The Demon Emperor was Saint Emperor
Chapter 214: Negotiations
After capturing the Sloth Demon King who attempted to shirk their duties, the four Great Demon Kings sat around a table.
Lynn noticed their expressions had become serious, even the big loli was no exception, so he immediately focused his attention.
"From late yesterday until early this morning, the power transfer in the Lust Demon Kingdom was very unsmooth, though they don’t seem to care much about wealth; even before I left, they had already prepared treasures from over a hundred warehouses for tribute."
After everyone took their seats, Phantom rested her hand on the table and was the first to speak with a solemn expression.
The Lust Demon Kingdom, where she was situated, should have been the easiest to handle. After all, most of its citizens and even powerful figures were deeply obsessed with lust and weren’t particularly crazed over wealth and power. However, in practice, she encountered significant obstacles. Of the twenty-five legions in the Lust Demon Kingdom, fewer than ten legion commanders were willing to hand over military power, including three legion commanders who were already on her side.
"The situation on my side is similar to Phantom’s. They’re willing to offer wealth, but unwilling to relinquish power, especially regarding the military. Out of thirty-two legions, only a paltry five legion commanders are willing to surrender authority."
Furious Demon King Sara was so annoyed when she spoke that she wanted to slam the table, but upon seeing Hill sitting there, she ultimately restrained herself.
The other kingdoms, such as the Envy Demon Kingdom, Gluttony Demon Kingdom, and Sloth Demon Kingdom, all faced roughly similar situations; political and military power was hard to take over, but they were willing to give up wealth.
The remaining two Demon Kingdoms, however, were slightly different. The Proud Demon Kingdom’s powerful figures only offered up sparse amounts of wealth, and as for power, they held onto it firmly, refusing to relinquish any part, embodying stubbornness.
The Greed Demon Kingdom was even worse; they were unwilling to offer even a sparse amount of wealth, and everyone took on the appearance of misers. They clung tightly to various forms of power as well, seemingly aware that once they lost control over authority, wealth could no longer be safeguarded.
"For now, let’s continue observing. Since I’ve given a deadline, we must keep our word. Let’s set tomorrow as the final deadline. After the deadline, anyone who refuses to relinquish power or wealth will be completely eradicated without exception!"
Listening to the reports from the four Great Demon Kings and the faint snores of one, Lynn lightly tapped his fingers on the table, while urging them to remain calm.
This lack of progress was anticipated. After all, who would willingly give up immense wealth and forsake the power in their hands?
The ultimate goal of these Seven Great Demon Kings was likely to hold ultimate authority over the entire Demon Realm, and to win the battle of faith for the Guardian Demon God, for which they were willing to pay any price.
Lynn’s goal, on the other hand, was the stability of both realms, for which he could assist the Seven Great Demon Kings in achieving their aim.
The key to cooperation between them was the apparent discrepancy in their goals, yet their methods seemed extraordinarily aligned.
Because there was a mutual aim — to "eliminate dissidents," to cripple and destroy the clans of the Destruction Demon God.
The current situation was actually favorable, at least providing them with a reason to physically eliminate those who defied the emperor’s order, clearing them away.
Of course, this was ideal for Lynn, but for the Seven Great Demon Kings, it would be better to make these members of the Demon Race compliant.
After all, dead demons cannot change their beliefs and cannot provide faith to the great Guardian Demon God. If the slaughter goes too far, then the new faith gained by the Guardian Demon God will be minimal. This battle of faith might be won, but with such a nearly complete extermination, their harvest is extremely small.
No matter what, most demons in the current Demon Realm are members of the Abyssal Demon and Abyssal Race; they are not inherent vassals of anyone and are mostly shallow believers of the great Destruction Demon God. The true diehard followers of the great Destruction Demon God are the Purgatory Demon and Yellow Springs Demon races.
For the Purgatory Demon and Yellow Springs Demon races, slaughter is certainly the main approach, while persuasion is secondary. However, for the Abyssal Demon, who are not so heavily inclined, incorporating them would naturally be the best option if possible.
"Will this lead to excessive slaughter? After all, the compliant demons might not even reach fifteen percent."
When Phantom heard Lynn’s words, her expression became somewhat rigid. She felt that killing one as a warning to others was more suitable. Given the nature of many members of the Demon Race, as long as they were killed until blood flowed like a river, they would realize their mistakes and correct them. It was not impossible for them to switch allegiance to the great Guardian Demon God.
"Can I take back what I said earlier? I declared death without mercy, and if many are still able to survive, what remains of my authority as Emperor of Demons?"
Lynn heavily tapped the table, causing the sleepy Sloth Demon King to furrow her brows in her dreams, then nudge Lynn’s hand with her head, as if indicating not to tap excessively.
"However, based on the current progress estimate, it’s highly likely that around seventy percent of the Demon Race will exhibit varying levels of resistance. Do we intend to eliminate seventy percent of our kind?"
Envious Demon King Aya interjected at this moment, and her estimations were still on the optimistic side. In reality, it’s likely that more than seventy percent of the Demon Race would exhibit minor disturbances. She was also worried about excessive slaughter, leading to minimal gain for their side.
However, Lynn was correct in stating his position as Emperor of Demons had just been established. If his first command watered down, it would undoubtedly deal a major blow to his authority, which they were unwilling to see.
Furthermore, they understood that when Lynn declared death without mercy, it was necessary, because if those guys were given room to maneuver, today’s situation wouldn’t be as it is now; instead, one hundred percent of the Demon Race’s powerful figures would choose to resist or observe, and almost none would actively surrender.
"That wouldn’t be the case. We’re only targeting the Demon Race’s strong, those who are at least level 500. We’re not killing your civilians, and it’s unlikely that we’d eliminate seventy percent of your kind. I think even seven percent would be a stretch."
Envious Demon King’s words seemed somewhat exaggerated to Lynn’s ears. Although the Miracle World and the Demon Race have a deep-seated hatred like the sea, he didn’t intend to eradicate their race immediately. It was more about cutting down the leading ones first.
"Indeed, I think Emperor of Demons’ intentions are right. It’s beneficial to eradicate those turncoats completely, saving us from endless troubles."
Furious Demon King Sara was also straightforward; she hated dealing with tedious matters. What couldn’t be solved with fists? If it’s unresolved, it’s only because the fists aren’t big enough. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Exactly, exactly, it’s so troublesome, it affected my sleep last night."
The dreamily mumbling Sloth Demon King Hill also muttered a few words, expressing agreement with Lynn and the Furious Demon King. She was the least willing to handle affairs.
Who cares about them, it’s either surrender or not; surrender and live, refuse and die, just don’t interfere with important matters like sleep.
