Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System
Chapter 243: Legendary Zombie
Vikram also didn’t bother with them. After collecting for half a day, the medicines in the warehouse were almost all gathered.
Eighteen large sacks filled with various medicines appeared on the ground.
Even so, there were still some medicines left on the shelves.
It wasn’t that Vikram didn’t want them, but his backpack and the sacks he brought were already full.
"I can’t take all of these right now."
These sacks, filled with various different medicines, couldn’t be put into the spatial storage. For now, he could only carry them by hand.
He wasn’t planning to leave yet, after all, his main mission was the Legendary-level Zombie. The medicine was a free dessert for him.
When fighting the Legendary Zombie, he definitely couldn’t carry these medicines on him.
Leaving them on the ground like this would be a problem if they were stolen.
Thinking this, Vikram’s heart stirred, and he looked at the covetous Survivors outside.
"Hey, you guys, do you want these medicines?"
—
The few Survivors outside the pharmacy, despite seeing Vikram kill someone, hadn’t run yet because they noticed that Vikram seemed unable to take all the medicine.
They wanted to stay and observe a bit longer.
Hearing Vikram’s question, they all showed excitement, nodding their heads incessantly like pounding garlic.
"Yes, yes, we really want it, brother."
After all, they saw how the Epic-level died, and he was also holding a hot weapon.
At this point, how could they dare to harbor any thoughts of resistance against Vikram?
"If you want it, then fine, I’ll give you a task."
"I need to go upstairs in a bit, and I want you all to come with me."
"When we come back, all the medicine here that I can’t take with me will be yours."
"How about it?"
These Survivors originally thought some troublesome task would be given to them, but they didn’t expect such a simple request.
They nodded vigorously in agreement.
"As long as you don’t go back on your word, Big Brother, let alone one trip with you, even ten trips would be no problem."
"No time to lose, let’s go upstairs quickly, Big Brother."
At this moment, all they could see were the benefits of getting the medicine; they didn’t care about anything else.
Moreover, this guy himself was very powerful, so even if there was danger upstairs, they didn’t think anything would happen to them.
However, they hadn’t considered that while Vikram would indeed be safe, it didn’t mean he would protect them.
After Vikram pulled out a metal lock from who knows where and locked the iron door, a dozen survivors foolishly followed Vikram upstairs.
Only the kind-faced survivor from before was called back by Vikram at the rear of the group, who gestured for him to leave quickly.
This kind-faced survivor was no fool; seeing the unusual look in Vikram’s eyes, he didn’t hesitate, turning to leave the Hospital.
The group went upstairs, but just as they left, another group of uninvited guests arrived outside the Hospital...
"Brother, what exactly are you looking for? Tell us, we can help you find it. The sooner we find it, the sooner we can go home, right?"
On the fifth floor of the Hospital, Vikram led them through every floor.
He searched every nook and cranny, as if turning the place upside down.
At first, they thought Vikram was looking for some valuable Hospital equipment, but they dismissed that idea after seeing his disdain for the other junk.
Vikram didn’t answer; if they knew, what if they ran away?
Who would be his cannon fodder to test the power of the Legendary Zombie?
As the group remained puzzled, they had no choice but to follow Vikram for the sake of the medicine they were about to receive.
It wasn’t until they reached the corner of the main hall on the fifth floor of the Hospital that Vikram finally said, "Found it!!"
The accompanying Survivors’ faces immediately lit up with joy, thinking, "Finally, he found it."
Following Vikram’s gaze, they saw it was a corner, and many Survivors eager for a larger share of the medicine eagerly volunteered, rushing forward.
"Don’t even think about snatching it, the credit is mine."
Although they were all commoners with ordinary physiques, they weren’t stupid.
They knew that if they contributed, their treatment would definitely be different.
One by one, they rushed to the corner, eager to be the first to get what Vikram was looking for and present it to him.
But as they turned the corner, their expressions suddenly changed drastically.
"What is this? Black mist?"
The few Survivors at the very front saw no good things waiting for them to offer to Vikram.
Only swirling black mist permeated the corridor around the corner.
This mist resembled the Boundless Darkness, yet it carried a faint, familiar fishy smell.
The mist seemed to have a will of its own; hearing the commotion here, it immediately moved forward.
Realizing something was wrong, everyone wanted to retreat, but they were astonished to find their movements becoming extremely slow.
This slowness was not just a simple reduction in foot speed, but even their thoughts and actions felt as if they were trapped in quicksand, becoming incredibly sluggish.
Vikram watched with his own eyes as the Survivors who had previously mocked him were trapped in the black mist, struggling to escape but moving slowly, and a hint of solemnity couldn’t help but appear in his eyes.
[Special Ability: Boundless Darkness, clusters of black mist appear within an eight-meter radius, visibility for those entering the black mist range is reduced by 99%, and all action speeds are reduced by 30%.]
Even though he hadn’t seen the Legendary Zombie appear yet, this ability alone was enough for Vikram to be on high alert.
No one could clearly see what was inside the black mist, but anyone could guess that whatever was in there was extraordinary.
At this moment, no matter how foolish they were, they could roughly guess what was inside the black mist.
Recalling Vikram’s boast outside earlier, they had only taken it as a joke, but they never expected that he was truly here to find that ghostly thing in the Hospital; their faces all turned pale.
The Survivors not enveloped by the black mist were now thankful that they had run slower, otherwise, they would surely have met the same fate.
"Big Brother, save me, I don’t want to die!!!"
There were a total of four Survivors who charged into the black mist, and at this moment, they were all struggling and screaming for help.
Just a moment ago, more than half of their bodies were still visible, but soon only a few arms remained in the air.
Vikram watched coldly, showing no intention of reaching out to help.
At the same time, the black mist continued to surge towards Vikram and his companions, and before they knew it, it had already reached less than three meters in front of them.
It was clear that besides restricting the speed of Survivors entering the black mist, the mist itself was not slow.
"Ah!!!"
A scream rang out, then, as if a hand covered the mouth, it abruptly stopped before the cry was finished.
Immediately following were chilling sounds of bones cracking and chewing resounding through the corridor.
"Crunch! Crunch!"
A total of fifteen Survivors had come up with Vikram and his companions.
The eleven Survivors who hadn’t entered the mist had never witnessed such a terrifying situation.
Their faces turned alternately white and green.
Medicine could indeed be exchanged for a lot of food, which was very important to them.
But compared to their own lives, a little food was nothing.
The few of them exchanged glances, and without a second thought, turned to flee.
But before they could reach the staircase they had come from, they felt a flash before their eyes, and a figure had already blocked their path.
"Who allowed you to leave?"
"I already said we’d go down together later to get the medicine; if you leave now, won’t it be a wasted trip?"
Vikram’s lips curled into a sinister smile, noticing that the black mist was still some distance away, and said with a laugh.
"Brother, we don’t want those medicines anymore, please let us go."
"Yes, Brother, I’ll kowtow to you, I’m sorry for what happened before, please let us go home, I don’t want to get entangled with monsters."
The person finished speaking, without a moment’s hesitation, knelt down and began kowtowing repeatedly, admitting his mistake.
The rest of the Survivors followed suit, disregarding their dignity, and for a moment, the fifth floor of the Hospital was filled with the crisp sounds of kowtowing. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
However, Vikram didn’t care whether they admitted their mistakes or not; he had already tricked them into coming up, so there was no way he would let them leave.
Vikram stood still, his gaze cold as he watched the kneeling Survivors and the Boundless Darkness approaching behind them.
By letting them up, Vikram had no intention of sparing them. After all, this Legendary-level monster might attract powerful Shelters to hunt it down.
Summoning his Epic-level long saber, Vikram’s wrist moved slightly, and a flash of white light appeared.
A head flew into the air.
The person who was decapitated had been kowtowing a second before; now, their headless body slumped stiffly to the ground.
Already terrified by the Legendary Zombie’s abilities behind them, the remaining people were even more scared to death when they saw Vikram also killing people.
"Die by my blade, or go play with the Legendary-level monster for me. You choose."
"I’m telling you, under the Legendary Zombie’s hands, you might still have a chance to escape, but if you choose to run away, none of you will survive."
Vikram flicked the blood from his saber and said indifferently.
While giving them a choice, Vikram’s attention remained on the slowly approaching black mist.
It seemed that the four Survivors who were caught earlier needed some time to be eaten, which was why the black mist hadn’t gotten very close yet.
"Can having something to eat buy some time?"
Noticing this, Vikram looked at the kneeling Survivors on the ground with even greater eagerness.
Most of the remaining ten Survivors nodded in agreement.
Two Survivors who tried to rush to the stairwell and go downstairs while Vikram wasn’t looking were, without a doubt, cut down by two slashes.
To make an example, Vikram directly split the two of them in half, their bodies cleanly severed into two sections.
Organs and brains were scattered everywhere.
The effect was excellent; the eight Survivors on the ground didn’t dare to make a sound.
"Since you’ve chosen to stay, then do a good job for me. Look, that black mist isn’t so scary after all, is it? It moves so slowly, it can’t possibly catch up to you."
"All I need you to do is scatter and run on the fifth floor of this Hospital. You don’t need to do anything else; it’s that simple."
"The reward afterwards, as you’ve seen, is the medicine downstairs."
"Now, scatter."
Vikram’s tone was very gentle, but to the others, it sounded like a vengeful spirit urging them to their deaths, and their faces changed dramatically.
Immediately after, the eight Survivors scattered as if fleeing for their lives.
In reality, they didn’t care about any rewards at this point; all they heard in their minds was that completing the task meant survival.
One by one, they avoided the black mist and Vikram, running to various corners of the Hospital’s fifth floor.
Previously, when exploring the Hospital, Vikram had only reached the fourth floor at most; this was his first time on the fifth floor.
He had been searching for the Legendary Zombie earlier, and only now did he realize that this floor should be dedicated to the Hospital’s intensive care unit and regular wards.
So there were quite a few rooms on this floor where one could hide.
However, those Survivors were also very clever; none of them had chosen to enter a room yet.
They all knew that if they were caught in a room, there would be no escape.
At the same time, the noisy chewing sound finally stopped.
The black mist’s movement speed immediately increased several times the moment the sound stopped.
