Surviving the apocalypse with a wife and a system! [GL]
Chapter 96: Coming out of the hospital 2.
The zombies noticed her very quickly, but Bai Li was already used to fighting in stairwells. She knew how to use the narrow space so the zombies could not move all at once. She remained calm, even while the things lunged toward her with awkward, stiff speed. First she kicked the two leading zombies charging at her, sending them stumbling and rolling back. Then she moved in fast and slashed down with her Tang sword, the blade cutting through the air with a speed that looked almost like lightning. The six zombies had no real intelligence, and because they were all packed tightly together, they kept blocking one another. Once Bai Li kicked a few of them over, several needed time just to get back up, and in that time they were easy targets. On top of that, most of these zombies had been elderly before the infection, which meant their bones were weaker and more brittle. They were not hard for Bai Li to deal with once she had the upper hand. After a few sharp strikes, four of the zombies were already motionless on the stairs. The remaining two were pinned under the bodies of the zombies above them and could not even move properly. Bai Li rushed over and slashed at one of them, ending it with a single clean blow. Then, just as she was getting ready to finish the last one, she noticed Yan Cijin right there with her own kukri, hacking at the final zombie until she finally severed its head. Bai Li looked at that and nodded with a satisfied little smile. Yan Cijin was growing up fast. In this kind of world, learning how to fight and how to stay steady was not just useful, it was necessary. Yan Cijin had already started to adapt to apocalypse life, and that mattered more than anything else right then. Bai Li gave a small, simple command, "Letβs go," and with that a slight smile appeared on her lips as she kept moving downward.
The two of them walked all the way to the second floor, and along the way they only ran into two more zombies. Bai Li dealt with both of them very quickly, not letting them get close enough to make things messy. Every movement from her had a clear purpose. There was no waste, no extra motion, just efficient fighting and the need to keep moving. Bai Li then turned her head and lowered her voice when she asked Yan Cijin where the nearest door was. Yan Cijin answered just as quickly, telling her that if they went out this way, they would find a small side door. Bai Li nodded once. She did not waste time thinking about it too much. She immediately pulled Yan Cijin toward the small door, because the first goal was simple, get out of the building. There were a few zombies in the corridor on the first floor, but Bai Li did not bother with them. They were only trying to leave the building first. As long as they could get out, the rest could be handled outside. In less than a minute, Bai Li had dragged Yan Cijin out through the small side door. Bai Li herself was fine, but Yan Cijin, who had been pulled along by her, was already close to running out of breath. Even so, there was still no time to rest.
With a thought, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 appeared on the path next to the side door. At that same moment, zombies that had been several dozen steps away had already noticed Bai Li and Yan Cijin, and now they were running toward them. Bai Li quickly pulled Yan Cijin over to the motorcycle, climbed on, and started it up. The loud roar of the heavy motorcycle instantly filled the air, and the sound was so strong that the nearby zombies were clearly startled. For a moment, they seemed to hesitate, then they began gathering toward the noise anyway, drawn in by instinct. Bai Li gripped the handlebars and shifted gears at once. She told Yan Cijin to get on quickly, her voice firm and sharp. Yan Cijin did not need to be told twice. Without waiting for another push, she already had half her steps onto the motorcycle. Seeing the zombies getting closer and closer, and more of them piling in from different directions, Bai Li quickly turned around and helped Yan Cijin sit down behind her. She told her to hold on tight. Yan Cijin did exactly that, wrapping her arms around Bai Liβs waist from behind, and Bai Li could feel the tight grip immediately. The next second, the flashy purple motorcycle shot forward like an arrow leaving a bow. The whole body of the machine seemed to surge with power as Bai Li twisted the throttle, and the wind rushed past them in a hard, cold stream. π§πβ―ππππππ°π·π¦π.πΈβ΄π
With a rumbling roar, Bai Li pulled off a beautiful drift. The move came fast and smooth, and it knocked away several zombies that had been blocking the way. She braced herself on one leg, kept one hand steady on the handlebars, and swerved back onto the side road before speeding off again. The whole thing happened so quickly that it almost looked unreal, like the kind of thing people only expected to see in a movie.
But here it was happening in the middle of a zombie filled city, with danger all around and no room for mistakes. Meanwhile, the other survivors in the hospital had also heard the loud noise coming from downstairs, and their curiosity got the better of them. They peered out from the windows and saw two people riding a supercar through the zombie horde, weaving through the mess again and again, sometimes knocking zombies away so hard that they flew far back and landed in broken, bloody shapes.
Some of the survivors could not even believe what they were seeing. Among them were also some more colleagues of Yan Cijin, and they stared hard at the scene below. One person on the upper floors pointed and said, "Look, isnβt that Dr. Yan riding that motorcycle down there?" The others watched with wide eyes, still trying to make sense of it all.
