The Genius Evolution Store
Chapter 151: Adjudicators
"Boss. Our group was attacked during the transaction. It looks like the police secured the goods." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
A middle-aged man with a scrawny beard frowned. "The police ambushed them?"
"No. It looks like a couple of school kids."
"A couple of school kids?"
"Yeah. The problem is where they come from. Apparently, they’re from Kallarnos University and Grand Magica College. Grand Magica College is the first college in this region, while Kallarnos University is Kallarnos University."
"So, now the police know that our drugs are circulating in this area?"
"Yes, boss. What are we going to do about this?"
The boss fell silent. "It looks like some kids don’t know when they should look away. Let’s teach these kids that there are things they shouldn’t be looking at."
"Got it, boss!"
Once his subordinate had walked away, the boss called someone.
"Why did you call me?"
"There’s a bit of a problem." The boss explained the situation.
"You take care of it yourself. Otherwise, your head will roll on the ground."
"..." The boss frowned before clicking his tongue.
...
Meanwhile, the police chief of Tierna City received a call.
"Yes, Attorney General. We will do our best to handle it." He sighed before hanging up, only to get another call.
"Hello, Chief Reynolds. I’m the assistant of the Minister of Defense. I’m here to tell you that your current ongoing investigation for a special drug case is going to be treated as highly important. You need to put all your best effort into this investigation, or you may lose your job."
The chief was massaging his forehead. He had been receiving calls from multiple high-ranking officials. He could only say that he would do it.
In the end, the chief let out a long sigh and said, "These rich brats. They shouldn’t have taken on a mission if they’re going to cause all this mess..."
...
Grand Magica College.
Auric immediately went back on Thursday and reported to Maya right away. Maya, or more like the Relesha family, moved quickly.
The next day, he received a call from Maya to meet her, but Maya didn’t say anything about the matter.
In her office, a middle-aged man entered with a young woman.
Maya raised her head and recognized the man. "Arnie... it looks like the government is sending its big gun today."
"Long time no see, Maya. It looks like you’ve gotten comfortable staying at a school like this." Arnie smiled. He was wearing a suit with a long coat.
On the other hand, the red-haired woman next to him was wearing a black uniform paired with a skirt. Maya recognized this uniform, as it was similar to one she had worn not long ago.
"Your partner?" Maya asked, glancing at the woman.
"Let me introduce you." Arnie extended his hand to the right. "This is a new adjudicator, and I have to introduce her around."
The woman straightened her back and saluted. "Adjudicator #1L5, Jennifer Askling."
"She is quite good. Apparently, she was the top of her class." Arnie shrugged. "Well, this is Maya Relesha. She is the fastest person to reach the rank of Senior Adjudicator in just one year."
Maya smiled. "Hello. I hope that you can do your best."
"You sure you don’t want to handle this directly? I heard your old man was suggesting that we reinstate you and put you in charge of the investigation."
"Well... it might be fun, but..." Maya smiled. "I think I’m having a bit more fun staying here right now."
Maya had just finished learning the artificial heart method and became the second person to have Grade SS affinity. So, she was still testing a lot of things around.
Besides, she wanted to focus on protecting Auric, so it would be better to stay here.
"Is that so? That’s a shame." Arnie shook his head helplessly. "Well, we’re here to inform you that a new task force has been formed to take care of the investigation. However, we need to know how dangerous this drug is, and you say you can explain it to us."
"Of course." Maya nodded. "Just wait for a moment. He’s about to arrive here."
"He? Who?" Arnie tilted his head in confusion.
Maya checked her phone and sent a message.
A minute later, someone knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Auric opened the door and saw Maya with two other people. The man was powerful. He might even be stronger than Maya. On the other hand, the woman looked quite young, but her strength was already equal to that of the professors here.
Auric was confused at first, but he suddenly saw the briefcase that the woman was carrying. He noticed the energy within it and instinctively took a step back. "I don’t really want to get involved in this."
"You know what we’re going to talk about?" Maya smiled.
"If you’re going to ask me to analyze the drug, then I should leave. The less I know, the safer I am. Besides, I don’t really want trouble."
"Now, now. That’s interesting. How do you know that we’re going to talk about drugs?" Arnie raised his eyebrows.
"Teacher, are you really going to go through with this?" Auric smiled wryly.
"Teacher? Ah, I see... staying here is more interesting, eh?" Arnie glanced at Maya, thinking that Auric was the reason she stayed here instead of taking the mission.
Maya shrugged. "Anyway, you’re already involved, Auric. Whether you like it or not, they’re going to come after you. So, rather than getting targeted while knowing less, you should just work on it and stop them from targeting you."
Lindwurm added, "She’s not wrong, you know. You will be targeted regardless of whether you help or not. So, why not help them so that these big guys can put even more pressure on the criminals? This way, they have to focus on them rather than you."
Auric couldn’t really deny what they were saying. He sighed and entered the room. "Okay."
"This is my student, Auric Elfe." Maya introduced him.
"Well, rather than his name, I’m more interested in how he’s able to figure out that we’re going to talk about the drug." Arnie raised his finger.
Auric sighed. "Isn’t it obvious? One day after I reported the matter to you, two people I had never seen suddenly visited you. And there was no reason for you to ask me to come here unless you wanted me to do something. That must have something to do with the briefcase she is currently carrying. So, what kind of thing needs me here other than the drugs?"
"Hehe. This kid has a sharp mind." Arnie smiled.
"Arnie!" Maya’s gaze turned cold.
"Oops." Arnie smiled while raising both arms. "So, you know your way around drugs? Isn’t it suspicious? You don’t seem to be someone from a bad neighborhood, but you know about drugs?"
"He’s an evolution master. Get on with it. If you don’t want to talk about drugs, then I’m going to ask him to leave." Maya crossed her arms.
"Fine, fine." Arnie extended his hand. "It’s nice to meet you. I’m Adjudicator #F4, but people love to call me Arnie. This is my partner, Adjudicator #1L5, but just call her Jennifer."
Auric nodded and shook his hand carefully.
Maya walked to the couch and said, "Anyway, let’s not waste time. As you already know, make sure that this conversation remains a secret."
"Fine." Arnie sat down and waved his hand. "Jennifer. How about you show him the drug? I would like to see what this young man can tell us."
Jennifer was a bit skeptical and suspicious. There was no way a young man like him could know anything about this. In the end, he’s still a student.
Still, she didn’t disobey the order. She put the briefcase on the table and opened it. "This is the drug."
There were two vials inside. The first vial contained a liquid with water and wind elements in it. Meanwhile, the liquid in the second vial had earth and lightning elements.
The biggest problem would be how the energy was flowing within the liquid.
"So, what do you think?" Arnie asked.
"How much should I tell them?" Auric asked Maya.
"Just tell them everything you know." Maya shrugged. She wanted him to tell everything because this would make them realize the danger.
However, she might not realize how much Auric could tell from a single drug.
"Okay. How about that treatment?"
"Sure. If it can provide important information." Maya nodded.
Auric took a deep breath before saying, "When I first treated someone who was afflicted by this poison, he possessed the earth element, while the poison contained the wind and fire elements.
"This is not the same as the two vials you brought. The earth element is affected by the wind and the plant elements.
"In this scenario, when the poison resides in your body, it only locks your chance to evolve. It won’t harm your body. For example, if you activate your earth element, only the wind element will be triggered. Meanwhile, the fire element remains dormant.
"As a result, the poison will never be fully activated or harm your body. Only when you treat this poison will it be activated. That’s why in this scenario, you can still use your power, but it will lock you from evolution.
"Even if you manage to reach a perfect 100%, the wind element will be activated, and the earth element will flare up, causing it to go beyond 100%. If there is a plant element evolution master, the fire element will get activated. Now, two elements within the poison are activated, meaning the poison will activate as well. Fatal."
Arnie looked down, contemplating. A poison that could stop someone from evolving was definitely vicious. The fact that it contained two elements made it hard to treat.
It was amazing that Auric could actually treat such a thing.
Arnie pointed to the poison in the briefcase. "How about these?"
"In this vial, the poison contains the wind and water elements. In other words, its ultimate purpose is to target a person with a lightning element. Like the previous poison, it stops them from evolving.
"However, this poison is much more vicious than the previous one. If someone with a lightning element gets hit, not only will they be unable to evolve again, but they will also activate the poison every time they use their energy."
"How did they hurt the people? I mean, what do you mean by the poison getting activated?" Arnie frowned.
"The energy within the poison will burst. In the first scenario, only one element is feeding your element, which doesn’t cause an eruption. It only causes an eruption if there’s a plant element within the system.
"Meanwhile, this poison doesn’t even need the lightning element to get activated. It is more unstable than the previous case. As a result, if you just insert your energy into it, the energy within the poison will burst. It will torture you quite a bit.
"That’s only for people with elements other than the lightning element. If someone with a lightning element gets hit by this poison, the pain they will have to endure is unimaginable.
"However, the real threat to this poison is not about how vicious it is, but how hard it is to treat this poison."
Arnie couldn’t deny this statement. It was true that not many people could treat a poison with two elements at the same time.
"How about this one?" Arnie pointed at the second vial.
"It’s the same. However, the target is someone with an earth element."
Arnie leaned back and crossed his arms. He finally understood how bad the poison could be. "Is this poison effective against people with great strength?"
"Looking at the energy within it, it’s not. The best they can do is affect people with juvenile-form avatars. However, there’s no telling what will happen in the future."
Maya raised one finger. "Or there is a possibility that the poison is aimed at the younger generation. If you just prevent so many talented students from evolving, the country won’t be able to progress."
"!!!"
