The Smiling Death
Chapter 421: Talking With Senior
Back to Amon.
"Hello? Is it... really Amon?"
A smile formed on his face. The pager was against his ear.
"Yes. It is. I am Amon, Senior Selena. Did you miss me?"
There was silence for a while. A long silence.
Amon waited. But when he didn’t get any reply, he asked again. "Senior? Are you there? Senior?"
"Ah, yes... Amon... oh goddess. You are safe! Where were you for these whole seven months? Do you know how worried I was about you?!" Her voice came from the other side.
Selena spoke in a slightly loud voice, throwing away all her calm composure.
"Last time we got information that you had met Galahad. But then you were taken hostage by demons. We thought you were dead! But... but now you called... you finally came back alive! Where are you currently? Tell me—"
"Senior! Calm down for a second and let me speak as well!"
Amon cut her off.
"...Okay."
"Phew... for now I am at Concord Isle Port. You know that place. I will be leaving this island in the evening. The Duchess of Astron, Elizabeth, was here as well. The ship will reach Marivelle City Port in a few days. After that I will be visiting the capital city... basically your city. If you don’t mind, and if you can find some free time, I hope you will spare some of it for this poor peasant, hehe~" He chuckled at the end, speaking in a teasing tone.
Her voice came from the other side. "Oh... so you are with those people who were found on the island. I did think you might be among them. I was going to check when they arrived in the kingdom. But well, you informed me already... Also, I do have time. I will be waiting for you. Good choice coming here first to meet me. I wanted to meet you anyway. So when you arrive, don’t forget to contact me."
"Yes, Senior. I will do that for sure."
"...I wanted to talk to you more... but I suppose I’ll save it for when we meet."
"Yes, Senior. I will talk to you when we meet again. So, bye~"
"Bye."
Amon ended the call and sighed.
"Alright... should I try contacting the others? Hmm... nah. I’ll meet them directly and give them a surprise."
Amon walked toward the ship that would take him to the Valmoria Kingdom.
---
They were sitting on the huge ship, at a long wooden bench.
The ship had departed the day before. It was now the following morning.
Julian, Steffney, Ethan, Oliver, and Katherine were currently with Amon.
Yes. Katherine, the demon girl. Oliver, the half-werewolf half-human. Steffney, a pure werewolf. Ethan, the beast man.
Amon had been genuinely shocked when he learned that.
Elizabeth had not minded at all and had accepted the demons without hesitation.
Which was truly shocking. He had tried asking her about it, and she had said only one thing. "You will understand once you get back to the kingdom."
He had thought about going to ask Roland instead, but eventually gave up. He figured he would understand it once he returned anyway.
They were all heading toward the Valmoria Kingdom.
All of them were going to settle in the new village. And then, their parents, who were originally from other kingdoms would visit their homelands.
"Already missing Scarlett?" Ethan asked, sitting beside Amon, his beast ears twitching.
That morning, Amon had been getting teased by his friends. He gritted his teeth. He wanted to say no... but he couldn’t, because he really did miss her. She was the person he had spent the most time with over the past month.
Now, without her here, everything felt strangely empty.
"Hey, Ethan, don’t say things like that to him. It’s not kind." Katherine said from beside him, her expression worried.
"Well, he certainly looks sad and dejected. That’s a rare sight." Julian said with a smirk.
"Okay... I’ll admit it. I really miss Scarlett! My Scarlett!" Amon declared.
"Oh man! He’s not even hiding it anymore!" Steffney laughed at his reaction.
"So you two are officially a couple then?" Oliver asked curiously.
"Yes, we are a couple. Hehe~" Suddenly Amon’s expression turned shy. He rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled softly.
And just like that, a few days passed.
---
After a few days, they finally reached Marivelle City.
Everyone stepped off the ship.
"Wow! This is incredible!"
"No way something like this exists!"
"I can’t believe what I’m seeing!"
Amon’s friends made comment after comment as they took in the city before them.
Marivelle City sat along the edge of the sea, its skyline a striking mix of tall stone buildings and wide cobblestone streets that stretched far into the distance.
The port itself was enormous, lined with dozens of ships of all sizes, their sails catching the coastal wind.
The smell of salt and sea blended with the noise of merchants, sailors, and travelers moving through the crowded waterfront.
Colorful market stalls ran along the port road, and further into the city, grand stone structures rose above the rooftops, hinting at the wealth and history the city held. It was loud, alive, and breathtaking.
Some people nearby glanced at the large group of villagers dressed in old, worn clothing.
Beastmen and elves were not uncommon here. But demons were a different matter. Several passersby glanced at the few demons among the group.
But no one said anything.
"It really is beautiful... seeing something like this after so long." Amon said, standing with his friends.
"It’s amazing." Julian’s eyes were filled with excitement.
"But Amon... you’ll be leaving now. We’re really going to miss you." Katherine spoke with a sad tone.
Amon looked at his friends. "I’ve already asked for a large house to be built for me in the village. It will be my village too. So I will come back home for sure. Just give the village a good name."
"Hehe, we will."
He talked with his friends for a little while longer.
Just then, Roland stepped forward.
"It seems you are going on your way, young man." He said in a gentle tone.
"Yes. I’ll be heading off now."
"Take care of yourself. And come visit us soon."
"I will definitely come soon." Amon smiled.
With one last goodbye, he walked away.
After walking a little distance, he turned back to look at them.
His friends, their parents, and the other villagers were all waving at him.
A little apart from the group stood Elizabeth. The mature beauty waved at him as well, a wide smile on her face.
He had exchanged contact details with her during the journey.
Amon chuckled and waved back.
"Now soon it will be time to meet my old friends!" he said to himself, turning forward and stepping further into the city.
