Carlotta gathered her thoughts, seeing him for the first time brewing his emotions so formally, as if to speak from the depths of his heart, creating a bit of anticipation within her.

But just as Nathan Mills was about to speak, the ringing of a mobile phone shattered the atmosphere and disrupted their thoughts.

Carlotta snapped back to reality, her face stern once again.

Nathan Mills took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and answered, "Hello."

The call was from his personal assistant, and whatever the other person said was unknown to Carlotta; she only saw his brows gradually furrow as he patiently listened to the call, finally saying in a grave tone, "Okay, I’ll come over now!"

It seemed like something major had happened.

Ending the call, Nathan Mills suppressed the urgency in his heart and calmly looked at the woman in the room, "There’s an issue at the company that requires my immediate attention. You stay here first, and I’ll come back for you tomorrow."

After saying this, without waiting for her agreement, Nathan Mills directly strode out.

Carlotta watched his silhouette disappear into the night, feeling a sudden emptiness inside, wondering what he intended to say to her if he hadn’t left.

Such a great atmosphere was ruined by a phone call, leaving Carlotta with the illusion that Nathan Mills would say something she wanted to hear.

At night, sitting in the car parked by the asphalt road, Janelle sat in the passenger seat, cupping a bear-shaped cake in her hands, muttering, "Why is there only one fork?"

Trevor turned his gaze, his deep and gentle eyes fell on her face, he remained silent.

Janelle split the cake in half, "You eat first? Have a taste?" extending the fork towards him, with the other hand holding the cake out to him.

She wasn’t bothered about using a fork he had eaten or sharing his saliva.

"You eat." Trevor’s gentle voice, like a piece of sacred white light, received the fork, scooped some cream, and lifted it to her lips.

Janelle paused for a moment, her heartbeat skipping a beat, facing his gaze, she blushed and opened her mouth.

Her heart was like a bouncing fawn!

Trevor once more fed her the cream, her eyes flickered with a soft glow, that faint smile reflected in his eyes, amidst the car’s ambient light.

Just like that, Trevor fed her a few bites of cake, it truly felt like a romantic illusion.

Until a car drove past them, Janelle inadvertently turned her gaze, furrowing her brows, "My dad’s car?"

Trevor also glanced over, confirming the license plate, it was indeed Uncle Mills’ car.

"What’s going on?" Janelle grew nervous, "Did they have a fight?" Suddenly losing her appetite for cake, "Trevor, hurry and take me back!"

"Alright." He handed her the fork, placed both hands on the steering wheel, started the car, and headed towards that small bungalow.

Lights were still on in the living room, as the car stopped, through the window, Janelle saw that familiar figure by the window. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"I won’t be going in." Trevor didn’t even plan to get out of the car, he said to her, "If your dad hasn’t told your mom about his marital situation, you definitely need to tell her, it’s crucial."

"Got it." Janelle nodded, quickly getting out of the car, "The cake is yours, it’s really delicious, I’ll just keep the little bear, bye-bye."

Waving to him, she closed the car door and turned to head into the living room.

Trevor glanced toward the living room, started the car, and drove off.

Seeing her daughter approaching, Carlotta withdrew all emotions from her face, returning to her usual aloof and inscrutable demeanor.

Upon entering, Janelle sensed something unusual, she presented the cake in front of her mother, using the fork to scoop some cream to her lips, "Here, Sister Sterling, you must try this cake, the taste is superb!"

Carlotta looked at her daughter, opened her mouth.

"How is it?" Janelle asked with a grin, "Isn’t it nice?"

Carlotta savored the cake, examining her closely, "Your bag? Didn’t you retrieve it specially from the hospital?" Her look seemed intent on seeing through her.
