Chapter 17: Chapter 17 : Hunger

The soft sound of a door being unlocked echoed as Zeres entered. The Practical Evaluation for day one had ended quietly, except for his gut feeling that told him he was being observed.

"Still, no named characters were matched today, their schedule might be tommorow" Zeres murmured, he glanced at the water on a mug, then he sighed "Since when did I hate water? " he forcefully chugged it down. It had been like this since yesterday, his appetite on things were lacking, he couldn’t even sleep properly—he was constantly being bothered by the sound of beating hearts and the scent of fresh blood.

"When will I get used to this? " he sighed, moving the curtains, he stared outside—the scenery was peaceful, tall pillars and a yellow streetlights illuminating the place.

His gaze drifted every where for a moment "I should just sleep" he turned around, then he went on his bed.

___________

"Fuck, I haven’t had a proper sleep" Zeres stared at the wooden ceiling, his mouth felt dry since yesterday even though he had already drank water or even liqours.

"I want some liqours" he grumbled as he let his mana seeped out from his pale fingertips, he then sent it inside his storage ring and a bottle of ancient liqours appeared.

"Ohh, right, I want to see the weapons" his eyes gleamed when he remembered his storage ring had many weapons, he wanted to test it. Just then, a soft chime echoed inside of his head and a red translucent screen appeared.

[Notice : Host won’t be able to use the weapons inside.]

[Reason : Host is too weak.]

Zeres stared incredulous, he laughed at himself before he got up to take a bath.

Zeres sat at the seat leisurely, he stared down at the arena, Feilres stood there, stretching slightly while Saelyz walked quietly.

"This is our first time seeing a fight of Dual-elements" the students seating shifted, their attentions all focused below the arena.

"Let the match begin! "

Feilres moved, his sword glanced with a yellow mana as he swung it horizontally—his sword was met with a clanking sound as a blue barrier shielded Saelyz, her hands then extended and multiple blue magic circles appeared, an extremely sharp ice spears emerged from every circles.

"Is that the level of a Mid-rank Gifted, being able to shorten the chants" the students murmured, their expression a mixture of awe and envy.

"That looks dangerous" Feilres smiled as he retreated, his stance shifted and a blazing hot flame appeared coating his sword. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

’I can finally see it’ Zeres leaned forward, the flame on the sword of Feilres wasn’t ordinary, it was a Divine Flame, this flame was something only someone with the blood of Mersell flowing within them can use.

The air shifted as both of them prepared to test each others level.

’Though it’s quite clear who’ll win’ Zeres closed his eyes for a moment, Divine Flame or not, it won’t work on someone like Saelyz.

Then Feilres lunged, his sword glowed brightly, it illuminated the whole arena for a moment before it was meet with an opposing element. The ground shook as steam erupted covering the whole place.

’So she plan to finish this quickly’ Zeres shook his head lightly, it would be more fun if he could gauge her true level, but it seems she knows that, that’s wahy she’s not planning to show it here.

When the smoke died down, Saelyz was still standing, and so is Feilres—but his thighs were frozen, and two sharp ice spears was upon him.

"Winner, Student Saelyz! " the professor announced, his voice, enhanced by mana reverberated across the entire arena.

"I thought the Class A’s Duel match will be longer, but it seems even between them there is a difference"

’What is Feilres thinking?’ Zeres thought as he munched on a bread, the rest of the match will be boring so he went out, he’ll just wait for Aeliz match.

"Tsk, even this one taste so bland" Zeres glared at the bread in his hand, everything he ate lately tasted bland, no matter who cooked it.

While walking, he found a seat bear a tall tree, it was a perfect spot for resting and there were barely any students passing there.

"What a nice place" staring at the sky, Zeres smiled softly. He had always admired the sky, he loved how the way people described success as soaring high to the sky, somehow—it had become the symbol of success, of freedom; so he always has this foolish dream. A dream of becoming the sky itself.

"Hey, you’re in my spot" Zeres was pulled away from his thoughts when he heard a soft voice beside him, his head snapped sideways, a woman with long violet hair sat beside him, her amethyst-like eyes were half-lidded then her head fell lightly on Zeres’ shoulders.

"Hey, you’re sleeping on a strangers shoulders" Zeres shook his shoulder lightly, but Helize’ head won’t fall off.

Zeres stared at her, she was also one of the characters with the most potential as far as he can remember, this woman wasn’t a human, she was an elf—her whole identity’s just fabricated, though she’s still a sloth.

Aside from that, she was also a dual-affinity gifted, if she didn’t slack off, her level would be the same as Aeliz right now—but she wasn’t fond of violence, even now, she just finished her duel with the least violence as possible.

’It’s just like my younger sister’ Zeres smiled softly, then he carefully put her head on his lap, gently stroking her hair, Helize shifted slightly, then clasped her hand on his back, embracing him gently.

’What’s with this girl, acting so familiar—still, I’ll let you go this once as you remind me of my sister’ Zeres took of his academy blazer, then he covered it on Helize’ thighs.

"Tsk, too careless" he clicked his tounge, still stroking her silky long violet hair, he stared at her hair color for a moment, then he laughed quietly as he remembered he won’t be able to get up without disturbing this troublesome kid.

’Is there something wrong with this girl’s head? ’ Zeres thought, almost every students was avoiding him because of the rumors going around, which he doesn’t care—as long as it helps him have a quiet life, he’ll keep it.

’Ahh, right, we barely even talked, she’s the most quiet student in class A as she’s always sleepy’ Zeres flexed his fingers, letting his mana enter the storage ring. Then a liqour appeared, he chugged it down quickly; he need it urgently—he need to prevent himself to be controlled by beastly nature.

_______________

In a luxurious room filled with jewelries and expensive ornaments, the scent of papers and ink mingled as it drifted across the room. A man clad in silver armor with gold linings bowed, then he spoke, his voice low—fearful even.

"Your Highness, Based on the news we’ve received from the Academy, there’s one commoner who managed to get in class A. However, he is a vampire and there were some rumors that he was on good terms with the second prince" the knight sneaked up a glance, a young man sat at a table—reading some letters written in a yellow parchment. His platinum-blonde hair shone as it was hit by sunlight, eyes as deep as the ocean—and a gentle smile plastered on his face.

"A vampire huh, then it will be easy—but I need more information before scouting that student, work on it" he replied, his voice was gentle, but it somehow made the knight shiver as he stood up, then he bowed.

The soft sound of a doorknob clicking echoed on the silent room as the man continued to read on the parchment he had on hand.

"Whatever you do, little brother of mine, you’ll never succeed the throne" he laughed softly, then his hands grab the quill on his table as he scribbled something, after writing, he drop it on the ground. The ground shook lightly, then a black shadowy hand emerged as it grabbed the letter, another hand emerged, it’s palms stretched open.

"Here" the young man then flipped an essence stone, it was violent in color. The ground shifted slightly, before it completely vanished.

"Should I wrote my younger brother a letter? " he echoed, then he nodded slightly and grabbed another parchment.

After writing, he stood up, his white lined shirt was unbuttoned at the top, an expensive coat hung loosely on his shoulders. His steps halted in front of a massive frame, a portrait depicting four peoples, the emperor, the empress and their two children.

"I’ll wait a little more, then this empire will be mine" he extended his hands, then a glass flew out from the table, and a wine bottle followed. The sound of liquid pouring echoed loudly across the grandiose room.

"Cheers for the birth of a New Empire" he raised his hands, his fingers twirling graciously at the glass’ handle.

Then a knock echoed outside as a voice resounded.

"Your Highness Allistair the First Prince, the meeting you’ve prepared is now ready"
