Venerable Demon Chef
Chapter 45 - 43: Leaving
A hundred contribution points for a single dish. To someone who had never tried it, they would have to be crazy to accept such a price.
But for repeat customers like Chen Liang and Huang Hao, a hundred contribution points was more than worth it!
Normally, when using Spirit Stones or Elixirs to aid one’s Cultivation, they first had to be refined and then slowly absorbed.
A large portion of the Spiritual Energy and medicinal effects would be lost during this process. The loss was even more severe for disciples with poor Spirit Root Talent and low Spiritual Energy Affinity.
This was also why talent determined the speed of one’s Cultivation.
But Medicinal Cuisine didn’t need to be refined. Strictly speaking, it was just a dish that could be absorbed directly.
This infinitely narrowed the talent gap between disciples. As long as they ate the same portion of Medicinal Cuisine, the amount of medicinal effect they absorbed would be more or less the same.
Furthermore, for an equivalent value, Medicinal Cuisine was far more effective than their usual Cultivation Resources.
So, as long as one wasn’t an idiot, they would make the same choice after tasting the Medicinal Cuisine.
"I’d like an order of Purple Bamboo Golden Fragrant Rice to go," a white-robed youth said to Liu Ruyan. He sniffed the aroma filling the air, swallowing repeatedly as he fought the urge to buy a portion and eat it on the spot.
Liu Ruyan counted on her fingers and said playfully, "Are you sure you want takeout? It’s ten times the price."
The white-robed youth nodded. Ten times it was, then. It wasn’t his money, anyway.
He had been sent by someone to gather information and buy a portion of Medicinal Cuisine.
"Alright then. One thousand contribution points. Please make the transfer first." Liu Ruyan held out Mo Qi’s Identity Token.
The white-robed youth did as instructed, transferring a thousand contribution points to Mo Qi. He couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, ’I bust my ass all year just to earn a few hundred contribution points, and this Mo Qi makes a thousand from a single dish. It’s completely outrageous!’
After confirming the transfer was correct, Liu Ruyan handed him a packed order of Purple Bamboo Golden Fragrant Rice. Without a backward glance, the white-robed youth hurried away.
He was afraid that if he stayed any longer, he wouldn’t be able to resist buying a portion to taste.
"Get me one for takeout, too."
"Me too!"
Suddenly, all the spies began asking for takeout. After all, the temptation of the Medicinal Cuisine was overwhelming, and they were about to give in, too.
Liu Ruyan was puzzled. ’Are these disciples all that rich?’
Though curious, she didn’t try to stop them. Mo Qi was the one profiting in the end, so why would she? In fact, she hoped even more people would order takeout.
Meanwhile, Mo Qi was simultaneously cooking Medicinal Cuisine and studying Arrays.
With the annotations and additions from the Chaos Scripture, the Array Outline wasn’t difficult to learn.
On the contrary, it came to him with exceptional ease, as if he had already mastered this knowledge and was now simply reviewing it.
That feeling of déjà vu allowed Mo Qi to quickly achieve a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of Arrays. All he lacked now was practical experience.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t condense True Essence in his body. Although his Spiritual Power was strong, he lacked the crucial medium to call upon the Power of Heaven and Earth, making him unable to set up Arrays. He couldn’t even inscribe an Array Base.
"Sigh, it looks like I’ll have to wait until my Nine Transformations into Spirit are complete," Mo Qi sighed in regret.
Only after truly coming into contact with and understanding Arrays could one grasp how powerful and esoteric they were.
If he could use Arrays, Mo Qi was confident his overall strength—both in preparing Medicinal Cuisine and in combat—would rise to a whole new level.
Inside the restaurant, Yu Liang and Yang Ming sat across from each other, eating side dishes provided by Mo Qi and drinking wine they had brought themselves. They were having a wonderful time.
Just then, both of their expressions changed. They had simultaneously received a message from Yun Xuzi.
They exchanged a glance, each seeing the surprise in the other’s eyes.
"Junior Brother Mo, something big is happening in the Sect. The Secret Realm is opening ahead of schedule. Do you want to go with Liu Hui and challenge the Void Road?" Yang Ming asked via voice transmission.
"What’s going on?" Mo Qi asked without turning around, still focused on cooking the Medicinal Cuisine.
"It’s about the Earth-level Spiritual Ore..." Yang Ming explained the situation in detail, then added, "The Sect has specifically named you to lead the team in a competition against the Wolf Fang Sect’s younger generation. The distribution of the Spiritual Ore is at stake, so you need to take this seriously."
Mo Qi frowned, completely puzzled. "Why me? Why do I have to lead the team?"
"Because you’re a Core Disciple!" Yang Ming said with a smile. "Every competition between sects has a Core Disciple present to oversee things. It just so happens that this time, the other Core Disciples are all away from the Sect on other matters, so you’re the only one they can send."
Mo Qi nodded. The explanation was perfectly reasonable.
"Don’t worry, the Core Disciple is just there to preside over the event. You won’t have to actually fight," Yang Ming said reassuringly, assuming Mo Qi was worried about being defeated and losing face.
Mo Qi smiled and didn’t explain anything.
"Is Liu Hui going too?"
Yang Ming nodded. "He’s been making a name for himself lately. His strength is impressive, but his Cultivation is a bit low. That’s why I want him to challenge the Void Road, to try and break through to the next Realm before the competition begins."
"Fine, you can take him. I won’t be going," Mo Qi said with a smile.
Everyone only had one chance to challenge the Void Road. Before completing the Nine Transformations into Spirit and cultivating True Essence, Mo Qi didn’t want to waste this opportunity.
He had a premonition that once his Nine Transformations into Spirit reached Perfection, he would undergo a heaven-and-earth-shattering transformation.
If he challenged the Void Road then, he would reap the greatest rewards.
"Alright. I’ll take Liu Hui now. He should be back before nightfall tomorrow." With that, Yang Ming led Liu Hui out of the restaurant.
Yu Liang tossed Mo Qi a Storage Ring and smiled. "My dear disciple, inside are some Elixirs I’ve refined. Keep them for self-defense; after all, you can’t always cook Medicinal Cuisine whenever you need it. I may not be able to look after you for a while, so you must be extra careful."
As the Void Sect’s chief Alchemy Master, he had to remain constantly vigilant during the standoff with the Wolf Fang Sect. He needed to refine High-Level Elixirs that powerful cultivators could use for amplification and healing.
After all, no one knew what might ultimately happen. If the Wolf Fang Sect was dead set on taking the Earth-level Spiritual Ore for themselves, these Elixirs would be critical in the ensuing conflict.
"Thank you, Master." Mo Qi accepted the Elixirs and bowed deeply.
"You little rascal, still standing on ceremony with me!" Yu Liang chided with a laugh. In a flash, his figure vanished.
Mo Qi fell into deep thought. ’Making me lead the team... things probably aren’t that simple. This won’t do. I have to complete the Sixth Transition Essence Purification and break through to the Seventh Turn Foundation Establishment before I depart!’
Mo Qi wasn’t the type of person to pin his hopes on others, and he certainly wasn’t accustomed to trusting his safety to luck.
He trusted only in himself.
"Everyone!" Mo Qi stepped out of the kitchen, his gaze sweeping across everyone in the restaurant. "From now on, this establishment will offer a limited supply of two hundred servings of Medicinal Cuisine per day. We have already sold one hundred and forty-six today."
The moment he finished speaking, the entire restaurant fell deathly silent.
A limited supply? He had to be joking!
It was only the second day of business, but judging from the number of people lined up outside, there were at least several hundred more waiting.
And considering the effects of the Medicinal Cuisine, the number of customers was only bound to increase in the days to come.
The Void Sect had nearly a hundred thousand disciples. Even if the Outer Disciples and Inner Sect Disciples couldn’t afford a hundred contribution points, that still left over ten thousand Elite Disciples.
Compared to that number, two hundred servings of Medicinal Cuisine was a drop in the ocean.
