Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 1408 - 876: Epilogue (2)
Even considering safety concerns, they don't really want to stay in Scameroon. It's already evening, and if they wait a few more hours past midnight, they can enter Sain Dungeon again. Anyway, sleeping by Lake Lienia would be more reassuring than staying in Hepa Town.
Fingerley didn't insist on keeping them; too many complex things happened today, and quite a few messes need cleaning up. The adventurers' priorities had no choice but to be pushed back.
In the middle of the night, the Fran Guards returned riding giant wolves, bearing the marks of slight injuries. From their dissatisfied expressions, it's likely they encountered something less than pleasant outside.
Upon returning, the Fran Guards began to spread knowledge about the Demon Clan among the adventurers, especially on how to battle them. Due to today's experiences, even Maru, who usually couldn't sit still for lectures, listened intently.
As for Dal, he went directly to find the leaders of the rebel army.
A soldier guided him to the still intact meeting room, and with Hevi's consent, Dal entered inside.
Hevi, Fingerley, Wilderness Bishop, Golden Bishop, and other assassins were gathered inside discussing today's events and how to handle them. Hevi motioned for Dal to sit first, to talk about issues later.
The rebel army agreed to let Dal into such an internal meeting due to the reputation of the Fran Guards, and today's events did indeed have close ties to the Demon Clan.
"At first, we thought this was an attack from the Holy Light Church because intelligence showed they were using a magic tool that aids missionary work. If that tool's intensity were slightly increased, its effect would be akin to brainwashing. I thought our people were controlled by similar means."
Hevi's fingers tapped the table intermittently.
"But now it seems this is the work of the Demon Clan."
"Why can't it be the Holy Light Church colluding with the Demon Clan?"
When Wilderness Bishop said this, others looked at him with surprise; it was simply too ridiculous.
As everyone knows, even though the Holy Light Church is rigid, corrupt, super-arrogant, and ignorant, its stance has always firmly stood on the side of humanity, fighting against the Demon Clan since its inception, and to this day it contributes efforts to help resist Demonic invasions.
There are countless criticisms towards the Holy Light Church, but collusion with the Demon Clan is definitely impossible.
"But that was the old Holy Light Church, wasn't it? Who knows what the current Pope and bishops are thinking?" Wilderness Bishop said seriously: "What if a Fallen Demon Egg is in their hands?"
To suspect someone has allied themselves with the Demon Clan, saying they might possibly possess a Fallen Demon Egg could serve as an accusation since this item is indeed well-hidden.
Even the most advanced current detection techniques for Demon Clans show no reaction towards the Fallen Demon Egg unless it is directly sighted by the naked eye; it's nearly impossible to search and find one on someone.
"This still can't form the critical evidence needed, especially when the controlled soldiers have no trace of Holy Light on them. They were manipulated by brainwash magic."
Fingerley rebutted. Though he disliked the Holy Light Church, he couldn't be rash.
"Since you say it's brainwash magic, then who cast it?" Golden Bishop asked at that moment.
"If someone instantly brainwashed so many people, then the magician must exceed the Great Mage level. They could kill us in an instant, why bother brainwashing soldiers? If it was slow brainwashing gathering bit by bit, it would prove massive infiltration within us, certainly an inside mole!"
Everyone knew what Golden Bishop's words meant; it implied that there were traitors within the rebel army.
Who would believe a magician stronger than a Great Mage orchestrated against the rebel army?
Such a figure's existence in the world is uncertain.
The debate among everyone was endless, and ultimately they couldn't determine whether it was the Demon Clan or another force brainwashing the soldiers, so they turned their attention to another matter. ๐ป๐โฏโฏ๐ค๐๐๐๐ฐ๐๐๐.๐ธ๐๐ฎ
"Why did the Demon Clan attack us?"
This was the puzzle Hevi and the others couldn't figure out.
In terms of hatred, attacking cities controlled by the Holy Light Church would be more reasonable; considering location, Hepa Town surrounded by other rebel-controlled cities seemed insignificant; talking about special products... don't tell me they were after Sain Dungeon.
Everything considered their motives seemed irrational.
Moreover, what the pure-blood Demons did, transforming Demon Clan members, remains mystifying.
"They took all the supplies from the west side arsenal; there stored conventional weapons and a batch of temporary military needs brought in a few days ago," Fingerley said with a strange complexion, "The items produced in Sain Dungeon are stored on the east side warehouse."
The final discussion outcome... naturally had no conclusion.
They could only report back and enhance vigilance against the Demon Clan.
The news about Demon Clan rioting can be exchanged with the Three Great Religions. Although ignoring and watching them fall to the Demon Clan attacks would indeed benefit the rebel army, how could the inter-human wars be manipulated by demons?
"The demon clan is plotting a conspiracy."
In the end, Dal revealed the pre-prepared Image Stone for public display, showing the scene where they battled the Hydra formed from black mud.
The eerie appearance of the black mud made everyone present furrow their brows tightly.
"The demon clan actually came up with something like this? Are they trying to imitate Abyss?" Hevi exhaled heavily; nothing is more unsettling than seeing the enemy species involved in unknown plots.
"The demon clan has always been learning and evolving. The transformations seen today are the best examples. Previously, I have seen these traits in two types of Demons. This time the carapace and liquification appeared simultaneously, in less than two months' time." Dal spoke in a calm tone.
This calm tone, at this moment, seemed exceptionally oppressive, conjuring up visions of the ever-strengthening future of the Demon Clan's evolution; the faces of Wilderness Bishop and others turned unfavorable.
"We have been warning every country and city, but few truly pay attention, fundamentally because they haven't witnessed the terror of an evolved Demon Clan."
Dal took out a bag of Image Stones, each recording footage of this battle.
"If you agree, I would like to publicly reveal these images. Seeing them might awaken those nations."
"Hmm...."
Hevi and others exchanged glances.
After discussions, the rebel army agreed to reveal these images, but they must be edited to exclude sensitive content.
The rebel army and Fran Guards will spread the news of today's events at Hepa Town, to warn everyone on the continent that demon clans lurk close by, ready to riot without warning and reason, making them hard to guard against.
As for the Demon Clan's purpose in attacking Hepa Town today, it can only be tentatively concluded as targeting military supplies there, or simply arising from irrational bloodlust behaviors.
In the following weeks, the rebel army will focus on recovery.
And as for the adventurers emerging from Sain Dungeon...
Ending the meeting, Hevi checked the time; it was past midnight, but lively sounds came from outside.
He opened the door to look.
He saw adventurers bringing out various items from Sain Dungeon, fragrant food, drinks, life-saving medicines, and even a phonograph playing music, almost forming a grand feast around the Teleportation Gate!
Hevi was dumbfounded but turned to see adventurers selflessly sharing food and medicine with rebel soldiers. The soldiers, previously dispirited from battle, caught the festive spirit, gradually smiling.
The adventurers could very well leave without a word, yet they chose to return to Scameroon with supplies. Surveying the scene, it seemed they did so specifically to aid the rebel soldiers.
Based on feedback from the scene, these actions proved effective; adventurers truly possess unparalleled talent in creating warmth.
Hevi watched this scene, thought it over, then smiled and said:
"Adventurers may freely stay here. We will reserve a place for them."
