Chapter 21: Being A Boyfriend Again

After an eternity, they both figured that it was time to withdraw. Roman moved half a step back, and Rena stood right in front of him, staring right into his eyes like someone who had completely fallen.

Roman himself wasn’t having the kind of look he used to have towards her, but yes, he wasn’t going to say he had fallen in love again.

’No way!’

If there’s anyone who has, it would be the young lady standing in front of him and waiting for him to deliver the answer that she sought to hear.

"What do you say now, sweetie?" she said with a charming look and tone, squinting her eyes and biting her lips.

Roman thought for a moment before finally giving a nod.

"Alright. Let’s see how it goes," he said.

"Oh my... is that a YES?" Rena asked excitedly, almost jumping.

"That’s a YES," Roman said with a slight smile.

The next moment, Rena began jumping like she had won a lottery. Her dramatic reaction made Roman furrow his brows, but he could do nothing to stop her.

All he was so surprised about was how she had seen dating him as a big deal. Roman, who had never had a good rating of himself, didn’t think that a girl would ever react this way after he accepted to date her.

In fact, it was the first time he had experienced a girl asking him out, and this one was really not just a beautiful lady. She was one that almost every guy would want; however, he just got her by her own offer!

He remembered how he spent almost three months flirting around Tessa and begging her to be his girlfriend. It hadn’t been a really good trial, but at last, it had ended with her accepting him and then shattering his heart later on.

Roman didn’t want such a thing to happen to him again, and that’s why he didn’t want to be a lover boy anymore. He wasn’t going to fall too deeply in love unless his partner had proven enough why he should.

"Doesn’t that mean I’m your girlfriend now? And you are my boyfriend?" she happened to ask all these silly questions, and well, Roman was just willing to answer them.

"Yes. That’s right."

Her delightful expressions were evident, but Roman still wanted to see more of why she had suddenly liked him so much. Well, he was sure she had seen his potential, but was that what it was all about?

There had to be more factors that had triggered her feelings, right?

Plus, Roman had seen their union as something that would benefit him a lot, because as a First Class, Rena has the potential to rise high in the Badlands.

He hadn’t known her Talent yet, but he believed it was going to be something quite capable of raising her above the ranks.

If he associated with such a person who would have high ambition, wouldn’t it boost their chances of success?

For as long as their relationship might last, he believed that something very good would come out of it.

They continued their walk west, and Rena was already holding his arm on their way. She didn’t take long to trigger another conversation, and well... Roman was having to tolerate everything from his new girlfriend.

The first period of every relationship was like no other. Because even though he was asked to eat shit...

He would eat shit.

"So tell me. What’s your Talent?" she asked. "The way you killed the Goblin King. I know that a Mage can’t do that, and it must have been something else."

"Well, since you want to know, I’m going to tell you," Roman began.

"That’s my Talent. It allows me to stay invisible for a while, and I can also attack when I’m not seen. A bit similar to one of your Profession Skills, right?"

"Yes," Rena smiled. "You are right. Just that it has a cooldown, and when my Mana is exhausted, I can no longer use the skill. Pretty much why a Talent is stronger than a Skill."

Roman nodded. "True."

It hadn’t taken him much to lie about his Talent, as he figured it wasn’t the right time to say it. He hadn’t gotten to trust her enough to even talk about the Legendary Blessing, much less his anomaly Talent.

Their relationship had just lasted for minutes, and even if it went quite further, Roman was going to be careful.

They had walked for over two minutes before they finally reached their destination. Well, it wasn’t like it was their destination.

It was where they had found themselves after choosing where to go from the map on the BSP.

[Location: Wild of Howls.]

[Inhabitants: Black Dire Wolves.]

[Chances of survival: 39%.]

"Thirty-nine percent? That’s... bad," he smirked.

"Yeah," Rena sighed.

Even with a partner around, the COS was very low. This was to highlight that they might be facing a real battle here.

One that they hadn’t seen before.

He suddenly recollected what Norman had said to him, and even before he got to experience it, he had accepted the confirmation.

"The second day is not going to be like the first."

Rena turned with a curious look on her face.

"He told you that too?" she asked.

Roman nodded.

It appeared that it was both of them that had received the advisory from Master Norman, and at this point, they were getting to see the revelation of what he had said display itself.

GROOOWL!

GROOOWL!

Before they knew it, the owners of the territory started to show up. Two giant black wolves stepped out from the woods, their dark eyes striking towards the duo at the entrance of their territory.

Before they knew it, about five more Dire Wolves came out.

They continued to salivate in intense hunger to devour, and the intruders? They were only getting set to face the greatest hunt of their life yet.

Roman turned to Rena.

"You ready?"

She heaved a deep sigh and gave a nod.

"Damn ready."

Roman nodded, but he hadn’t only accepted her response because of what she said. It was because her countenance and composure were pretty evident.

It was Rena anyway. Regardless of the fact that she’s his girlfriend, she is a badass figure.

Thus, they faced the monsters and got ready for the showdown.

Roman drew out Queenfang.

[You have successfully switched to the Swordsman Profession.]

’Yeah... best option.’
