The Villainess Is My Cute Daughter
Chapter 163: Getting Ready For The North
In Adrian’s eyes, this method was better than the equal distribution groups that didn’t have many people complaining.
The richer people basically paid regular citizens just to walk in and donate their mana to the dungeon door. This expanded the land limit drastically. Then, the rich party leader hired a much smaller, dedicated crew to actually take care of the massive farm.
The merchant got to keep the entire harvest to sell on the open market. And the regular people were completely happy because they got paid instantly without being forced to do any of the actual farm labor.
The party leader walked away with the most amount of money after selling the goods.
But this new feature of the dungeon had a huge impact on the city’s construction projects. A lot of builders actually quit their jobs because they wanted to go farming instead.
But a huge chunk of the workforce stayed.
The smart builders realized they could just join the type 4 parties. They gave their mana to the door once and collected their bronze coins. After that, they did not have to give mana at all unless the party leader wanted to buy more seeds from the system shop.
So they got paid for their mana, and then they just went to work on the construction sites for the rest of the day to earn even more money. And on top of that, they could still use their mana for the next few weeks to farm iron ingots from the Gacha Wheel.
Adrian felt like these guys were the smartest people in the territory. Farming was an incredibly tedious, back breaking job. Building was tedious too, but these workers were already used to it.
But Adrian did not judge anyone. Everyone did what they liked, so he just observed the economy running itself and did not comment on anything.
When the two weeks were finally up, Adrian checked his private dungeon instance.
The cows had given birth.
There were exactly fifteen thousand adult cows and fifteen thousand fresh babies now.
He instructed the system to deliver sperm right back into the adults’ wombs the exact second they recovered from the pregnancy. The meat processing cycle was now officially online.
Adrian left his bedroom and walked straight out to the training grounds.
He looked at the massive group of soldiers standing there.
"I want you guys to make four groups!" Adrian yelled over the noise. "The first group on the far left will be all the sworn knights, regardless of your rank. The second group will be the recruits who joined recently and are making great progress!"
The men started shuffling around to form blocks.
"The third group will be the new recruits who are having trouble making progress!" Adrian instructed. "And the final group on the far right will be the men who joined at the very start but still have not managed to become knights!"
The army split into the four distinct formations.
Adrian walked over to the group on the far right. He stared at the men who had been training and struggling for months without breaking through to the F rank.
"Your bodies do not have the natural ability to absorb or sense mana as well as the others." Adrian told them bluntly. "But this is something you are born with, so this is not your fault. When the world is unfair to us, we must fight back in our own way."
He pointed toward the north.
"I am giving you an opportunity." Adrian announced loudly. "I am going to Marquis Draven’s territory, and we will be fighting real monsters there. Fighting beasts will give you a lot of valuable combat experience."
He looked at their nervous, sweaty faces.
"It is going to be incredibly dangerous." Adrian warned them. "Some of you might die. But if you manage to survive, you will come out of there with far more experience than anyone over here."
He gestured toward the knights standing on the left.
"Which one of you volunteers?" Adrian demanded.
"You guys are in the same situation and I am extending you the same offer." Adrian promised them. "Once we come out of that territory victorious, I am going to give you a special gift that has a very high chance of helping you increase your mana."
A lot of people immediately raised their hands.
"Good. Now step forward and form a completely different line." he said and watched as a few of them walked forward.
After the first few walked out, others caved to the peer pressure and followed them.
But a good chunk of them just kept their heads down and stayed back.
Adrian did not say a single word to them. He just looked at the cowards. He was slightly disappointed that they were not willing to take a risk for power. But he was also not the kind of person who just handed out free gifts.
He had already given them premium knight manuals. If they did not have the natural talent, they had to work three times as hard. He was only going to reward the men who proved they were willing to work harder than the others for it.
He looked at the new volunteer group.
"Burke!" Adrian called out. "Count everyone and give me a number."
Adrian walked over to a wooden bench and sat down while Burke did his job. A few minutes later, the bald captain jogged over and saluted.
"My lord," Burke reported. "A total of two thousand soldiers."
"Okay, good." Adrian nodded.
He stood up and walked over to the elite knights.
"You guys continue with your training." Adrian ordered. "Focus entirely on improving yourselves. That is why I am giving you the time to stay here. We will have more opportunities to get combat experience later. But for now, you guys are the strongest group in my army. The stronger we are, the safer Oresfall is."
He turned to the second group of high-progress trainees.
"You guys must also train hard." Adrian told them. "You clearly have the talent to become knights, so utilize this time to improve."
