Chapter 124: Striking Down A Demon

I braced my foot and dropped my weight down towards the giant slab of earth that was flung at me, stomping my foot down on it to send it flying back down towards the Anomaly that threw it at me.

I also took the chance to fly after it, using it as a shield to hide me from view while I raised my sword in a thrusting stance.

The rock in front of me shattered into pieces, revealing the Anomaly with two of its arms outstretched in a punching motion where it had shattered the slab with its fists.

I flew through the debris and hefted my blade to aim at its neck, preparing to impale it into its flesh.

But right before I could get close to it, its other pair of hands suddenly slammed in front of me, catching my sword in between its palms and stopping me in midair.

Before I could think of a counter, the other two arms also returned and I found them flying straight towards me from both sides.

Both palms slammed into me with a loud crack, just like how one would clap their hands together to crush a mosquito.

I winced as I felt the impact from the hit but there was no pain thanks to Dan’s ability that protected me from the damage.

The Anomaly moved its hands apart, trying to see if it managed to crush me.

I did not miss that chance as I let go of my sword that was still stuck in between its other hands to leap towards its face.

The Anomaly’s eyes widened, surprised to see that I was seemingly unaffected by its attack.

Before it could recover from its surprise, I was already within range of its face and I gave it a flying kick that struck against its left eye.

It felt like I was kicking against a pool of gelatin but it had the intended effect as the Anomaly let out a roar of pain while stumbling back.

I had to kick myself out of the way before I got slapped by its palm again, the demon Anomaly clutching at its face with all four of its hands.

I somersaulted and found my sword falling towards the ground and I sped towards it, snatching it out of the air before flying straight back towards the Anomaly.

Instead of going for its face, I flew towards the ground and skirted along its surface to head towards its feet.

The four armed Anomaly swivelled its head around, trying to search for me with its one good eye.

Fortunately, it did not notice me as I reached its ankles and slashed out my sword in a wide arc, cutting through the back and severing its achilles tendons.

I wasn’t even sure if it even had achilles tendons but when I heard the two distinct ’pop’ sounds coming from its ankles, I knew its anatomy was similar to a human’s.

The demon Anomaly then crumbled to fall forward, its legs unable to stand upright as it lost control over its feet.

I flew up as the Anomaly thrust out its arms to prevent itself from crashing into the ground, which suited me just fine as that position basically exposed the back of its neck to me.

I dove back down towards it and slashed my sword down towards its neck, aiming to decapitate it.

Unfortunately, the Anomaly recovered faster than I thought it could as it suddenly threw itself to the side, rolling away from me and letting my sword slice through empty air.

I couldn’t help but cluck my tongue at it before changing the direction of my gravity again to fly towards it once more.

What I did not expect to happen, however, was for the Anomaly to suddenly flip itself to stand on its four hands and spin around to kick out its leg at me.

Although I say ’kick’ it was more of using the momentum of the spin to swing its leg towards me instead.

Unfortunately for me, I was completely caught off guard and I ended up getting smashed by its knee and sent flying off to crash into the ground.

I groaned, feeling my body stinging a little from the impact which was not a good sign as it meant Dan’s ability might be reaching its limit of how much damage it could mitigate for me.

The Anomaly still remained upside down, using its four hands to walk around while its legs flopped around above. Its head was also lifted at an odd angle just so that it could see me, making it look like it was some kind of monster that crawled out from someone’s nightmare.

It was honestly quite a bizarre sight...

Should have expected a Commander Class Anomaly to be able to adapt to its situation quickly...

I stood back up and raised my sword again, kicking off the ground to charge towards it once more.

Reacting to my movement, it started spinning around again, using its legs to lash out in an arc towards me in an attempt at another kick.

But since I already knew where the attack was coming from, I could avoid it.

I waited until the legs flew past before I ducked under it, flying my way towards its lower back and slashing my sword at where his spine should be.

My sword cut through its flesh and the Anomaly fell on its side in pain, only for it to lash out its arms which smacked me out of the air to crash into the ground again.

This time, I could feel pain explode from my back when I landed, though it was still not enough to debilitate me.

This fucker and its stupid arms...

I got back up on my feet, using my sword as a crutch for support.

The Anomaly had pushed itself up on its elbows and was now glaring at me from where it laid on the ground.

It then raised two of its arms and a dark cloud appeared overhead again, lightning coursing through its shape.

Instead of waiting for it to summon a lightning bolt, I shot out my own at it first, aiming it at its head.

The Anomaly seemed to panic a little before lowering both of its arms that had been in the air to protect its face.

My lightning bolt crashed into its left arm and it was absorbed into it, coursing around the length of its upper arm as it sparked angrily.

Not done yet, it raised its other arm into the sky again, allowing another bolt of lightning to strike down on it and effectively giving it two electrified arms.

The Anomaly smirked at me and punched it back, returning both the lightning bolt I had shot and the new lightning bolt at me.

Oh yeah? Two can play at that game!!

I already experienced this from the tribulations earlier so I stood right where I was, not even attempting to defend myself and allowing myself to be struck by the lightning bolts.

The moment they hit me in the chest, I focused my concentration on redirecting them to my core instead, absorbing the energy within them.

I felt pain inside my chest for a moment, like someone was crushing my heart before the pain suddenly disappeared and I felt energy coursing through my veins.

With that new energy, I focused my will on the Anomaly, reaching for the feeling that I had just barely managed to squeeze out from myself the last time and exerted my will over it.

I only gave it a single command, "Stop."

The Anomaly froze up and I could already feel my energy draining at a drastic rate.

By my estimation, I only had a few seconds to spare so I immediately focused my control over the earth beneath my feet.

With it laying still, it gave me the perfect opportunity to use my new power.

I focused my will over the earth directly below the Anomaly’s chest, gathering as much power as I could.

And though the demon could not move and its eyes were frozen in its position of staring at me, I could somehow tell that it felt fear at that exact moment... Almost like it knew what was going to happen next.

I clenched my fist and punched it upwards, prompting a giant earthen spike to pierce through its chest and explode out from its back.

I quickly released my will over it and allowed it to move once more, cutting off the flow of energy right as I felt myself go weak in the knees.

Thankfully, I still had enough energy left to stand and I watched the four armed demon Anomaly struggle against the spike pierced through its chest, only to slowly succumb to its wound and its limbs flopped down lifelessly.

Interestingly... The two arms that were jutting out from above its shoulders slowly disintegrated away when it died.

Huh... So those weren’t its real arms to begin with?
