Surviving in the Beast World with a System
Chapter 415 - 357: Success
Meanwhile, the four of them, having finished discussing the blueprints, divided the labor. Teng Kun led some slaves to transport the earth needed to build the brick kiln.
Wu Yue and Yuan Lang, on the other hand, began the delicate work that always drove Beastmen to distraction—making the molds.
Only a Beastman’s claws could shape the thick lumber into the necessary forms.
Compared to Wu Yue, a modern woman who only knew about hammers and nails, Yuan Lang was far more familiar with ancient techniques like mortise and tenon joinery.
The molds he made, however, were for bricks much larger than any she had seen before.
"The beasts here are incredibly destructive. Although a cave can’t stop the most powerful Fierce Beasts, our walls must be sturdy enough to repel an attack from an ordinary beast."
Wu Yue nodded. ’That’s right. The beasts and Fierce Beasts of this world are nothing like the ones from my previous world.’
Yuan Lang carved the individual parts of the molds while Wu Yue assembled them. By the end of the day, the two of them had produced dozens.
On the other side, since the plan was to build a test kiln first to see if they could even fire bricks, Teng Qian and Teng Kun had already begun construction with the slaves.
As they bustled about, the Clan Leader and the witch watched their busy figures from a distance, a dozen or so Beastman Warriors standing behind them. The Clan Leader couldn’t help but sigh. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"And here they were, talking about building stone houses. These kids have been busy all day, but they haven’t brought back a single dressed stone. They’re just playing with mud."
The witch, however, gazed intently at the young female bustling about with Yuan Lang. ’I hope Yue can bring another surprise to the tribe this time,’ he thought.
But the survival of every person in the tribe was at stake; he couldn’t place all his hopes on Wu Yue.
He gave a light wave of his gaunt hand. "You may depart. Find a place suitable for digging caves and return quickly."
The dozen or so Beastman Warriors behind him bowed low with solemn faces. "Yes."
Then, they quickly sped away, heading out of the tribe.
Yuan Lang, in the middle of splitting a thick log, seemed to sense something and glanced toward the distant figures of the departing Beastman Warriors.
His thin lips pressed together. ’I hope those Beastman Warriors make it back safely,’ he thought.
The finished molds were piled into a small mountain.
Wu Yue looked over at Yuan Lang. "Should we get some clay to test it out? To see if it comes out of the mold easily?"
Yuan Lang’s hands stilled for a moment. He nodded and stood up. "You assemble the rest of these. I’ll go get the clay."
The slaves carefully pounded the clods of earth until no large particles remained.
It was highly viscous when mixed with water. The prepared clay had to be worked for some time before being packed into the mold.
After pressing it down firmly, Wu Yue swallowed nervously. ’Please let this work,’ she hoped.
Whether it was because the mold was polished so smoothly, or perhaps because the quality of the clay was good, the resulting brick was very dense and not at all loose. It slid easily out of the mold.
This made Wu Yue let out a huge sigh of relief. ’We’re amazing!’
After they finished a round of weeding, only a few slaves were left behind to watch the taro field. Wu Yue conscripted the rest, and they all began to focus their efforts on making green bricks.
The green bricks made from clay were placed in the cave where they had sheltered from the long rainy season to slowly air-dry before they could be fired.
The green bricks were made, but they couldn’t compare to real, fired bricks. Wu Yue also tried firing some directly in an open fire.
But of the three she put in, not a single one was successful, thoroughly crushing any of her wishful thinking.
What she hadn’t expected was that the roof tile molds, which had been racking her brain, turned out to be much easier to make than the brick molds. This was because Yuanlang Warrior had simply split their bamboo water containers in half to serve as molds.
Wu Yue couldn’t help but give him an admiring thumbs-up. "Your intelligence is truly very good!"
"Very good?" ’The language from this female’s country is truly bizarre,’ he thought. ’So many words I can’t understand.’
Wu Yue chuckled and nodded. "It’s the language of some tiny, insignificant country from back where I’m from. It just means ’you’re amazing.’"
Hearing the dislike in her voice, Yuan Lang also lost any good feelings for this "tiny, insignificant country." He said, "It’s better to speak the language of our great nation."
Wu Yue nodded in fervent agreement. "Mhm, you’re absolutely right."
Seeing her nod so obediently, Yuan Lang, for some unknown reason, felt a strange sense of satisfaction, like a husband leading and his wife following in harmony.
With the molds ready, the production of the green bricks and tiles could be left entirely to the slaves.
By the third day, the brick kiln Teng Qian and Teng Kun were building was finally complete and ready to be used.
