinking about spending a long time inside the cave doing nothing bothered him greatly, and this is without mentioning the fact that he was unable to hunt throughout all this period.
He stared at the rocky walls that surrounded him from every direction, and felt a tightness in his chest, after a brief moment of hesitation, he activated the Primal Predator bloodline.
At that moment, an intense calm washed over him, coldness took control of his features, and all the chaos in his head disappeared, and his focus multiplied several times over, and in exchange for that his emotions became numb, and he no longer cared about anything.
Most importantly this strange mental state made him ignore all distractions, and this created a suitable space for his human mind to display its full capabilities.
Like an advanced computer, he reviewed everything he had gone through during the past two days. He analyzed the hunting operations he had carried out and classified the creatures and plants he had seen.
After that he focused on his fight with the leopard, he reviewed the details of the chaotic battle, extracted the mistakes he had made, and thought of solutions and attacks that would have helped him win had he performed them.
And within just thirty minutes, he had accumulated a large amount of theoretical experience that only needed to be applied, and he also gained a greater understanding of his abilities, and what his new body could do.
This was remarkable, but unfortunately it did not last long, for he quickly felt drained, and was forced to deactivate his bloodline.
When its effects disappeared, he took a deep breath, and thought with a kind of awe.
’Even after experiencing this several times, this legendary bloodline is truly terrifying and sends a chill through me, despite its many advantages, and my dire need for it, I cannot stop myself from feeling anxious,if I were unable to maintain my rationality while activating it, who knows what kind of blood-thirsty monster I would become...’
Growl!
His stomach interrupted him, he licked his dry lips, and looked at the cave entrance with frustration: "It is only the first day, and yet I am already hungry and thirsty."
He had eaten a hearty meal just the previous night, and yet, he had become thinner than before, he appeared as though he had not eaten for several days.
This confused him at first, but he quickly realized the reason: ’Using the Primal Predator bloodline was truly a bad idea, it consumed all my energy, and on top of that burned my body’s fat, it is better that I do not use it during the recovery period.’
The frustration on his face increased, and he sighed: "The coming days will be very long."
Given his inability to hunt and satisfy his hunger, all he could do was endure and wait until he recovered, and because of this, time passed very slowly for him.
The first two days were the hardest, he spent them sleeping and lying down doing nothing but staring at the walls. On the third day he regained a large part of his ability to move, so he went outside the cave a little, but he did not go far and stayed close to it.
Little by little his hunger and thirst increased, and to silence his stomach which had not stopped growling like a raging beast, he ate some of the giant insects that were roaming around, and not only that, he also ate grass and a few strange fruits.
This gave him severe indigestion that made him suffer greatly, but in exchange for this pain, and the suffering of constantly going out to defecate, he gained 10 XP that gave him two Evolution Points which he added to Vitality and Strength.
And also his hunger eased greatly, or rather, his stomach lost the desire for food for a while.
By the eighth day, almost all his wounds had healed, and even though he had not fully recovered, he decided to return to hunting, for his patience had run out, and his hunger had become impossible to ignore, as for thirst, he no longer paid it any mind because on the fifth day, he had headed to the stream, and drank until he was full.
On the morning of the ninth day, Arthur woke up energetically, stretched his body full of scars, and wagged his tail happily like a pet dog that was about to go out for a walk.
"Finally I will return to the wild as a predator, that feeling of helplessness I experienced in the previous days was extremely suffocating." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
He bared his fangs and claws and rushed out of the cave, and without allowing his excitement to carry him away, he maintained his caution, and moved through the forest fully prepared either to flee or confront in case any threat appeared.
His senses worked at their strongest, his nose followed and sorted scents, while his eyes noticed the various types of tracks present on the ground, as for his ears they were like a biological radar that picked up the simplest sounds in his surroundings.
Little by little he moved away from the cave heading south, he did not see many monsters on his way, and did not find suitable prey until after he had covered a distance of two and a half miles.
[ Rabbit — Common — Unranked ]
’Even the ordinary rabbit in this world is about twice the size of the rabbits that exist on Earth, well, this is not really a bad thing, for the bigger the size the more meat I get.’
He took a deep breath, and without using the Primal Predator bloodline this time, he crept silently toward the rabbit relying only on the experience he had gained from his previous encounters.
The rabbit ate the grass with extreme caution, and from time to time, it stopped to take a careful look at its surroundings, suddenly, its ears picked up the sound of faint footsteps.
It froze in place for a moment, turned its head, and looked behind it, at that moment it saw a fierce-looking wolf, creeping toward it, its heart skipped a beat, and without any hesitation it darted away fleeing at its maximum speed.
