Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 1398 - 871: The Advancing Demon Clan (Part 2)
However, at that moment, Hevi suddenly noticed something was off.
The gaze of the Demon Clan looked unusual.
Only a few members of the Demon Clan had the glint of intelligent beings in their eyes, while the majority had eyes that were dull and even foolish!
"Those are demons transformed by the Fallen Demon Egg!"
Hevi's face turned red with rage, and Fingerley's fist clenched even tighter.
The existence of the Fallen Demon Egg had long been made public by Ainz III, King of the Yanor Kingdom, and it was no longer a secret. People had heard of these eggs that forcibly transform normal humans into evil Demon Clans.
This was the first time the rebel army had witnessed creatures transformed by the Fallen Demon Egg, which was enough to make them determined to eradicate the Demon Clan!
Closer, the Demon Clan was approaching the edge of the Magic Sky Curtain, about to step in.
But just then, Hevi's attention was drawn to the back of the Demon Clan.
He saw a demon covered in insect-like armor, resembling a cockroach standing upright, nodding its head towards him and revealing a creepy smile.
In that smile, he sensed a malevolent intent.
At that moment, the Demon Clan had stepped into the optimal attack range of the Magic Sky Curtain. Bombarding now could ensure that almost all of their forces were hit by magic.
Hevi instinctively waved his hand, issuing the command to release the attack.
The colorless Magic Sky Curtain, which blended with the sky, was instantly filled with various colors of magic. The next moment, the amplified Fireball Technique transformed into a Meteor Fire Rain, carrying lava that smashed down on the Demon Clan, creating a spectacular scene akin to a volcanic eruption.
The pure Demon Clan within their ranks suddenly retreated to the rear in unison, moving with such speed it was clear it was premeditated.
In the next moment, they vanished!
Hevi hadn't even had time to see clearly when the fireballs made of lava crashed down, engulfing the battlefield in dust from the explosion.
"Keep going, don't stop! They aren't that easy to kill!" Fingerley's voice rang out as the magicians continued to operate the Magic Sky Curtain.
A Frost Storm then rose over the blazing plains following the Meteor Fire Rain. Towering tornadoes carrying green poison mixed into the blizzard, and fiery red vines sprouted from the ground...
The scene looked as if several Great Mages, skilled in different fields, were casting spells together, and every member of the rebel army was coated in a high concentration of magic power, with some finding it hard to breathe.
The Magic Sky Curtain wasn't omnipotent; the energy stored within it would rapidly deplete when casting consecutive spells. If it could continuously cast spells without consumption, then only the legendary Magic God could achieve such a feat.
Even though the Magic Sky Curtain had its energy limits, few creatures could survive such an intense magical bombardment. Not even the Demon Clan...
"Stop!"
Just as the Magic Sky Curtain had enough energy for two or three more enhanced spells, both Fingerley and Hevi ordered a halt.
Once the order to stop was given, the Magic Sky Curtain quickly faded, blending back into the sky as if it had never appeared, though the spells on the ground had yet to end.
"Why did we stop, why not finish them off in one go?" the Golden Bishop asked in confusion, as releasing all the magic at once seemed safer.
Hevi and Fingerley exchanged a look, understanding each other's thoughts without words.
It was clear the Demon Clan hadn't attacked on a whim to massacre a human city; they came prepared!
Did the Magic Sky Curtain factor into their plan? Perhaps the rebellion within the rebel army earlier had nothing to do with the Holy Light Church and was orchestrated by the Demon Clan.
So, what was their goal?
Fingerley suddenly thought of something unique to Hepa Town.
"Sain Dungeon!?"
The aftermath of the destruction caused by various magics dissipated, leaving the once scenic plains pitted and barren, with the strong magical residue likely causing plant mutations.
The soldiers defending the city quickly looked towards the Demon Clan's position, hoping to see a scene of demon bodies scattered everywhere, rather than—
"They're still alive?"
The soldiers were in an uproar, unable to describe what they saw.
At the Demon Clan's location, one after another, black spheres appeared?
These spheres shimmered with a glossy black sheen, looking immensely durable; even after enduring fire, ice, and storms, they remained intact.
The broken debris around them indicated that not all could withstand magical attacks, but the number that survived was astonishing!
Cracks suddenly appeared on the surface of these black spheres, and the next moment, the foolish-eyed demons jumped out, hopping and celebrating their survival!
The components that made up the surfaces of these black spheres were hidden within their mutated flesh, ready to emerge and form a defensive posture when needed!
"This, how is this possible?" The Golden Bishop stepped back a few paces, shocked by the scene before him.
It's widely known that no two Demon Clans looked alike, being a mixture of various creatures, each with unique features.
But now, right in front of them.
These demons, once human before their transformation by the Fallen Demon Egg, surprisingly exhibited a common body structure of the "black sphere"!
Such a discovery could potentially overturn some scholars' conclusions!
Fingerley's face darkened, recalling something an old friend once told him.
"The Demon Clan is evolving; although slowly, extraordinary individuals will inevitably appear, and we need to be prepared in advance."
Dal had told him this a few months ago, as a member of the Fran Guard who fought demons everywhere, and his words were surely true.
This had drawn the attention of several lords, initiating a wave of purging monsters, though the evolution he mentioned wasn't discovered.
Now, Fingerley could confirm that what Dal had said was true.
Had this group of transformed demons evolved to possess defenses strong enough to resist the Magic Sky Curtain? These were once mere fodder among the transformed Demon Clan!
Their defense might even rival a giant dragon! The rebel army might have limited means to break through!
Hevi ordered the bombardment to continue, this time using different attribute magic to test if the demon's shells could withstand all kinds of magical attacks.
Yet there was no response from the magicians inside the city wall, who were responsible for controlling the Magic Sky Curtain.
A sense of foreboding rose in Hevi, and he quickly grabbed the communication device, only to hear the sounds of fierce battle and demon roars from the magicians' end.
Had the Demon Clan infiltrated!?
Beside him, Tusi immediately led others to assist within the city walls, while the commanders temporarily abandoned the Magic Sky Curtain, switching to directing the soldiers to use cannons and crossbows to confront the demons.
However, ordinary cannons wielded far less power than the Magic Sky Curtain. Could they really be effective against these monsters?
The crossbow arrows shot across the sky toward the demons, who lifted arms embedded with black armor to block them, even as the soldiers who fired felt unsure of their attacks.
But.
"Crack!"
The shell collided with a crossbow arrow and shattered!
"Huh?"
The soldiers exclaimed in surprise. How could their crossbows exceed magic in power?
Before they could feel excited, they witnessed something even more bizarre.
The demon struck by the crossbow arrow softened and expelled the fragment with a "pop."
After standing up, its body was back to normal.
Even Fingerley couldn't help but widen his eyes.
Magic Immunity and... Physical Immunity!?
