Chapter 389: Infiltrating The General’s Mansion ( 1 )
Fu Chen’an glanced at his team members and replied, "I will sneak into the General’s mansion."
"Squad Leader, that’s too dangerous."
"You can’t go alone. At least bring two or three people with you."
Noticing their worries, Fu Chen’an raised his hand and said, "I know what I’m doing. All of you should focus on your own tasks. Remember, your safety is the priority. If you notice any danger, retreat immediately."
Seeing that they still wanted to argue, he added, "This is a military order."
Since he had already said so, the soldiers could only nod. "Understood."
Before they went their separate ways, Fu Chen’an filled their waterskins with water mixed with spiritual spring water and gave each of them 6 compressed biscuits.
The soldiers were full of doubts. But when they saw him folding a piece of fabric afterward, they assumed that the food and water had been wrapped inside it and no longer felt suspicious.
"No matter what the result is, everyone must gather at this place in 3 days," he reminded them. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Understood."
After discussing their plans, they finally left the dark alley.
Fu Chen’an waited until his team members disappeared into the crowd before he changed into a set of old, patched clothes. Then, he smeared the dirt on the wall on his face to hide his complexion before he walked toward the inner city.
Compared to the slum area, the inner city was much livelier. Barbarian soldiers could be seen everywhere. Some were patrolling the streets while others drank openly in broad daylight.
The further he went from the slum area, the tighter the security became.
Fu Chen’an lowered his head slightly, hunched his back, and blended into the crowd.
Along the way, he noticed that many shops had already changed owners. Most of the merchants were barbarians, while the local people could only work as servants or laborers.
Some women stood outside taverns wearing thin, see-through clothes despite the scorching sun and wind. Their expressions were numb while they endured the wandering hands of drunken soldiers touching their bodies.
Fu Chen’an’s expression darkened, but he remained calm and continued walking.
After he walked aimlessly for several hours, he finally saw the General’s mansion.
The mansion used to belong to the Prefect of the Northeast City. Now, the plaque above the gate had already been replaced with barbarian characters.
More than 20 guards stood outside the gate carrying curved blades. There were also patrol teams moving around the surrounding streets every quarter of an hour.
Fu Chen’an didn’t approach rashly. Instead, he walked past the mansion naturally and memorized the surrounding terrain.
After circling the area once, he entered a small abandoned courtyard several roads away from the General’s mansion.
Only after confirming that no one was around did he take out a human skin mask and contact lenses from his spatial bag. These were prepared by his wife.
He put on the mask and the contact lens. With a thought, his face and eye color changed into one that looked like the barbarian. He then took out a small box and used the paste inside to create a fake scar on his face.
When he was done, Fu Chen’an found a place to rest and waited patiently until nightfall.
As darkness descended, he took out a cloak and a mask from his spatial bag. He put on the cloak and pulled down the hood. He also put on the half mask that covered the lower part of his face. When he was done, he finally went to the General’s mansion.
Hiding behind a pile of broken baskets and damaged wooden boxes a few meters away, he could hear the sounds of laughter and music coming from the mansion. Judging from the noise, the barbarians must be holding a banquet.
This was his chance.
Using the shadows as cover, he moved toward the rear wall of the mansion like a ghost. With one smooth movement, he climbed the wall and slipped into the back courtyard.
The moment he landed on the ground, Fu Chen’an hid in the shadows. He waited quietly for a while before hearing the sound of footsteps. Judging from the pace, the person approaching should be a burly man with low-level martial arts skills.
Not long after, a guard walked over slowly. His face was flushed and his steps unsteady. His armor was disheveled, and he walked while tying up his pants.
Seeing this, Fu Chen’an narrowed his eyes.
When the guard walked past him, Fu Chen’an rushed forward.
With a chop to the back of the neck, the guard rolled his eyes and lost consciousness. Before the man could collapse onto the ground, Fu Chen’an reached out to catch him and dragged him behind the woodshed.
In less than five minutes, he had stripped the guard of everything except his pants. Then, he changed into the guard’s clothes and armor before tying the weapon around his waist.
Before leaving, he used some hemp rope found nearby to tie the guard up. He then shoved a smelly rag into the guard’s mouth and secured it with a strip of coarse cloth.
When he was done, Fu Chen’an closed his eyes. Soon after, the human skin mask shifted slightly. Within seconds, a face identical to the unconscious guard’s appeared on his own face.
Since they had similar builds, there was little need to worry about being discovered. Copying the guard’s previous movements, he wandered around the General’s mansion.
He had already memorized the map of the Magistrate’s mansion beforehand, so now he only needed to determine which room the barbarian General used as his study.
To ensure their chances of victory during the war, the best thing would be to find the city defense map.
The barbarians were proud and arrogant. After occupying the city for so many years while the Great Yan Kingdom did nothing, they no longer felt threatened.
Although guards still patrolled the mansion, it was merely for show. The passing guards didn’t even bother checking on Fu Chen’an when they saw him stumbling around drunkenly.
This was common practice among them.
