Chapter 1148 - 1147
"I noticed that there's a guard over there. The prisoners are working in the quarry, all under surveillance, but from the guard's viewpoint, there's just a blind spot. By utilizing this blind spot, a prisoner can briefly escape surveillance. I calculated it; it's about ten seconds. In other words, a prisoner needs to climb over this wall within ten seconds."
Lin Fan said, as he spoke, he grabbed the pillar of the rain shelter with his hand, quickly climbed to the top of the shelter, then leaped from the top to grip the top of the high wall, and with a nimble jump, he sat atop the wall.
It took just a few seconds!
Seeing this scene, everyone was stunned. Lin Fan's skills were incredible!
The warden was completely dumbfounded.
He had learned earlier that a prisoner had climbed out from here and found it unbelievable because ordinary people simply couldn't climb up there!
But seeing Lin Fan's demonstration, he couldn't help but believe it.
Lin Fan, however, ignored everyone's surprise, peeked outside, and said, "It's about four meters high outside, with stones below. An ordinary person jumping down would at best twist an ankle and at worst get hurt, but this fugitive wasn't injured. Instead, he got up and ran. This guy is a martial artist!"
Saying that, Lin Fan jumped down from the wall, first landing on the rain shelter, then jumping directly to the ground, landing steadily.
This surprised everyone again.
The skills were too strong.
"Mr. Zhao, could you tell me about this prisoner?" Lin Fan looked at the warden and smiled.
The warden came to his senses, marveling inwardly. Now he understood why Lin Fan wasn't a police officer, yet the police sought his help. This young man was no ordinary person.
The warden cleared his throat and said, "The prisoner is named Ye Tianyu, thirty-one years old, a worker from outside Yun City. Last October, he lost his ID card, couldn't find a job, and committed robbery in the street, resulting in arrest and imprisonment."
Lin Fan said, "Is this his first time at this quarry?"
The warden replied, "No, it's not his first time. He usually comes here about four times a month."
Lin Fan asked, "How has the prisoner behaved in prison?"
The warden answered, "He's always been honest, actively working. We initially planned to reduce his sentence, yet he escaped. I was quite surprised when I found out he ran away."
Lin Fan nodded: "I see this rain shelter has been here for quite some time."
The warden said, "Yes, the rain shelter has always been here. It was damaged by a typhoon six months ago and renovated once."
Lin Fan asked, "With Ye Tianyu's skills, if he wanted to escape, he had many opportunities before. Why did he wait until today? Has Ye Tianyu shown any unusual behavior recently?"
The warden asked, "Mr. Lin's meaning? For example, any unusual behavior?"
Lin Fan said, "Such as anyone he recently contacted or any visitors. He had the opportunity before but chose to escape today. He must have some reason."
The warden shook his head and said, "He has no contact with the outside world. He has no relatives. Since he was imprisoned, no one has visited him."
Lin Fan nodded, thinking for a moment, and asked, "Have there been any new prisoners in the past two weeks?"
The warden asked curiously, "The prison sees new prisoners almost every day. Why does Mr. Lin ask about this?"
Lin Fan said, "I suspect the prisoner came into contact with some external news, leading to the intention to escape. If he hasn't contacted outsiders, then he received external information from prison staff, especially new prisoners who might inadvertently let Ye Tianyu obtain some information. If we know his motivation for escape, we might know where he went."
Upon hearing this, everyone nodded, thinking Lin Fan made sense.
Loli said, "Brother Zhao, could you gather the prisoners who arrived in the last two weeks? We need to interrogate them one by one."
The warden said, "That's easy. I'll make a call to have my staff handle it, but you'll need to come to the prison."
Yun City Prison.
The night was fully dark, the playground brightly lit, with about ten prisoners lined up. These were the prisoners who entered Yun City Prison in the last two weeks.
Lin Fan arrived at the prison, standing before these prisoners, observing them one by one.
Loli stepped forward and said, "A prisoner escaped today, presumably everyone has heard of it. The prisoner, named Ye Tianyu, is in the photo. Has anyone among you recognized him or seen him?"
Loli held a photo of Ye Tianyu taken when he was imprisoned.
The prisoners looked over, some shook their heads, while others nodded.
Loli said, "For each of you, if you haven't had contact with Ye Tianyu, say so. If you have, tell us everything you talked about."
Hence, the prisoners began speaking one by one.
"I haven't seen this person."
"I don't recall any contact with him."
"I don't remember."
"I've seen him, but I haven't spoken to him. I remember he was always alone, eating quietly, working quietly, rarely interacting with others."
"I remember once during a meal, he sat at the table next to mine while I talked to my fellow prisoner about why I came..."
About ten prisoners each narrated the situation, and soon they all finished speaking.
The results of the inquiry showed no valuable clues. Those who hadn't interacted with Ye Tianyu were irrelevant, and even those who had didn't provide anything special.
Loli felt a bit disappointed, thinking they were doing useless work, failing to find anything valuable.
She turned to Lin Fan, noticing his gaze fixed on one particular prisoner.
This prisoner was in his thirties, short and unremarkable. Loli remembered he claimed earlier not to have seen Ye Tianyu.
"Why are you lying?" Lin Fan stared at the short prisoner and calmly asked.
The prisoner was startled, "I'm not lying! I really haven't seen this person; I know nothing!"
Lin Fan said, "You say you're not lying, but unfortunately, your eyes betray you. If you know why the prisoner escaped yet fail to report it, what would be the consequences?"
The warden said, "Anyone withholding information or harboring fugitives will be held legally responsible. If you fail to report, you might face additional penalties."
The short prisoner turned pale with fear and stammered, "I really know nothing. Don't push me."
No need for top insight; anyone could tell from his demeanor that something was definitely up.
"Brother Zhao, I'd like to speak to him alone." Lin Fan said to the warden.
The warden then had staff take this short prisoner to a room.
Lin Fan walked into the room alone, sat across from the shivering prisoner, glanced at him, and smiled, "No need to be nervous; there is no one else here. Tell me what you know. If you can help, I'll promise you something."
Under Lin Fan's persuasion, the short prisoner finally spoke, "I never said anything to that person. It's just that the other day I was in the bathroom and overheard him whispering with another prisoner. I only heard him say something like 'they're here.'
Lin Fan frowned. They're here?
Who is here?
