Chapter 99: ACCEPT ME!

The blade tore across his stomach and opened him up from side to side. Blood splattered across the dirt as he stumbled backward, clutching at the wound. Part of his intestines slipped through his fingers while he tried desperately to hold himself together.

I forced myself forward despite the agony tearing through my body.

With a roar, I slammed my boot into his stomach. The impact dropped him onto his back.

I grabbed a fistful of the intestines spilling from the wound and punched him across the face with my other hand.

The elf hit the dirt hard. I climbed on top of him immediately. Just like that day.

Then I started hitting him.

My fist smashed into his face once, splitting his lip open instantly. The second punch broke his nose sideways with a wet crunch. Blood sprayed across my knuckles and chest.

He tried to push me off. I punched him again. And again.

Teeth broke loose beneath my fist and scattered across the dirt. One of his eyes swelled shut almost immediately while blood poured across his cheeks and into his hair.

I kept going.

His head snapped side to side under the impacts. Skin split across his forehead. His jaw cracked loud enough for me to hear it over the screaming around us.

"Fuck you!" I screamed while driving another punch into his ruined face.

By the time I stopped, his features barely looked human anymore.

Blood covered both my hands. The elf stopped moving.

I hit him one last time anyway. Then I finally stopped.

Panting violently, I planted both hands against his chest and pushed myself upright. My vision blurred while I turned toward the arena.

The students stared in horror. The Queen stared at me silently. The remaining elves looked shaken for the first time since the attack began.

Then the golden barrier vanished. Right... this fucking arena probably ’thought’ we were just two teams, fighting each other. So the barrier disappeared automatically.

"KILL THE ELVES!" Thornhawk roared. "PROTECT THE QUEEN!"

I let myself collapse onto the dirt again.

Everything hurt.

My shoulder burned. My ribs ached. My entire body felt heavy and distant. Blood loss, exhaustion, mana drain... all of it crashed into me at once.

The sky above the academy blurred while I struggled just to breathe.

The healers rushed toward me. Warm light spread across my body as their healing magic worked through my injuries. The pain slowly dulled, though the broken blade lodged inside my shoulder still hurt badly enough to make my stomach twist.

While the healers worked, I leaned slightly and looked toward the Queen. She was holding the dead elf’s dagger in her hand, her wounded palm already restored by healing magic.

"Give me the dagger," I muttered.

The Queen frowned slightly. "What?"

I reached forward before she could question me further and took the dagger from her hand. Then I flipped the weapon around and pressed the tip carefully against the wound in my shoulder.

One of the healers immediately panicked. "Wait, don’t..."

I shoved the dagger into the wound.

Pain exploded through my arm so violently that my vision blurred for a second. I clenched my teeth hard enough that my jaw hurt, but I kept pushing. The dagger eventually scraped against the broken blade lodged inside my shoulder.

"There..." I hissed.

Using the dagger like a lever, I forced the broken piece upward little by little until enough of the blade became visible. Sweat poured down my face while the healers stared at me like I had gone insane.

Once the metal finally rose high enough, I dropped the dagger onto the dirt and grabbed the exposed blade with my fingers.

Then I ripped it out.

"UUUUGH... fuck!" I gasped as blood spilled down my arm again.

I threw the broken blade aside and collapsed back against the dirt, breathing heavily while the healers immediately moved to close the wound with magic.

"Okay," I panted. "Okay. Okay... fuck... okay. Okay."

Yeah, well, it wasn’t okay. Because when I tried to push myself up, the last thing I remember was just the blue sky, a bird flying from the side... and then boom. Nothing. Darkness.

Something heavy pressed down on my chest. It felt like a car had parked on top of me and was slowly crushing the air out of my lungs. I forced my eyes open, trying to understand where I was, but the pills my mother had shoved down my throat the night before were still tearing through my system. Everything looked smeared together. My vision swam so badly that the ceiling melted into the walls. My ears rang nonstop, drowning the world beneath a high, painful whine.

Then I saw a face leaning over me.

Even through the blur, I recognized those eyes immediately.

My mother.

Those hollow, lifeless eyes stared down at me without warmth, without comfort, without anything human left inside them. They looked empty and feverish at the same time.

This is an incredibly intense, dark scene. To really nail that sense of visceral, psychological horror, we need to focus on a few key things: increasing the claustrophobia of Ace’s paralysis, making the mother’s erratic shifts in tone feel even more unpredictable, and leaning heavily into sensory details (the smells, the wet sounds, the suffocating atmosphere) before the strange, alien intervention happens.

Here is a revised version of your scene, dialed up to maximize the psychological desperation and dread:

"Ace," she whispered, her breath hot against my ear. "My good boy."

"M-Mommy..."

"You’ve been talking to the new neighbor, haven’t you?" She purred, her fingers gently tracing my jawline. "That little girl is the same age as you, right?"

"Mom... mommy..."

"They are spies." The purr vanished, replaced instantly by a sharp, panicked hiss. Her eyes widened, staring at the wall as if she could see through it. "They were sent by the government. They want to take you away from me, Ace. They want to steal my baby."

"I... can’t... brea... I..."

"Why talk to the girl?" She murmured, the panic evaporating into a sickeningly sweet smile. She pressed a tender, lingering kiss to my cheek. "Oh, I know. You’re coming to ’that’ age, huh? Of course you are."

"Mommy... help... I can’t see..." The world was dissolving into a terrifying, gray blur. My limbs felt like lead, pinned beneath her weight.

"Don’t worry." She kissed my forehead, her hand sliding down my chest, heavy and burning, until it rested on my stomach. "I’ll handle everything. Every. Little. Thing."

"Uh..."

Then, she dug her fingers in.

She didn’t just push; she squeezed the soft flesh of my stomach, burying her gripping fingers deep into my abdomen. It hurt, a white-hot, agonizing pain that bloomed through my entire body, but the paralysis kept the scream trapped in my throat, vibrating uselessly. I couldn’t see it, but I could hear the wet, tearing sound of her fingernails puncturing skin, followed by the sickening warmth of blood pooling across my stomach.

Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed in the quiet room.

"NO!" My mother shrieked, snatching her hand back. She stared at her bleeding index finger. "Y-you... you broke my nail... no, no, no, no!"

She bolted off my chest, suddenly abandoning me. The sudden rush of oxygen hit my lungs, making me gasp weakly. On the floor beside the bed, she began rocking back and forth, tearing at her own hair, her weeping turning into a hysterical, rhythmic chant.

"You won’t accept me?" She looked up, her face a mask of tear-streaked fury. "Just like your father, huh? You think I’m crazy? You think your mommy is crazy?!"

Before I could even blink, she lunged. She yanked me upward by my hair, my limp, useless body dangling like a ragdoll, and drove her fist straight into my face. The impact threw me headfirst off the bed. My nose cracked against the floorboards, and the metallic taste of blood instantly flooded my mouth.

Before I could even process the pain, she flipped me onto my back, pinning my shoulders with her knees.

"Accept me. Accept me. Accept me. ACCEPT ME! ACCEPT ME!"

She shoved her fingers down my throat.

"You won’t accept my love?" She looked up, her face a mask of tear-streaked fury. "Just like your father, huh? You think I’m crazy? You want to leave me for that little bitch next door? You think your mommy isn’t enough for you?!"

I gagged violently, the violent thrust of her hand forcing up a bitter wave of bile. I tried to lift my hand, tried to fight, but my muscles only twitched uselessly. The edges of my vision turned completely black, the air cut off entirely as she shoved her hand deeper, choking me with her bare skin.

With her free hand, she ripped my t-shirt upward, exposing the raw, bleeding punctures on my stomach, and began to blindly tear at the wounds again.

"No, no, no... let me, please. Ace, I’m so alone..." she sobbed, her voice breaking into a pathetic, desperate wail. Then, the grief flipped into pure malice. "Please, please, please! PLEASE! FUCKING PLEASE YOU FUCKING IDIOT! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! FUCKING DIE!"

I stared up at her through the suffocating gray haze. Her face was the stuff of nightmares, eyes stretched so wide the whites showed all around the irises, tears streaming down her cheeks, while her mouth was curled into a wide, joyful grin. She was entirely gone.

My lungs burned. My heart fluttered like a dying bird. This was usually where the nightmare broke, where my mind would mercifully cut to black.

But the darkness didn’t come. This would... usually where this nightmare ended.
