Venerable Demon Chef
Chapter 395 - 392: Unable to Rest in Peace
"Trick you? What good would tricking you do me?" Mo Qi retorted with a cold laugh.
Liu Luoyan’s heart trembled. Recalling Xiao Shan’s recent coldness toward her, she found herself, for some reason, starting to believe Mo Qi.
But she still refused to concede defeat, saying, "I don’t believe you! If someone from the Xiao Family was really here, how could the many experts of the Liu Family not have noticed?"
Mo Qi shrugged. "Whether you believe me or not is your business. I’m just stating a fact."
He never intended to convince Liu Luoyan of anything; he just found her pathetic.
Their conversation wasn’t hidden from anyone, so all the Liu Family experts heard everything.
"The Xiao Family is nearby?!"
’That has to be a lie. How did we not notice?’
The experts exchanged strange looks. They all thought Mo Qi was saying this deliberately to attack her spirit and torment Liu Luoyan.
Only Liu Hong furrowed his brow. Forgetting about pleading for Liu Luoyan, he quickly formed hand seals, activating the Liu Family’s Mountain Protection Array to scan the surrounding hundred-li radius.
He believed Mo Qi’s words without a doubt.
’If Mo Qi said the Xiao Family was here, then they must be here.’
Sure enough, as the Array Power radiated outward, Liu Hong immediately discovered an anomaly.
"Xiao Shan, since you’re already here, must an old man like me personally invite you to show yourself?"
The members of the Liu Family were shocked to hear this. ’They’re really here?!’
BZZZ!
Space trembled. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
A middle-aged man in an embroidered black robe appeared before them.
It was the Patriarch of the Xiao Family, Xiao Shan!
"This son-in-law greets Father-in-Law." Xiao Shan bowed deeply, performing a grand salute to Liu Hong.
"Hmph. An old man like me can’t bear to be called ’Father-in-Law’ by you. Such arrogance, such a wicked heart," Liu Hong jeered with a cold laugh.
He was clearly blaming Xiao Shan.
"Brother Shan, save me!"
Inside the Array Light Gate, Liu Luoyan cried out for help as if she had seen her savior.
The space she had left to move was now less than thirty meters wide.
Judging by the speed at which the Array Light Gate was shrinking, she would be crushed to death in half a minute at most.
However, Xiao Shan acted as if he hadn’t heard her. Without even glancing her way, he focused his attention on Mo Qi.
"Mo Qi... Heh heh. How did you discover me?" Xiao Shan asked, his face devoid of expression.
Mo Qi was quite surprised by Xiao Shan’s actions.
’Even if you don’t care about Liu Luoyan, you’re still husband and wife, at least in name.’
’Besides, you were discovered and dragged out.’
’Is it really okay to just stand by and watch her die in front of her own family?’
As if sensing Mo Qi’s confusion, Xiao Shan took the initiative to explain.
"With me here, you can’t kill her. Now, please answer my question first," Xiao Shan said calmly, as if stating the obvious.
It was a confidence born from immense power, a condescending attitude that looked down on everything, as if all things were within his grasp.
Mo Qi couldn’t help but become vigilant.
He didn’t think the dignified Patriarch of the Xiao Family would be an idiot who liked to boast and act tough.
For him to dare say it meant he had enough confidence to handle any unexpected situation.
At this thought, Mo Qi’s will stirred, and he accelerated the contraction of the Array Light Gate.
RUMBLE!
Liu Luoyan shrieked in terror, "Xiao Shan, what are you standing there for?! Save me!"
Xiao Shan narrowed his eyes slightly, a trace of impatience appearing on his face.
He opened his palm, and a small, two-inch-long black sword appeared at his fingertips.
Although the Black Sword was small, it radiated an unparalleled sharpness. It was clearly no ordinary item.
Xiao Shan flicked a finger, and the Black Sword transformed into a streak of light, stabbing toward the Array Light Gate.
Space warped wherever it passed, leaving a faint spatial rift in its wake.
’Arrogant!’ Mo Qi sneered inwardly.
’Trying to save someone so brazenly right in front of me... you underestimate me!’
Just as the Black Sword was about to make contact with the Array Light Gate, the large Obsidian Cauldron appeared out of nowhere, blocking its path.
CLANG!
The heavy sound of metal colliding was deafening.
The shockwave from the impact spread out in visible ripples, causing mountains to crumble and the earth to crack wherever it went, as if it were the apocalypse.
"AHH!"
Along with a piercing scream, Liu Luoyan clutched her ears, her face contorted. Blood streamed from her seven orifices; she was clearly in immense pain.
Then, under everyone’s stunned gaze, Liu Luoyan spat out a mouthful of blood, her body went limp, and she collapsed to the ground, her Life Aura gone.
Before dying, her eyes remained open, staring fixedly in Xiao Shan’s direction, filled with unwillingness.
As if asking: ’Why?’
"This..."
Liu Luoyan hadn’t been crushed by the Array Light Gate. Instead, she had been killed by the shockwave from the collision between the Black Sword and the Obsidian Cauldron.
She died with her eyes open!
"Yan’er! My Yan’er!" Liu Hong cried out in anguish, nearly fainting.
If Liu Chen hadn’t been there to support him, he might have collapsed to the ground.
No matter how great a mistake Liu Luoyan had made, she was still his own daughter.
Watching his daughter die so tragically before his very eyes, Liu Hong couldn’t bear the grief.
Mo Qi was completely dumbfounded. This was an outcome he had never expected.
Xiao Shan was also stunned. That Black Sword was an Immortal Artifact, capable of unleashing Immortal Level Combat Power!
He had thought breaking open the Array Light Gate and rescuing Liu Luoyan would be as easy as flipping his hand.
He never imagined that not only would he fail to save her, but he would end up killing her instead.
This sent Xiao Shan into a rage. It wasn’t because Liu Luoyan was dead, but because his own prestige had been utterly shattered.
His union with Liu Luoyan was, on one hand, because she had been infatuated with him and utterly devoted; on the other hand, it involved the interests of their two great families.
As for himself, he actually had very little affection for Liu Luoyan.
Furthermore, since the Liu Family bore undeniable responsibility for Xiao Zhize’s death, Xiao Shan also held them accountable for it.
That was why he had remained hidden earlier instead of revealing himself.
"Good, good, very good!" Xiao Shan laughed in extreme anger. He retrieved the Black Sword and pointed it directly at Mo Qi. "I have only one question for you: did you kill my son, Xiao Zhize?"
Mo Qi likewise recalled the Obsidian Cauldron, which merged back into his Battle Armor.
"Whether I killed him or not is no longer important. What’s important is that your son did something wrong in the Mortal District—something unforgivable!"
"Even if he hadn’t died, even if the Xiao Family hadn’t come looking for me, I would have killed him sooner or later, and then I would have flattened your entire Xiao Family!"
The myriad Yin Spirits of the Void Sect had yet to find peace, and the grudge for his master, Yu Liang, was etched into Mo Qi’s heart, never to be forgotten.
He and the Xiao Family were destined for a battle to the death; only one could survive.
"Hahaha!" Xiao Shan burst into laughter, as if he had just heard the world’s greatest joke.
"Mo Qi, don’t tell me you think defeating that junior, Huangfu Yu, gives you the right to act so defiantly before me?"
"I’ve heard you have a Secret Technique that can rival Immortal Level Combat Power. Right now, you want to kill me, and I want to kill you. Why don’t we settle this with a life-or-death duel?"
As he spoke, killing intent erupted from Xiao Shan’s eyes, so intense it was almost tangible.
He believed that someone of Mo Qi’s age, possessing such powerful methods, must be an arrogant and prideful person.
With just a little provocation, he could be goaded into a hot-headed state and agree to the duel.
And at that point, Xiao Shan had countless ways to take Mo Qi’s life.
However, Mo Qi shook his head. "I refuse."
