Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Grace Sullivan Committed Suicide

"I didn’t poison her," Mae Sullivan murmured. "I resented her, but not enough to poison her to death."

Renee Jennings could tell she didn’t seem to be lying.

But Dodo, the little ant, had said that Mae Sullivan admitted to Connor Kent that she was the one who killed Grace Sullivan.

Renee Jennings said slowly, "You say you didn’t poison Grace Sullivan, so why did you admit to Connor Kent that you killed her?"

Upon hearing this, Mae Sullivan’s eyelashes trembled, and a look of shock filled her eyes. "Is that what Connor Kent said?"

She suddenly started to laugh, but her expression was filled with sorrow. "He has disappointed me beyond belief. My love for him has been completely consumed by his heartlessness."

Renee Jennings and Sawyer exchanged a look, and she asked softly, "So, did Grace Sullivan’s death have anything to do with you?"

"I don’t know." Mae Sullivan lowered her gaze and gave a bitter smile. "She had depression. She hadn’t wanted to live for a long time. She took the sleeping pills herself. By the time I found her, it was already too late."

"Do you have any proof?" Renee Jennings stared at her intently.

Mae Sullivan was silent for a long time before her lips moved slightly. "Grace Sullivan scheduled a video to be sent to my email."

"Can I see it?"

Mae Sullivan took out her phone, found the video, and handed it to Renee Jennings. "Here, watch it."

"Thanks." Renee Jennings took the phone and saw Grace Sullivan playing the piano in a white dress.

Her face was pale and gaunt, her eyes seemingly filled with heavy worries.

The piece ended. Grace Sullivan looked at the camera, a gentle smile touching her lips. "Mae, by the time you see this video, I might already be gone."

"I know you blame me, and I’m so sorry. I absentmindedly did things that made you unhappy."

"..."

"I hope in our next life, we can be real sisters."

"See you in the next life, Mae."

Grace Sullivan waved at the camera.

The video ended. Renee Jennings returned the phone to Mae Sullivan and voiced the question on her mind. "You said Grace Sullivan committed suicide, but why was her body at your house?"

Mae Sullivan explained, "Grace Sullivan was staying with me for those few days. The video was recorded at my house, and she took the sleeping pills at my house, too."

Renee Jennings asked, "Isn’t Connor Kent obsessed with Grace Sullivan? Why would you agree to let her stay at your place?"

"I asked her to come keep me company," Mae Sullivan murmured. "I also wanted to use it to test Grace Sullivan and Connor Kent."

"I see." Renee Jennings nodded. "If you didn’t kill her, why were you so afraid of the police finding out?"

Mae Sullivan lowered her eyes. "I thought I hated her guts, but when I saw her lying lifeless on the bed, my heart ached. I wanted to be close to her, even if we were separated by death."

Renee Jennings sighed, not knowing what to say.

After a moment, she finally asked, "Was it Connor Kent who buried Grace Sullivan’s body in the flower bed?"

Mae Sullivan closed her eyes and nodded. "Yes."

"Do you have anything else to say?" Renee Jennings asked.

Mae Sullivan’s emotions seemed to have stabilized. She said softly, "No."

"Alright." Renee Jennings stood up and left the interrogation room.

In another interrogation room, Connor Kent was still insisting he didn’t know there was a body at the villa.

Renee Jennings knocked, pushed the door open, and glanced at Connor Kent. Her gaze then fell upon Henry Stark as she said coolly, "Henry, Mae Sullivan has told us everything."

Connor Kent looked at Renee Jennings and asked with a frown, "What did she tell you?"

Renee Jennings shot Henry Stark a questioning look. Seeing him nod, she said slowly, "She said Grace Sullivan committed suicide."

"Suicide?" Connor Kent said, astonished. "How could it be suicide?"

Renee Jennings looked at him, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Does Mr. Kent have something to say?"

Connor Kent’s expression changed slightly as he realized he had misspoken.

"I was just surprised," he explained. "Grace Sullivan was someone who loved life. It’s impossible that she would commit suicide."

"Then what is your opinion on Grace Sullivan’s death, Mr. Kent?" Henry Stark asked.

Connor Kent fell silent again.

Renee Jennings added, "Mae Sullivan also said that you, Mr. Kent, buried Grace Sullivan’s body with your own hands."

Connor Kent’s face suddenly darkened.

’Has she gone insane?’

’To think she’d tell the police everything!’

"I want to see Mae Sullivan," he demanded in a low voice.

The police arranged for them to meet. Mae Sullivan looked at him, dejected.

"You said Grace Sullivan committed suicide?" Connor Kent stared at her intently.

Mae Sullivan said coolly, "She had depression."

"Are you serious?" Connor Kent’s eyes were filled with suspicion. "Did Grace Sullivan really commit suicide?"

"She sent me a video. Do you want to see it?" Mae Sullivan asked.

"Where is it?" Connor Kent looked anxious.

Mae Sullivan found the video and handed him her phone.

After Connor Kent finished watching the video, the rims of his eyes suddenly turned red. "Grace, how could you be so foolish..."

Mae Sullivan looked at him and said calmly, "Connor Kent, let’s get a divorce."

After a police investigation, it was determined that Grace Sullivan’s death was caused by an overdose of sleeping pills and was unrelated to Mae Sullivan.

Connor Kent was given an administrative fine for burying the body in the villa’s flower bed without authorization.

With the case closed, Renee Jennings felt a great sense of relief.

She looked at the colleagues she had been working with for the past few days and said with a smile, "I’m treating everyone to barbecue tonight."

"Yay! Then I won’t hold back!" Kyle Morgan cheered.

Sawyer looked at Renee Jennings. "You’re spending too much."

"Not at all." Renee Jennings smiled. "I’ve been wanting to treat you all to a meal for a while."

She had asked Michelle Fuller to recommend a barbecue place. It was in a shopping mall and was very popular; when they arrived, the entrance was full of people waiting in line.

Thankfully, Michelle Fuller had reminded her to get a number online, so they only had to wait for one more table.

"D13, your table is ready."

The announcement sounded over the broadcast.

"That’s us," Renee Jennings said, standing up.

The group walked into the barbecue restaurant. It was extremely lively inside, with every table full and the air thick with the rich, charred aroma of grilled meat.

After they were seated, Renee Jennings scanned the QR code menu with her phone, then gestured for the others to look. "See what you guys want to eat."

Kyle Morgan waved his hands. "It’s fine, it’s fine. We’ll eat whatever you order."

Zachary Conway chimed in, "Yeah, just order whatever. It’ll be fine."

Sawyer said, "Renee, don’t order too much food. Just get a few extra orders of rice. The guys have big appetites."

Feeling like everyone was worried she’d spend too much, Renee Jennings laughed and said, "I’ll order a stone pot bibimbap, a beef rice bowl, and some stone pot noodles. We can all taste them and then order more of whichever ones we like."

It was a happy meal. When Renee Jennings went to pay the bill, Henry Stark also walked up to the cashier, opened his payment QR code, and stood to the side.

Renee Jennings’s sharp eyes caught him. She frowned and said, "We agreed it’s my treat tonight. Don’t you try to steal it from me."

Seeing her serious expression, Henry Stark put his phone away and nodded. "Alright, you pay."

Only then was Renee Jennings satisfied.

As they were finishing their last cup of tea and getting ready to leave, a poodle brought in by another customer suddenly started barking aggressively.

No one else thought much of the sudden barking, but Renee Jennings’s brows slowly furrowed.

She tilted her head and looked over.

Seeing this, Henry Stark asked, "What’s wrong?"
