Chapter 350: Unexpected Surprise ( 1 )
The Village Chief had already shown Gu Muyang and Gu Langren the house allocated to them. Although it was located near the mountain foothills and the house was dilapidated, it was better than the cave where they had stayed before.
When they entered the house, they cleaned it up before going to the well to draw some water to wash their faces and hands.
After they closed the broken door, Gu Muyang finally said, "Langren, eat something first."
Gu Langren was tired and hungry, so he didn’t refuse and took a seat beside his Master. Seeing the big steamed bun, he swallowed and said, "I never expected that a small Squad Leader would be able to afford such fine food here."
Gu Muyang took a bite of the steamed bun, and his eyes lit up instantly. The bun was soft yet chewy. There was a hint of sweetness. The filling was generous and flavorful. Besides the vegetables, there were also eggs.
Unlike Gu Langren, Gu Muyang didn’t think as simply as him. There must be a reason why Fu Chen’an gave him such fine food. He even wondered if that man knew about his identity.
They ate the steamed buns in silence. After they finished one steamed bun each, they drank the water brought from Fu Chen’an’s house.
Wrapping the rest of the steamed buns, Gu Muyang said, "Send these to our brothers."
Gu Langren was moved. As a descendant of a noble family, his Master was used to eating good food. Now, he couldn’t even eat his fill, yet he still remembered his guards.
He accepted the order and left silently.
The house’s location made it easier for them to contact the rest of the guards. Besides Gu Langren, there were a total of eight guards staying in the mountain cave, recuperating from their injuries.
As the night deepened, Gu Langren finally returned from the mountain and spread a stack of hay on the ground. The Master and the guard finally fell asleep when the moon hung high in the sky.
Meanwhile, Yao Zhi and her husband were inside their shared manor.
As Fu Chen’an ate the instant noodles, Yao Zhi told him about what Xi Yi had revealed earlier. When she was done, she asked, "Husband, what do you think we should do?"
"Although I told Xi Yi that she could make her own decision, that person’s identity is too complicated. If we have too much contact with him, would it bring trouble to our family?"
When Fu Chen’an heard his wife say "our family," his heart fluttered, and he almost choked on the noodles. He quickly swallowed the food and drank some water handed to him by his wife.
After calming down, he replied hoarsely, "Wife, since you already told Xi Yi to decide, then you shouldn’t worry too much. Now that they have already changed their faces and eye color, unless they reveal their identity, no one would be able to recognize them."
Hearing this, Yao Zhi thought about Gu Muyang yesterday and nodded. He saw Xi Yi, yet he didn’t recognize her at all. With this thought, her heart calmed down a little.
"But that person decided to stay in our village. What if his identity is exposed one day? Wouldn’t it bring disaster to our village?" she asked again.
"Well, unless the Emperor doesn’t care about offending the General, that might happen. But with the might of the White Tiger Army, I doubt the imperial court will do it openly."
"If they choose to use underhanded tactics, the General is not a simple person. What’s more, don’t you have your personal guards? With them protecting you, it would not be a problem to relocate if war broke out."
Yao Zhi thought it over and sighed. "It would be best if there is no more war. I don’t want to abandon my land and home."
Fu Chen’an smiled when he heard his wife say this. He held her hands and reassured her, "Don’t worry, I will protect our home."
Yao Zhi met her husband’s firm gaze and nodded. "I believe in you."
After a moment of thought, Fu Chen’an asked, "Wife, can you prepare a mask and the contact lens for Gu Muyang?"
Although she didn’t know what he was planning, Yao Zhi still nodded and replied, "The system had scanned him and Gu Daniu before. We can custom-made a mask for them."
"There is no need for Gu Daniu. Just give me one mask and one contact lens suitable for Gu Muyang." After a moment of pause, Fu Chen’an added, "Wife, can you make this mask have a fixed appearance?"
Yao Zhi asked her personal assistant before she nodded. "That shouldn’t be a problem. What kind of appearance do you want for this mask?"
Fu Chen’an thought for a moment before he replied, "The most common appearance, the one that is able to blend with the crowd easily."
A moment later, Yao Zhi took out a mask and a pair of contact lenses from her system’s storage and said, "Husband, here is the mask you want."
Fu Chen’an trusted the system and put it into his spatial bag. "I will visit him tomorrow before dawn."
"Husband, you should be careful. That Daniu is not easy to deal with," Yao Zhi reminded him.
"I know. Don’t worry," he nodded.
After their discussion, Fu Chen’an finished his supper and took a shower. When they were ready to sleep, they left the shared manor and reappeared in their room.
This time, they slept close to each other. With his arms wrapped around his wife’s soft body, Fu Chen’an finally closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Early the next morning, when Yao Zhi finished washing up and went to the kitchen, Xi Yi was already working.
The stoves were already lit, and a pot of water was being boiled on top of one of them. Another stove was steaming something.
Smelling the scent in the air, she knew that it was steamed buns. After she taught her people how to make steamed buns and millet porridge, these had become their most commonly eaten foods.
