When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds
Chapter 240: Lu Wen 27
Tan You was able to rest after the interview ended, but Zhu Lin and her colleagues could not. They had to transcribe the interview and send the article back home as quickly as possible. After all, they were the only ones who had landed an exclusive with the entire film crew, which was a major career accomplishment and added to their credentials.
While Zhu Lin and the others were busy editing and finalizing the article, the photographer was gushing over Tan You’s photos. "Can we really not include a few more? She’s just too beautiful; it’s hard to pick the single best one."
Zhu Lin took a quick break from her work to glance over. "She’s always beautiful. I think any of them would work. But I like this one..."
Seeing that Zhu Lin had picked the same one, the photographer smiled. "This one’s my favorite, too. See how her outfits are always so simple? Yet you just can’t take your eyes off her. You feel like you could look at her forever. I guess that’s what they mean when they say some people are just endlessly captivating."
Zhu Lin said, "Of course. I’m almost done here. Send me the photos. I’ll just reformat them and send them back home."
Brother Chen replied, "Alright, sending them now. Once that’s done, can we go back to our rooms and get some rest? We’ve been up all night... I’m so tired I can barely keep my eyes open."
Zhu Lin ruthlessly shot down his suggestion. "We’re leaving with Lu Wen’s crew. I’m going to find a way to get Lu Wen on our show for an interview."
Brother Chen gave her a thumbs-up. "Impressive! Fine, but I really can’t stay awake any longer. I’m going to catch a quick nap. Wake me when it’s time to leave. If we manage to get Lu Wen on our show, that’ll be a massive score for us."
But you couldn’t see a hint of fatigue in Zhu Lin. Her entire focus was on the work ahead; the busier she became, the more intense the fire in her eyes grew.
That evening, Tan You wasn’t the least bit surprised to run into Zhu Lin’s group at the airport. They were all sharp people; how could Tan You not see what Zhu Lin was after? So when Zhu Lin extended the invitation, Tan You accepted it on the spot without hesitation.
The state media outlet moved with lightning speed. No sooner had Tan You endured a flight of over ten hours and stepped out of the airport than everyone was whisked away to the television station.
Zhu Lin looked a bit apologetic. "I originally wanted to let you all get some proper rest, but you’re in the spotlight right now, and everyone is very curious about you."
Since she had already agreed, Tan You didn’t complain. She just smiled and said, "I get it. We’ll have plenty of time to rest later. Your show is more important."
The smile on Zhu Lin’s face deepened. "Great. Thank you for your cooperation."
Because Tan You and her team’s award wins and their return home were so sudden, the production team even adjusted their broadcast schedule to get their interview on the air as soon as possible.
When Tan You heard the news from Zhu Lin, she was a little surprised. "Is that really appropriate? They bumped a huge, long-established movie star and other famous celebrities. That doesn’t seem right, does it?"
"There’s nothing wrong with it. It was the directors’ decision," Zhu Lin said with a smile. "We need to seize the opportunity. What if another show managed to interview you first?"
"I’m not doing any other shows," Tan You admitted frankly. "I’ve just been resting at home since I got back from the station yesterday. I’m still not over the jet lag, and besides, I don’t really like doing shows."
That was exactly what Zhu Lin wanted to hear. "In that case, get some rest. Your interview officially airs tonight at eight. Director Qi is on tomorrow, followed by the rest of the crew."
Tan You imagined the scenario. "Won’t everyone get tired of seeing us? Will they get annoyed? Why feature our people for several days in a row?"
"Definitely not," Zhu Lin said in a lighthearted tone. "The artists at your company are a lot like you. Even Wan Yi, who seems the most energetic, is actually very low-key and rarely appears on camera. It’s like they pour all their energy into their work and don’t pay much attention to things like online buzz."
"But that’s the only way for them to truly develop their craft and deliver better work," Tan You said matter-of-factly. "Think about it—of all the people who are constantly in front of a camera, how many of them can actually act?"
Zhu Lin replied, "Perhaps. Once you’re rested up, want to grab a meal together?"
Tan You agreed, "Sure. Let’s be in touch."
After hanging up with Zhu Lin, Tan You’s phone rang again. A smile touched her eyes when she saw the caller’s name. "Why are you calling me at this hour?"
Ji Mingxi’s voice was clear and carried well. "I just wanted to congratulate you! I was in a training camp for the past few days and only finished recording today. I knew you were nominated, but I had no idea you’d win so many awards."
"Shoo, get lost! I’m on the phone with my Sister Wen. What are you all crowding around here for?" Ji Mingxi said, shoving away his eavesdropping bandmates in annoyance, his voice full of smug pride.
Tan You chuckled and greeted Ji Mingxi’s colleagues one by one. They hadn’t lost contact over the past few years, and with Ji Mingxi as the link between them, they were all quite familiar with one another.
"Were you filming a show? You look a little tan," she commented.
Ji Mingxi sounded pleased. "Yeah. A little tan is good. I can’t be a pretty boy my whole life."
"Sis, I have a few days off. Can I come hang out? I want to congratulate you in person, too."
Of course, Tan You wouldn’t stop him. "Come on over if you want. But are you sure you’re coming to congratulate me, and not to see Sister Li?"
Ji Mingxi got flustered. "Sister Wen..."
Tan You continued, "I won’t meddle in your affairs, but you need to think this through. If Sister Li does agree to be with you, she can’t just pack up and go back with you. I have too much on my plate here; I can’t manage without her."
Ji Mingxi’s tone turned serious. "I understand, and I’ve already thought it through. When the time comes, it’ll depend on what Sister Li wants."
A smile touched Tan You’s eyes. "Alright. It’s best to say these things in person anyway."
The moment Ji Mingxi hung up, he was swarmed by his bandmates. "You’re holding out on us, man! Who’s this Sister Li? Have we met her?"
Pinned at the bottom of the pile, Ji Mingxi rolled his eyes. "Of course you haven’t met her. Sister Li isn’t a public figure. She’s the person Sister Wen trusts most to help her manage the company."
Their leader asked probingly, "Are you two together?"
Ji Mingxi sprawled on the sofa. "I wish. But I haven’t even confessed yet. I can’t believe Sister Wen saw right through me. That’s Sister Wen for you."
"Tch, you’re not even together yet? I thought you’d already made it official," the youngest member said, getting off of Ji Mingxi. "And to think I was getting so excited. Brother Mingxi, do you have a picture of Sister Li?"
Ji Mingxi couldn’t fend them off. "Fine, I’ll show you, alright? See? Isn’t she gorgeous?"
He had quite a few photos of Sister Li on his phone. Tan You was a total homebody, but Sister Li was not. Sister Li was the one who attended almost all of the company’s events, so you could easily find lots of photos of her online.
Although Sister Li wasn’t as strikingly beautiful as a celebrity, she had a very unique presence—the unmistakable air of a powerful career woman. Of course, she had no shortage of suitors, but she had always been too busy to give them any thought.
