The Shining Star Above The Heaven
Chapter 1088: Done
Aldrian’s avatar looked at the middle-aged man before him, the patriarch of the Asefan family. His body would not stop trembling, and anxiety was clear on his face despite being a middle pseudo immortal stage cultivator. Such a reaction was truly unbefitting of someone at his level.
The man tried to show courage by meeting the avatar’s gaze, but the contrast between his eyes and his shaking body only made him look somewhat pitiful.
The avatar could clearly sense the man’s fear.
Silence filled the room for a moment before the avatar finally opening his mouth.
"To be honest, I am quite surprised that you made that move. I must admit that you are quite clever. However, do you think that kind of trick could make me stop killing you? Why should I stop?"
Patriarch Asefan gritted his teeth and lowered his head.
"Please have mercy on me. I know that I involved myself in an outrageous plan to kill a great figure like Aldrian the Great, but I did not have much choice. Some of them pushed me to join them. If I refused, I might lose my connections with them."
"As a merchant family, losing connections and trust is something fatal, so I had little choice."
"And I cannot die now. If I die, my family will fall into decline because my successor is not ready yet. I have three sons and two daughters, but none of them are prepared to take my place."
He took out a picture of his family and raised it toward the avatar with trembling hands.
"Please have mercy on me. I promise that I will compensate Aldrian the Great for my part in trying to harm him."
He clasped his hands together while holding the picture.
"Please have mercy on me... please."
His eyes started to water as he slowly kowtowed.
"I will never dare to do anything against Aldrian the Great in the future. Please give me one more chance."
"Please have mercy on me."
The avatar who saw him like this could not help but feel a sense of pity. He could sense how desperate this man was at this moment. The desperation to keep living had pushed him to lower himself like this, showing behavior that was unbefitting of a pseudo immortal stage cultivator.
He no longer cared about his status or his cultivation. He did not care about his pride or how others might see him.
He only wanted to live.
Patriarch Asefan waited for the avatar to say something. His eyes were already shedding tears. The waiting was tormenting him, and his body was so tense that it looked almost rigid. He knew that if this assassin decided to kill him, then everything would end here.
He waited for more than ten seconds, yet he still did not receive any answer. Even so, he did not move and continued kowtowing.
Another ten seconds passed. Still no answer.
A minute passed, and he still did not hear anything.
Only after two minutes passed did he finally dare to lift his head and look toward the figure that he thought was still standing in front of him.
However, he froze when he saw that the figure had already disappeared. He could not sense anything at all. His tearful eyes looked around, but he could not find the figure anywhere.
After making sure that the figure was gone and believing that he had already left, tears finally fell from his eyes. He immediately kowtowed toward the empty space.
"Thank you, sir. Thank you for giving me a chance. Thank you."
His voice trembled.
Outside the mansion, where the avatar could still see the patriarch, he watched him for a moment before finally disappearing.
-----------------------------
On the next day, another piece of news spread. Like before, the Night Reaper had taken the lives of several nobles. However, the same news did not come from the Asefan family.
Did the Night Reaper truly forgive the patriarch of the Asefan family, or had his time simply not come yet?
People waited to see what kind of fate Patriarch Asefan would face. Over the next few days, the Night Reaper continued their routine of killing, but the number of targets gradually decreased until the day finally came when they stopped.
Many wondered if the Night Reaper was finally done.
After several more days without any activity, people slowly began to believe that the Night Reaper had truly finished their killing. This meant that for the first time, they had shown mercy to one of their targets.
This became another heated topic. With this outcome, the patriarch of the Asefan family became the only person who survived from the Night Reaper’s killing list.
Patriarch Asefan soon appeared in public again. He openly expressed his gratitude toward Aldrian the Great for his magnanimity in sparing his life. He also announced that he intended to compensate Aldrian the Great for the wrong he had committed.
While the people of the Iverus World were still discussing the matter of the Night Reaper, an interstellar vessel carrying the avatar’s group had already left that world. They were now approaching the Red Lotus World.
After killing all the targets on the list except the patriarch of the Asefan family, the avatar decided that it was enough and that they could return.
The mission was more or less complete. Most of the targets were dead, and the Underworld’s Feeder had collapsed. However, neither the avatar nor Zayden was entirely certain that they had eliminated every assassin of the Underworld’s Feeder.
With how large the Underworld’s Feeder was as an organization, even the main hideout could not observe every branch’s activities across the many worlds. Some assassins might have been overlooked.
With the news about the purge of assassins and the revelation that the Night Reaper served Aldrian the Great, even if some remnants of the Underworld’s Feeder still existed, they would most likely hide themselves and never show their faces again.
Searching for hidden assassins would be like looking for a needle in a haystack unless Aldrian made the entire world his domain.
On their way back, they planned to stop by the Red Lotus World because Zayden wanted to be dropped there. The Red Lotus World was his home world, and he wanted to see whether his family was still alive.
With his life as the master of the Underworld’s Feeder now over, he wished to return to a normal life with his family.
The vessel finally arrived at the Red Lotus World and stopped in the upper atmosphere. The side hatch opened, and Zayden floated outside before turning back toward the avatar and bowing.
"Thank you for sparing my life and bringing me out of that place. I will never forget the grace you have shown me," he said.
The avatar nodded.
"Like I said, you are now free. I hope you live a better life."
Zayden nodded with a smile. The hatch of the vessel slowly closed again, and the vessel gradually flew away from the Red Lotus World before entering the wormhole that led to the Blue Pearl World.
Zayden continued to smile as he watched the vessel disappear. Only then did he slowly descend toward the world below.
Finally, it was over.
-----------------------------
It did not even take a full day for the avatar to reach the Blue Pearl World. The moment they arrived at the Alfemin family mansion, Patriarch Geodard asked about the Night Reaper.
The news about the Night Reaper had of course already spread to the Blue Pearl World, and it caused quite a sensation. Once again, the name Aldrian the Great rang throughout the world.
He already knew about Aldrian’s plan, so he had expected such an uproar.
He was truly amazed that they had managed to pull it off with a group that could be counted on one hand. The assassinations of leaders from various worlds would surely embed the name Aldrian the Great even deeper in the minds of the people within this star cluster.
Even though the White Ring Star Cluster and the Central Star Cluster were far apart, the name Aldrian the Great would continue to be remembered for a long time. More people would certainly visit the Ancient Blue Gate World.
The avatar and Ao Tianhai did not stay long in the Blue Pearl World because the avatar wanted to return to the Ancient Blue Gate World as soon as possible.
They had already been away from the Ancient Blue Gate World for several months, so it was time to go back.
Patriarch Geodard and Alric did not try to persuade the avatar to stay longer because they understood that he must be busy. On the same day they arrived at the Blue Pearl World, they returned to the Ancient Blue Gate World as Aldrian teleported them back.
------------------------
Aldrian, knowing that the problem in the Aster Empire had been taken care of entirely, could finally focus on his own journey again. One of the things weighing on his mind had finally disappeared.
He had already anticipated the problems that might arise from the White Ring Star Cluster after he humiliated those nobles and after the assassination attempt by the Underworld’s Feeder in the Alfemin family mansion.
Now he no longer needed to think about any trouble coming from the White Ring Star Cluster. After the Night Reaper incident, no one from that place would want to seek trouble with him anymore.
He doubted that anyone would dare seek revenge with his current reputation.
He closed his eyes again and continued cultivating.
But then he suddenly remembered someone.
’I wonder what Ling Xiao is doing at this moment. I imagine he is already wreaking havoc on the battlefield, giving those devils a nightmare,’ he thought with a smile.
Unbeknownst to him, what he imagined was truly happening at that very moment.
