Twin Treasures: The CEO Wife's 99-Day of Revelations
Chapter 1407: Her Matters Weigh on His Heart
He was praying for a miracle to happen, praying for time to slow down, praying for Simon to hurry up!
The heavy rain was showing signs of easing. The raindrops falling on the car hood were splashing up smaller and smaller sprays, and the force was no longer as fierce as before.
The whole world grew much quieter.
Trevor glanced at the rearview mirror; the road behind had been completely cut off, but the mountain slope seemed to be gradually stabilizing.
Just three meters away, the road was piled high with rocks and clods of earth, only some fine branches and mud still sliding downward.
They couldn’t relax yet, because no one knew what the situation was higher up on the mountain.
At this moment, Simon was rushing this way with professional firefighters and several helicopters; even at the fastest, they’d need ten minutes to arrive.
Halfway up the mountain road, inside the Maybach.
Janelle Mills had her forehead resting against Trevor’s warm chest; as the sound of the rain stopped, she seemed to hear his heartbeat.
Beat after beat, strong and powerful, slowly calming her own heart.
When the rain finally stopped, Janelle lifted her eyes from his arms; his face was gentle.
She slowly turned her gaze and saw the dark clouds in the sky scattering. Ten thousand rays of light poured down, and for a moment, the sunlight dazzled her eyes.
The world was utterly silent; she seemed to hear the chirping of insects and birds.
If it weren’t for the road blocked in front and behind, she would have thought what had just happened was only a dream.
Trevor’s deep gaze fell gently on her face. Seeing the tight line of her lips finally lift into a faint smile, the girl’s bell-like voice then sounded at his ear—
"The rain stopped! The sun’s out!!" She looked at him joyfully. "We’re saved! Heaven really favors us! If you survive a great disaster, good fortune is sure to follow!"
She hurriedly pulled her hand out of his, rolled down the car window, and turned to look behind them—
"Oh my god, the spot where we stopped is way too perfect, right? A little farther forward or back and we’d be meeting the King of the Underworld together!"
Trevor also had that feeling of having escaped with his life. The heart he’d been holding high loosened a little, and the corners of his lips curved faintly.
He wasn’t really listening to her words; it was as if that sentence still echoed in his ears: Trevor, I like you.
So... she’d meant it.
Janelle pulled her thoughts back, sat up straight and turned her head, only to find Trevor staring fixedly at her. Her chest tightened slightly. "..."
Their eyes met, and time seemed to stand still...
"Miss Janelle Mills, I’d like to interview you for a moment." Trevor’s voice was gentle as he opened the conversation.
Remembering her hurried confession just now, her cheeks flushed. "What do you want to ask?" She lowered her gaze. "I’ll answer selectively."
"Were you scared just now?" He kept his eyes on her without blinking.
She looked up. "Yes. I really thought I was going to die here."
"And what were you feeling then?" Trevor asked. "Anxious? Full of regret? Worried? Or calm?"
Janelle didn’t quite know what he was getting at, but she still thought about it very seriously. "Mostly fear. This is the closest I’ve ever been to death, but..."
Thinking of several moments, she felt a warm softness in her heart.
"At the most terrifying moment, what was running through your mind?" Trevor wanted to chat with her; that way, time might seem to pass faster.
If they just sat there waiting for rescue, it would be unbearable too, because the fear hadn’t completely faded.
She drew back her gaze, sat up straight, and said—
"I thought of my mom and dad. It’s been a long time since the three of us sat at the same table for a meal. I thought, if we could just have a meal together, my life wouldn’t feel so full of regret."
That probably counted as one of her wishes.
So Trevor was already planning that once they got back, he’d help her fulfill this wish. A meal was a small matter.
But when it came to her, he took it to heart.
