Chapter 19: How It All Began

Percy had been prepared to just enjoy simple and quiet days in the library without any issues, but for some reason, it seemed problems couldn’t stay away from him. This case was the first time in close to ten years that Percy would get involved in something regarding the humans and demihumans again, and Percy couldn’t help but feel annoyed by this situation.

’Even after ten years, they are still killing each other pointlessly.’

Percy could tell that there was a high chance that these murders had been orchestrated by a demihuman. There were far too many human deaths, and most of the people who were possessed into killing the humans were demihumans, so the chances of it being organized by a demihuman were very high. It irritated Percy that all the work he had done in the past war to try and make the humans and demihumans see eye to eye hadn’t really made that much of a difference. This entire situation reminded Percy far too much of how things had been on Earth.

’If I knew things would be this annoying, I should’ve asked for even more blessings.’

Twenty years ago, at the height of the demihuman war, Percy had been transported to this world by a higher being that called itself a Celestial. Percy’s mission back then was to bring back balance to the world and ensure that neither the humans nor the demihumans were eradicated in the war, and in order to do that, Percy had been given many blessings to make him extremely powerful!

There were close to a hundred blessings given to him before he was reborn, but there were only three that really stood out to Percy:

[Perfect Comprehension: The ability to understand all forms of magic at a glance.]

[Loved By Magic: The ability to absorb mana freely from the environment.]

[Supreme Genesis: The ability to cast all forms of magic without restraint.]

With just these blessings, Percy rose to become the most powerful mage in this world. And after being reborn, Percy honored his deal with the Celestial and worked towards bringing the humans and demihumans together. To do that, Percy first had to make sure that both the humans and demihumans were on equal standing. That was why Percy joined hands with the humans and pushed back against the demihumans for a while before eventually forging the peace treaty! But even after all of that, it was obvious that there were people who were working in the shadows to destroy the peace, and Percy hated that!

Percy didn’t want to deal with another war, but at the same time, he wasn’t interested in removing himself from society again. So the best course of action for him now was to find whoever was responsible for causing these problems and killing them all. All the dark organisations and the serial killers! Percy would kill them all just to preserve this peace!

Ka-Cha!

"Hey, baby. Are you awake?"

A voice came from the side, and Percy turned to see Rita coming through the door. Rita was holding a tray with two drinks in her hand, and she smiled when she saw Percy sitting at his table. It was already midnight, and the library had closed a long time ago, but rather than going to sleep, Percy was still here working on his runes. This was one of the things that both worried and impressed Rita about Percy! No matter how powerful he was, he was always trying to create more ways to increase his strength!

"You should take a break. You’ve been moving around all day."

Rita put the tray of drinks on the table, and she moved to give Percy a soft kiss. Percy leaned back in his chair and tangled his hand into Rita’s hair, and Rita laughed when Percy suddenly reached around her waist and pulled her down to sit on his lap. Rita smiled down at Percy, and she ran her hand over his cheek kindly before she asked him if everything was okay.

"You look like you’ve been thinking a lot. Is it about the girl that died?"

Percy chuckled softly when he heard Rita say this, and he realised he shouldn’t even be surprised. Rita could always see right through him, and he had learned a long time ago that it was pointless to try and hide anything from her. Percy massaged Rita’s thigh softly and looked up at the ceiling as he asked.

"Do you remember how we met?"

Rita’s face brightened as her mind travelled back to that time. The two lovers had first met five years after Percy came to this world. Back then, Percy had only just started learning how to travel between worlds, and he was experimenting with his ability to open the Dimensional Doors that allowed him to move across worlds. Percy made a mistake with one of his Dimensional Jumps, and he landed on an eerie world called Vacina that was filled with demihuman vampires. At this time, Vacina’s king had died, and the world had been engrossed in a bloody war between three factions who were all trying to claim the throne and appoint their candidate as the new king. Rita had been the daughter of the leader of one of the factions, and Rita had ended up as a prisoner of an enemy faction trying to make her father surrender.

In truth, their entire meeting had been entirely up to fate. Percy had arrived at the main headquarters of the enemy faction entirely by accident, and when they attacked him, Percy had no choice but to retaliate. That day, Percy ended up killing a significant number of the enemy faction, and it was only after he made his way deeper into the dungeons that he found the malnourished and dirty Rita sitting in one of the prison cells.

Percy’s body had been covered in blood, and there was an aura of power surrounding him in that moment that made him look like the devil himself. But the only thing Rita could remember was how radiant he looked in her eyes! Percy seemed like an Angel sent to her from heaven, and when Percy put his hand out and asked her to come with him, there was no way Rita could refuse. That was more than fifteen years ago now, and Rita cherished that memory in her mind like it was precious gold!

Rita wrapped a hand around Percy’s neck and told him that she remembered that day very well, and Percy said:

"Why were those people willing to sacrifice their lives fighting for something so meaningless? Their deaths didn’t matter at all. The three factions at Vacina could have come to an agreement and elected a leader together. But they preferred to kill each other for no reason. I see the exact same thing in the humans and demihumans. Their wars are so pointless. They could come together and become something more, but they just can’t get along."

Rita let out a calm sigh when she heard this. Percy was right about how meaningless the wars around most worlds were. People were willing to lay down their lives and die for things that don’t matter, and the people they fought for wouldn’t even care about them once they were gone. But to those people, putting their lives on the line like that was their own way of validating their existence!

"We can’t understand why these people do what they do. Some people just want to watch the world burn, and there is nothing we can do about it. Just remember that it’s not your job to save everyone. You’ve already done the best you can."

Percy hummed, but he was still staring at the ceiling with a faraway look in his eyes. Rita eyed Percy’s perfect jawline and the muscles jumping in his neck, and she smiled and leaned into him even more. Rita pressed her legs together, and she placed a soft kiss on Percy’s jaw. Percy blinked in surprise, and he looked down at the woman in his lap! Rita pulled back slightly with a blush on her face, and Percy felt a smile growing on his lips when he saw the desire in her eyes! This fucking pervert!
