The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 801 - Because I Want To Pick It Up
Ten, nine, eight... Wei En counted silently. If Han Wu stayed within ten meters for the full ten seconds, she would win.
Han Wu turned to her, his gaze sharp and authoritative. “Senior Wei En. I don’t know why you’re in my tent. I’m giving you three seconds to get out, and I’ll pretend I never saw you.”
Wei En nearly lost her composure. She lay completely bare before him, face up. Even the most clearheaded man would be distracted by her figure for at least a few seconds. She was starting to question whether Han Wu was actually a man.
“Three, two, one.“ Han Wu finished the countdown without hesitation.
Wei En still made no move to leave, so he simply unleashed his aura and blew the entire tent off the ground. The force sent Wei En and the Magic Sealing Wave hidden beneath her flying a considerable distance away.
Han Wu sighed. Peace at last.
Wei En tumbled through the air and barely managed to steady herself before landing safely. She was uninjured, but the shock settled in quickly. They were both Major Gods, yet Han Wu’s aura alone had sent her flying without effort.
Then anger followed. Han Wu had completely ignored her figure and look. Someone like that didn’t deserve such power!
She quickly pulled a set of clothes from her divine realm and put them on, then searched the area for the Magic Sealing Wave. It had separated from her during the blast, but she remembered the direction it had fallen.
Following that direction, she found Jia Gui. He was standing completely still, eyes glazed and mouth hanging open, like an old dog at the end of its days. At his feet lay what she was looking for.
Wei En moved to pick it up. The moment her fingers touched it, she felt nothing inside. No energy at all. It had already activated. She looked at the stupefied Jia Gui and nearly lost her mind. That priceless weapon had triggered on him!
Jia Gui slowly came back to his senses, his gaze settling on Wei En and the Magic Sealing Wave. Her body tensed as she considered silencing him.
“I’d advise you not to pick that up,” Jia Gui said.
Wei En straightened slowly, keeping her eyes on his watchful expression, and did not reach for the device. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
“Back up even more,” Jia Gui continued.
Wei En obeyed, confused. From his perfectly calm face, she couldn’t tell whether he had been affected. Once she put some distance between herself and the Magic Sealing Wave, Jia Gui nodded, stepped forward, picked it up, and tucked it into his jacket with a satisfied look.
Wei En stared. “Hero Jia, why didn’t you let me pick it up?”
“Because I wanted to pick it up. I spotted it first. First come, first served,” Jia Gui replied slyly.
Wei En hesitated, then tested him. “Hero Jia, don’t you feel anything off about your body?”
Jia Gui paused. He rolled his ankles, flashed a wide grin, and said cheerfully, “I found a treasure. Why would anything be off? I feel great.”
“You don’t notice anything unusual about your abilities?” Wei En pressed.
The reminder turned Jia Gui’s expression serious. He tried to activate his abilities and found that every one of them was sealed. Even his Divine Aspects and Divine Authority were gone.
“What’s going on? I can’t use any of my abilities, Aspects, or Authority!” Jia Gui exclaimed.
A wave of helplessness washed over Wei En. The Magic Sealing Wave had been wasted on Jia Gui. There was nothing left to do but to cut her losses.
With Jia Gui’s abilities, Aspects, and Authority sealed, she considered finishing him off on the spot. Even without them, he was still a World life form. Killing him would at least weaken the Wisdom Faction’s forces.
Just as Wei En was about to act, Jia Gui let out a long sigh and waved her off. “Never mind. I barely use my abilities, Aspects, or Authority anyway. They won’t affect my patrols at all.”
Then he looked at her with a puzzled expression. “Weren’t you in Han Wu’s tent? What are you doing out here? Did you get lost? Let me take you back.”
Wei En processed his words. He never uses his abilities, Aspects, or Authority in combat. His strength is completely unaffected?!
She wasn’t a World life form and had no quick way to gauge whether she could defeat him. She was also worried that being escorted back would expose her identity to Han Wu.
Caught between two bad options, Wei En made her decision. She opened a divine realm gate and left the battlefield.
Jia Gui watched her sudden departure and seemed to understand.
“That young lady got shy. But she really is something. Han Wu’s a lucky one,” he muttered, then resumed his patrol.
That same evening, news broke that Wei En had defected from the Wisdom Faction.
Jia Gui was brought before the Wisdom God King, who examined him with his Mind Eye. It revealed that what had happened to him was a result of the Magic Sealing Wave.
Jia Gui was baffled at first. After Commerce explained everything, it all clicked into place, and shame weighed on him. After all, he had led an enemy agent right into the heart of their base.
Even so, Xu Hai and Han Wu didn’t hold it against him. Jia Gui had made a mistake, but the outcome was favorable.
The Slaughter Faction had wasted the Magic Sealing Wave on Jia Gui. In the process, the Wisdom Faction had exposed a spy and gained a clear warning of the lengths their enemy would go to. The Slaughter Faction had come away with nothing but losses.
Even so, a treasure as significant as the Magic Sealing Wave was not necessarily unique. Xu Hai couldn’t rule out the possibility that the Slaughter Faction possessed another. This time, it struck Jia Gui. Next time, they could target Han Wu or Xu Hai. If that happened, the Wisdom Faction could lose half of what was holding it together.
Since the Slaughter Faction had done it once, they would try again. Xu Hai had to prepare for that. That very day, he searched through the tens of billions of texts from various civilizations archived in his mind and found a method to counter the Magic Sealing Wave. It required sourcing something from the Sealed Civilization, which was some distance away from the Divine Civilization.
Xu Hai decided to send Han Wu, but the latter was concerned. “Sir, if I leave, the Slaughter Faction may launch a heavy push. I’m worried the Wisdom Faction won’t hold.”
Xu Hai patted his shoulder and smiled. “Your concern for the Wisdom Faction is commendable. But aren’t you underestimating your mentor and everyone else in this faction?
“You’re exceptional, but we’re not pushovers either. Go and come back. By the time you return from the Sealed Civilization, this divine war may have already been won.
“One more thing. To be safe, leave an avatar behind. Have it appear along the front line every few days. It should confuse the Slaughter Faction.”
After hearing this, Han Wu felt considerably calmer. “I’ll do as you say, Sir. I’ll find a way to counter the Magic Sealing Wave as quickly as possible.”
