Chapter 66: The Game

"It was really nice having you," Caroline said as Trevor calmly wore the clothes that had been prepared for him in advance.

They had spent the whole day talking about various topics.

It was truly blissful. Caroline didn’t really want him to go now. She loved the feeling of being coddled on his chest, the discussions, the laughter. Everything just seemed perfect, until time found its way to slip by so quickly.

"Yeah, I’ll keep coming around throughout next week," Trevor said with a smile, as though he was trying to console her.

He was actually planning to take his magic and combat training to the next level in the coming week.

After all, he would be going for the guild selection stuff by the end of the week, and he still had a lot of things to do in preparation.

Caroline only nodded slightly to his words as she watched him walk away.

"Wait," Caroline called out all of a sudden, as though she had just remembered something.

"You said you wanted to work on your magic, right?" Caroline asked lightly.

Trevor slowly nodded, trying to understand exactly where she was heading.

"Well, I happen to have a virtual reality game in my drawer built for just that," Caroline said, almost excited, as she hurried to the drawer to get the game flash drive and the necessary gear.

Trevor looked at the flash drive carefully, and in an instant, he was already able to recognize which game it was.

His mouth almost hit the floor. This game was not even available to the public because of how effective it was, and then again, the cost of it was insane.

"Trevor,"

Caroline called out softly.

"You know what this is, right?" she asked, a tone of seriousness in her voice.

Trevor looked back at her with the same expression of concern and seriousness.

Who didn’t know what game this was? It was obviously the trending Void Game.

It was called "Void" because the initial home screen was said to be nothing but emptiness. But no one could really confirm this, because most people had never actually experienced the game in their lives.

But like always, humans were not wise. They always took the government’s words as absolute truth.

Despite all the good the Aviators had brought to them, the moment the government labeled them evil, they were indeed evil in the eyes of the public.

Trevor was certain that if any human saw him and discovered he was an Aviator, they would definitely turn him in immediately for the ten million bounty reward.

But Trevor just didn’t care at all. All he had ever wanted was to avenge the Aviators and expose the flawed government system.

"Yes... I know what it is. It’s the Void Game," Trevor said, slightly unsure whether he was really going to accept it or not.

"Promise me you’ll protect this with your life. It’s my dad’s, and there are only ten copies in production," Caroline immediately cut in before Trevor could even decline the offer, wrapping his hands around the box as if it were already his.

Trevor let out a long sigh before finally speaking.

"Don’t worry. I’ll protect it and return it at school on Monday morning," Trevor said, nodding calmly, trying to ease Caroline’s tense nerves.

"Well, if I may ask, why the sudden interest in combat and magic all of a sudden?" Caroline asked, her face turning thoughtful as she wondered about his recent actions.

Trevor didn’t speak at first, trying to organize the best reply for her.

"Well, I really need to improve if I even stand a chance of getting the Hunter’s Pass during the recruitment," Trevor said with a small smile.

Caroline nodded in satisfaction as she scanned Trevor one more time before finally letting him go, the game set firmly in his hands.

Trevor came down the flight of stairs with a lot of joy in his heart.

Who could have ever imagined that he would be able to get such a video game just like that?

Trevor could barely believe his own eyes.

The game was stored in its own carton and then tucked into a black leather bag so it wouldn’t be obvious to normal eyes.

Who knew knowing Caroline would really be of help to him?

It felt like his spirit had been rejuvenated. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

No one could play the Void Game and come out the same person. The improvement would have to be drastic.

Trevor quickly entered the car, one of the men already holding the door open the moment he noticed Trevor approaching.

It was the same tyrants that had fought off a C-ranked dungeon creator like it was nothing.

Given the comparison to the D-ranked creature he and Caroline had killed at the beginning of the day, the strength gap was incredibly wide.

The ride was smooth, and in no time, Trevor was already back home.

His mom was in the kitchen this time around. She was obviously cooking, and the aroma from the doorway was already inviting.

Trevor immediately walked to the kitchen to at least help her finish up the meal.

And then he saw it.

His mom was wearing a very short skirt and a crop top.

It was more than obvious that she hadn’t expected him home this early.

She was washing some dishes, her back slightly bent, unaware of his presence.

Trevor’s mouth went dry immediately. He wanted to speak - or rather do something - but his eyes were locked on her.

But as fate would have it, he managed to look away just before his mom raised her head.

Almost instantly, her face turned red.

"I’m really sorry, I didn’t know you were coming home this early," Mia said quickly as she dropped the plates in her hands and rushed toward her room to at least change into something more appropriate.

Trevor couldn’t really blame her.

His mom was almost always uncomfortable due to her ailment. Her decision to wear something comfortable wasn’t wrong.

Mia immediately excused herself to go and change.

But in her rush, before she could get to her room, she slipped.

The water scattered on the floor did its work, causing her to lose her footing.

She managed to steady herself just in time, avoiding a hard fall.

Trevor rushed toward the commotion, shock written all over his face. But more importantly, he needed to make sure his mom was alright.

In that brief moment, the sudden movement had caused her skirt to shift upward slightly.
