World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 17: Next Necessity: Food
Leon had stayed the night in the female dormitory, only getting a few hours of sleep. By 4am in the morning, the eleven survivors had all woken up.
At first, they were confused, but after seeing Leon and the absence of spiders, they realized he was the one who had rescued them.
Immediately, every single one of them burst into tears and began thanking him.
After all, they had eyes and could see the condition of the other students who had died in the spider webs.
"That’s enough. Get your largest bags and start packing clothes from the other rooms. We’re leaving as soon as the sun rises."
Leaving the girls with that information, he scoured the other rooms and finally found some snacks to satiate his hunger.
’Usually, I’d have been very weak by now. But I guess leveling up lessens body requirements for food?’
He thought to himself as he opened a bottle of water and drank from it.
He glanced at Thyra who was sitting at the bed in the room, skimming through some random girl’s diary with a smile.
’She looks so idle.’
Placing the water bottle back into the fridge, he looked outside. The sun was already rising.
"Alright, Thyra. We’re leaving."
The two of them left the room, then gathered up the survivors loaded with bags of clothes.
Finally, they all stepped out of the dormitory. The air stank with the smell of rotten flesh and corpses, causing the girls to grow pale.
Leon was indifferent to it all, as he had been the cause for the killings that happened here.
When they passed by the Tier One Evolved spider’s corpse, he noticed how their expressions morphed into something akin to terror.
"Seems like they were personally handled by that spider."
Thyra chuckled and remarked casually, earning a glance from Leon.
He was the only one who could see her, so he didn’t bother replying to her. Lest he was considered to have run mad.
Suddenly, Thyra’s gaze pierced through the faint morning fog and she raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? She came looking for you?"
"?" Leon was confused until he saw the silhouette of Selene rapidly coming their way.
When she noticed the group, she slowed down for a moment, then stopped. Her icy blue eyes scanned the group of twelve students carefully, before she turned back to the only male in the group.
"Why didn’t you come back yesterday?"
Her voice was cold and frosty, giving off the pressure of a superior.
A faint frown appeared on Leon’s lips.
"They were unconscious. Or do you expect me to bring them over one by one?"
Selene was about to retort when she caught sight of the sea of corpses behind them.
Her pupils shrank into pins, and her hair stood on end.
"These...?"
Leon noticed her gaze, but didn’t look back. Instead, he just walked past her and said.
"Dead. Let’s go."
Although the silver-haired girl wanted to investigate, it was too risky and unnecessary so she followed the group back.
When they got close to the field house, they were surprised to find Samson and the other two also looking for them.
"Goodness, Selene! You should have told me before leaving."
Gwen complained, hugging the girl and patting her back.
Selene let her be for a few seconds, then pushed her off.
"I’m fine. I only went to check on the situation at the hostel."
At her words, everyone’s attention returned to the rescued students and Leon.
Samson came over and patted the boy’s shoulder.
"You really did a great job rescuing these damsels. You deserve a vodka."
Leon ignored the man’s remark entirely, instead walking straight towards the field house.
"Continue the pleasantries when we get inside."
The four evolvers in the group glanced at each other and followed after him. He was right. Staying outside was still dangerous.
Finally, the group returned to the field house, and the rescued girls were integrated with the other survivors.
The clothes and dresses were shared, finally dispelling the gloom in the building.
Most of the ladies cast appreciative glances at Leon, but he barely reacted to them. Several of these students and lecturers were beautiful and hot. But they were nothing compared to the demon who stuck with him now.
So, Leon could confidently say he wasn’t impressed. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Leon returned to his private room, where he could finally have a moment of rest.
With two of the three necessities cleared, everyone in the field house continued to adapt to their new lives.
Three days passed in a flash, and the evolvers finally had another meeting.
Leon was the last person to arrive at the table, so the meeting commenced the moment he took his seat.
As usual, Selene was the first to speak. "Just like I estimated before, the food we have would be exhausted this evening once we share dinner. We’ll no longer have anything to cook again."
The table was silent, as everyone was already aware of this.
Gwen placed her hands on the table and spoke.
"Naturally, we’ll be going to the restaurants to get the bags of rice and all. But... the issue is that we can’t carry them by ourselves, can we?"
Reymond and Samson shook their heads while Leon remained impassive.
Selene took it up and continued. "You’re right. We’ll be needing the assistance of these guys if we want to do something meaningful."
She cast a glance at the other students who were huddled together and discussing in hushed voices.
Several of them were still hopeful that the government would come and rescue them with armor tanks and machine guns, but that clearly hollow hope.
"We have no choice then. Although it’ll be hard protecting them all, we don’t have a choice."
Samson shrugged, rubbing the space between his eyebrows.
Before they came to a consensus, Leon finally spoke.
"While I do agree to your plans, there should be some changes."
Gwen blinked and looked at him. "What changes are you suggesting, Leon?"
After three days of interacting, they could be considered acquaintances. From their little chats, Leon learnt that she had been in the field house when the apocalypse started, and had helped Samson kill a few zombies, earning her an ability scroll.
Leon met her gaze calmly.
"There would be those unwilling to venture outside with us. For them, they’ll only be receiving the smallest and lowest quality of food."
"As for those who will be going with us, they’ll be having better food and access to protein like eggs or meat. Anyone who is unwilling to work can survive with the bare minimum."
"I’m not here to shoulder the burden of some dead-weights."
