The guard leading the way gave a whistle that cut through the valley, starting a flock of birds, and even the beasts drinking by the river stopped and looked toward them in unison.

After waiting for a while, there was no response from the valley. The guard’s face changed, and he turned to Wang Yongzhu: "Madam, normally Qin Laowu, who stayed behind to guard here, would have come out from the cave after hearing my whistle, but there’s no sign of him. Could something have happened?" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Hearing this, the others immediately became alert and touched the sabers at their waists.

Wang Yongzhu glanced around the valley and, after listening to the guard, said, "Let’s go down and take a look—" and was about to step down the mountain.

The guards hurried to stop Wang Yongzhu: "Madam, the situation down there is unusual, and combined with Qin Laowu’s lack of response, something might have gone wrong. Perhaps you should stay here while we go and check it out first."

Wang Yongzhu waved her hand: "No need for that; I’ll go down with you all. It will be good to have someone look after each other."

After all, Wang Yongzhu’s skills would far surpass these guards when truly put to the test and wouldn’t hold them back. If any dangers arose, she could even help them out.

The guards looked at each other, knowing that this Madam, who appeared gentle, was resolute once she made up her mind, leaving them no choice but to gather their spirits and protect Wang Yongzhu at the center while heading into the valley.

Once past the halfway point of the mountain, without obstacles of snow, the mountain path became much easier.

But upon reaching the valley, the snowmelt mixed with mud, making the road muddy and hard to traverse.

The small animals lingering near the river were unafraid of people and curiously stood not far away, watching these outsiders who entered the valley.

The group followed the river and arrived at the dark river. Once closer, they discovered that where this river flowed from the mountain’s belly, the ice melted at a speed visible to the naked eye.

The earlier guard leading the way navigated effortlessly to the cave entrance, a cave about two people’s height but very wide, with a steady stream of river water flowing slowly from it.

Inside, it was pitch black, so quiet that you couldn’t even hear the sound of water flowing, matching the mountain as if a behemoth had opened its bloodthirsty maw, watching them intently.

Not knowing what was happening inside, everyone organized themselves at the cave entrance and made some torches to light the way into the cave.

After a brief rest, the previous guard led the way again, and everybody raised their torches and silently followed in single file.

Once inside, everything went dark, but fortunately, they had torches, allowing them to barely see their surroundings.

The cave was rugged and very damp, with the ground also slippery, making an unwary step a potential slip into the sharp rocks nearby.

Therefore, no one dared let their guard down; they were very attentive to their steps, proceeding one step at a time.

The further they walked into the cave, the more they felt an indescribable damp warmth. The ground was initially moist, but now, everywhere was condensed with countless droplets of water, and the mountain walls above likely too, with droplets falling from time to time.

The drops hit the torches with a sizzle, but fortunately, the torches were coated with special oil that wouldn’t be extinguished by such a tiny drizzle.

After walking quietly for a while, someone finally couldn’t help but speak: "What a lousy cave, why is it so damp? Hu Amao, are we there yet? How come it’s taking so long?"

The guard leading at the front gave a wry smile: "Almost there, just a bit further. It’s mainly because today’s path is so wet and slippery that we don’t dare to hurry. Last time we came, the cave was quite dry!"

At these words, everyone fell silent again.

Wang Yongzhu, holding up a torch, was inspecting the surroundings of the mountain belly, paying no mind to the guards’ conversation.

Walking this path, with her extraordinary eyesight, she could tell that this mountain seemed to have its belly hollowed out; from outside the entrance was inconspicuous, but inside, it turned out to be vast.

The cave was eerily silent, the underground river flowing silently, with no other noises to be heard.

Logically, if it was so damp and warm inside the mountain’s belly, it should attract many moisture-loving insects, snakes, and ants.

But since the beginning, everyone was apprehensive, fearing stepping unknowingly on some poisonous creature. In these deep mountains, a bite could be fatal.

However, despite the passage of time, no poisonous insects or ants appeared, or rather, in this cave, aside from their group, there was no trace of any living beings.

They gingerly approached the river, raising their torches to examine the water, which was deep and dark, making it hard to determine anything.

One guard dared to put his hand in the river for a moment and then said, "Madam, the water temperature is slightly higher than the last few days."

Upon hearing this, Wang Yongzhu squatted by the river and tentatively put her finger into the water.

This being an underground river, its temperature should remain constant year-round, with not much change. Compared to the outside snowmelt, these waters are naturally warmer, though not remarkably so.

Though silently and insensibly, as one places their hand in the river, the flow direction is detectable, and the water from upstream seemed to be a tiny bit warmer.

Moreover, whether due to illusion or not, she felt a faint tingling sensation at her fingertips when submerged in the water, akin to a small fish gently nibbling at her fingers.

Yet upon looking closely, the water was clear, and there was nothing around her fingers.

When she concentrated again on that tingling, it felt like a mild electric current stimulating her skin.

Wang Yongzhu’s eyes lit up; could the water be electrified? But that doesn’t make sense with this not being modern times, where there might be an electrical room or high-voltage lines nearby. Gosh, if it were high-voltage lines, just putting your hand in the water or entering the cave could be fatal.

So, what was it that could make the water electrified? This valley indeed was filled with mysteries.

If the outer valley was like this, what about inside? How is any of this related to Qi Le? She couldn’t have built a small power station in the valley, could she? What an absurd thought! In this era, even if Qi Le generated power, what would it accomplish? Powering for love? Catching fish by electrocution?

Wang Yongzhu felt as if she couldn’t see things clearly anymore.

Then, suddenly, a familiar voice echoed in her mind, a normally steady and unfluctuating voice, now seemed to exhale a sigh of relief: "Splendid, finally got in touch with you, Madam! What have you encountered recently? Or where have you been off to again? How come the contact with the Alliance was lost? Where are you now, Madam? Are there any safety concerns? Do you need the Alliance’s assistance?"

It was the voice of the familiar Chen Xing.
