The game has become a real alternate world
Chapter 1171 - 809: Futures
The massive port of Candlelight City gradually receded and shrank in the view, eventually becoming a blurry silhouette on the horizon.
Reflecting on the past, Candlelight City was once just a small outpost in the forest.
And now, this outpost expanded into a giant within just over a decade.
Originally, it took one to two days to travel from the gathering point to the coast, but now it has become part of the city.
However, this history seems to exist only in the conversations of the oldest Night Watchers and in history for these young Night Watchers.
To them, it seems like Candlelight City has always been this way.
Adam, Eva, and others leaned on the metal railing of the ship, feeling the steady and powerful rhythm of the Night Watchers’ latest "Rock-Class" transport ship cutting through the deep blue waves below.
One could truly feel its greatness only when it docked at the port.
The pitch-black metal hull was covered with rugged and practical heavy armor plates, enormous sail-like magic energy flow structures stood tall, and magic-powered giant cannons were installed on the deck.
Compared to this, the merchant ships often seen at the port looked like toys.
You could even see some merchant ships were still wooden sailing ships, leaving one to wonder if these two ships are really from the same era?
This transport ship is the same model logistics flagship used by the expedition team in opening the new continent.
It’s just not as large.
But the technology is the same.
After all, it’s just to transport these new recruits, not to build something so big, as it would slow down the sailing speed considerably.
"Wow!"
Tokke’s jaw almost dropped to the deck, "This... this is too big! It can fit half of ’House of Children’!"
The ship was too large, the port too crowded, so when they boarded, they went through internal passages toward the base, not seeing the actual size of the ship.
He forcefully slapped the cold deck, "Look at this iron guy, surely more solid than those Uncle Hook bragged about in Iron Hammer Tavern!"
Night Watchers’ shipbuilding had been evolving since the Blood Calamity, far surpassing other forces.
His previously indifferent expression was instantly replaced by shock, turning into admiration for the gigantic machinery.
"Hmph, but it’s merely my temporary moving castle!" Flying Squirrel, suppressing his discomfort from going to sea for the first time, tried hard to put on a commanding air, maintaining his dark presence.
"It will be the grand ride for the ’Shadow Dominator’s’ quest! I can feel the darkness of the deep sea calling!"
Adam glanced at him, somewhat helpless, his slightly pale complexion and trembling fingers somewhat betrayed him.
But he wouldn’t expose him at this moment. Otherwise, Flying Squirrel would be embarrassed and angry, making him even more restless.
Eva, however, excitedly leaned on the railing, letting the strong, salty sea breeze blow through her hair and leopard ears.
"Feels like flying! More thrilling than using wind walking techniques at the training grounds!" Her bright green eyes sparkled as she looked out over the endless sea, "I heard this ship can travel several hundred nautical miles a day? Faster than any ship we’ve been on before."
"Fast indeed," a young man in a deep blue Night Watcher reserve uniform next to them chimed in, his tone somewhat weary.
"But why travel by ship? It’ll take months. I heard from the city’s logistics department that headquarters ’Ring Tower City’ has a super large teleportation array. Why not just go *whizz* and be there?" He voiced the question many new recruits had in their hearts.
Night Watchers’ teleportation arrays had started being deployed worldwide a year or two ago. Though not everywhere, Candlelight City certainly had one, and though not state-of-the-art, it was definitely a large one.
Spending a bit of time to teleport them all would be more than sufficient.
It was at this time that the official Night Watcher instructor responsible for escorting the new recruits—a stocky man with a short beard named Instructor Horn—approached.
He seemed to have overheard the discussion. Although his face showed no expression, a barely noticeable understanding flickered in his eyes as he scanned the lively young recruits.
"Teleportation array?"
Instructor Horn’s voice wasn’t loud, but it clearly overpowered the sea breeze and chatter, carrying the coldness refined on the battlefield.
"Every second of the main teleportation array of Ring Tower City being activated costs enough energy and materials to sustain this ship for three days! More importantly—"
He walked to the ship’s edge, pointing towards the bottomless, vast ocean and the distant unknown ahead, "In these months, it’s not just about traveling. On board, this is the first unfamiliar environment you’ll encounter after leaving home and everything familiar.
"Learn to endure the long and tedious journey, to coexist with peers from different backgrounds in confined, crowded spaces, to adhere strictly to ship regulations and bridge orders. And also..."
He paused, "Before reaching Ring Tower City, the first phase of theoretical courses and practical basic training will begin onboard.
This journey itself is the first lesson in becoming a new Night Watcher recruit."
He certainly wouldn’t mention that a significant reason was indeed the severe strain on Night Watchers’ current transport capacity. Various operations have stretched their carrying capacity thin, and recent meetings reportedly saw intense discussions on this issue.
Later, in various meetings below, there was almost a fight over the scarce transport capacity.
In such circumstances, how could there possibly be so much spare capacity to transport these new recruits?
