Chapter 1118: Chapter 1118: The Lady Dies in Labor, Major General Paralyzed and Widowed

Richard Shaw whispered his instructions, his expression stern as he patted the shoulders of Eamon Turner and the others. These soldiers were all trained by him, and as he embarked on a mission that could be his last, he said his farewells.

"Major General, let me go in your place. It’s dark, as long as we lure them out, the sniper can definitely take them out." Eamon Turner choked up, "The old lady and the child need you."

"They have three people. Even if the sniper takes out one, there are still two left." Richard Shaw shook his head, speaking with a deep voice, "Follow the plan as I mentioned before. Leave two to provide backup, and the others retreat to the safe zone. That’s an order."

His voice was stern and allowed no resistance.

Richard Shaw finished speaking and turned around without hesitation, revealing himself from his hiding spot, fully exposed to the sniper’s view as he walked toward the warehouse.

"That’s an order, fall back." The captain of the second team firmly pressed Eamon Turner, raspingly saying with restrained anger, "Go, I’ll stay to provide backup for Mrs. Landon."

Eamon Turner’s face was washed with tears, showing a bit of reluctance, as he suddenly thought of something and angrily shouted, "Where’s Cornelius Turner? Wasn’t he supposed to protect Mrs. Landon? Where the hell is he?"

Cornelius Turner was hiding behind a container in the warehouse, minimizing his presence. Luckily, the three terrorists were all focused on the outside, busily filming, not noticing his existence.

Before the attack started, Cornelius Turner sensed something was wrong. The distance from the maternity ward to the critical care area was too far. Mrs. Landon had just undergone surgery, her body was weak, how could she walk such a distance from one building to another? Moreover, the critical care area was not within their main guarded area.

Using his ten years of military instincts, he quickly signaled Griffith Squire, who, along with Uncle Howell and others, were nearby the hospital and making final evacuation preparations. This time, they brought only the most loyal and elite from the Golden Triangle, leaving only Eamon Turner behind to guard the area.

Griffith Squire, upon receiving the signal, swiftly adjusted the evacuation plan, racing against time to provide support, advancing the planned withdrawal scheduled for the next day.

When the attack commenced, Cornelius Turner had already eliminated the most problematic doctor in the team, put on a white coat, and disguised himself as one of the rescue personnel, stealthily making his way to the warehouse.

Fortunately, these individuals were simple-minded and not afraid to die. After taking a hostage, they eagerly began filming videos, unaware of Cornelius Turner’s identity, thinking he had been killed in the skirmish due to his disappearance.

Sweat dripped down his forehead, as he remained motionless in the shadows. Three men: one filming, one holding a bomb, and one armed with a knife ready to execute. He could simultaneously take out two of them, but there was a dead angle between the knife wielder and the bomb holder, making a double kill impossible, creating a stalemate. Any delay could mean they kill Miss Leah immediately.

Cornelius Turner could only wait, wait for Griffith Squire and the team to arrive, or for an opportunity.

He had a specialized sensor on him, which enabled the real-time data transmission of the warehouse’s dynamics for virtual reconstruction. Although the warehouse exit was sealed, he believed Griffith Squire would find a way out.

While waiting, Cornelius closely monitored the actions of the three bandits. Suddenly seeing them appear excited, one untied Leah’s hands and feet, while another set up a sniper rifle through the window, locking on to the outside, he sensed a looming danger.

"Major General, you’re within the enemy sniper’s shooting range. A bandit is at the window, ready for elimination, awaiting orders." The sniper on the helicopter reported after aiming at the bandit at the window.

The sniper hadn’t finished speaking when the enemy shot first, directly hitting Richard Shaw in the calf.

The man’s tall frame swayed slightly but continued forward without hesitation, his eyes deep, peering through the dark night and thick walls toward the warehouse, wanting to tell her not to be afraid, he would save her, even if it meant dying, he wouldn’t leave her alone.

The second, third, fourth shots came in quick succession. The tension became overwhelming. It was a one-sided slaughter. The shots were aimed at his arms and legs to render the renowned young Major General defenseless.

The sniper on the waiting helicopter, along with the two backup personnel, grew silent, gripping their weapons tightly as their bodies became tense as a bowstring. Their eyes turned bloodshot; only the Major General’s command was needed for them to rush in and bring mutual destruction to the terrorists.

Richard Shaw, having taken four bullets, approached the warehouse without faltering, and said in a deep voice, "I’m here, let her go."

The smell of blood began to permeate through the oppressive night air.

Inside the warehouse, there was not the slightest movement. Even with Richard Shaw seriously wounded at the front, they still feared his previous reputation, afraid to act rashly.

With blood gushing out, Richard Shaw couldn’t afford to waste a single second, coolly saying, "Open the door, I’ll come in directly, I’m unarmed, hit four times, no threat to you."

"Okay." Finally, there was a response from the other side.

Richard Shaw felt relieved, as long as he could enter the warehouse, he could rescue Crystal Landon.

The man’s dark brown eyes narrowed, watching a sudden change occur near the window: the sniper was shot dead, causing his face to turn deathly pale.

Several gunshots echoed, followed by a loud explosion. The dark warehouse, engulfed in flames, was razed to the ground by a massive explosion that shook even the helicopter.

The man’s vision blackened, spitting out a mouthful of blood as his internal organs suffered severe shock injuries, leaving him critically wounded.

Crystal Landon. Shortly after passing out, he awoke and struggled to stand, his eyes red as he tried to run toward the destroyed warehouse to find someone, but he collapsed heavily once more.

"Major General." His subordinates rushed over and pinned him down, shouting for a doctor.

Richard Shaw was immobile, having bled too much; being so close to the blast exposed him to its aftereffects, leaving his entire body nearly devoid of any undamaged skin, with his internal organs severely injured. Gazing at the lifeless remains in the firelight, his eyes red, he tiredly closed them, thinking this was for the best. The Shaw Family had wronged the Cox Family in the past; she had always hated him. She went first; he would soon follow. This way, she wouldn’t be angry anymore.

A loud explosion shattered the night’s tranquility, causing the entire Imperial City to tremble. Thick smoke billowed up, merging into the night sky, leaving everyone in the city shocked, unaware of what had transpired.

The events of that night were heavily suppressed, with the truth woven under layers of secrecy. It was only several years later that the elite of the Imperial City began to mention snippets here and there.

When the precious young master of the Shaw Family was born, the Major General’s wife tragically died in childbirth. The youngest and most promising Major General in the Imperial City became gravely injured in a peacekeeping operation, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and widowed, quietly resigning from his position. The once illustrious Shaw line fell silent, but that is a story for another time.
