World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 22: Where is he? (Again)
The zombies rushed at the restaurant with vigor, as if someone or something had informed them about the high population of humans inside the building.
However, it wasn’t going to be so easy. The instant they came close, a lone person attacked them.
A black greatsword made of stone smashed through the frontline, killing several zombies and crippling more.
Messages flowed before Leon’s eyes but he barely registered them. He switched to holding the weapon with both hands, then swung left and right as fast as he could.
The heavy stone blade tore through the zombie flesh, slicing them into gory pieces or bursting their heads like balloons.
As more zombies poured in, wider than he could cover, Leon jumped back to create some distance.
"Gwen! Now!"
As soon as his voice dropped, arrows rained down from the roof, intercepting the zombies that were too distanced and were trying to bypass him.
Her arrows were ordinary, so the zombies she killed were very few. Zombies didn’t possess souls, only a rotten brain with a bit of consciousness.
Therefore, her ability to inflict damages on the soul was practically useless. She could only try to kill them with her sharp archery skills.
Leon took a moment to study the situation, then dived back into combat.
This time, he didn’t just fight with the greatsword alone. In the middle of the zombie pack, he constantly created shadow spears to pop out and skewer them into pieces.
His proficiency had greatly increased, and the Handy Bracelet helped him to control his mana more carefully, avoiding excessive waste of mana.
Soon, beads of sweat began to form on his forehead. A wry smile crossed his lips.
’Multitasking is really a hassle, damn.’
Groaning inwardly, he tore through some zombies, shredding them into pieces. If it was a week ago, he’d have been freaked out.
But now, his heart was steady even as he caused a carnage.
’!!!’
Suddenly, he noticed something move past him in a blur, speeding straight at the restaurant.
Leon didn’t hesitate. He abandoned the frontline and chased after the fast zombie.
To his shock, it was faster than him. Leon gritted his teeth and controlled the shadow of a bus parked nearby.
The shadows rose and blocked the zombie’s path. Unable to dodge in time, it crashed through the wall.
The shadow wall was broken apart without much effort, but it inevitably delayed the zombie.
Leon closed the gap instantly, finally catching a glimpse of the zombie’s figure.
It was dark. Incredibly dark in a way that made it seem like it wasn’t human before.
It had longer arms, with sharp claws that resembled scythes of a grim reaper.
Leon caught all these details in an instant, and jumped over the zombie. Raising his weapon, he brought it down on the creature fiercely.
The dark zombie turned around in a flash, its yellow eyes wide. It immediately crossed its lengthy claws before its chest, and Leon’s greatsword landed immediately after.
Bang!
The zombie was slammed into the ground, while Leon used the hit to flip over it, placing himself between it and the restaurant.
The zombie immediately sprang up, looking unharmed.
Leon’s eyes hardened, wondering what those claws were made of. Mythril? Vibranium?
Raising his blade, he studied the zombie carefully, just as it was studying him.
’It’s faster than me, and I can barely keep up with its speed.’
His brows locked, wondering how he could defeat his enemy. The thought of adding his free stat points into his agility crossed his mind, but he didn’t want that.
He only reserved the remaining points for an emergency where there was no hope. The current situation was bleak, though.
Behind the dark zombies, the ordinary zombies were still coming, and they would close the distance in less than a minute.
Leon racked his brain for any possible solution, but he couldn’t come up with any idea.
Suddenly, he felt a burst of cold wind, and a flash of lightning at the rear of the zombie pack.
’Oh, those two.’
At the same time, Samson stepped out of the restaurant with a grim expression.
"What in heaven’s name is that?"
He glared at the zombie, then turned to Leon. "Boy, can you handle that thing? I can tell that it’s stronger than me. I’ll handle the horde."
Leon locked eyes with him briefly, then nodded.
He turned back to the dark zombie, then dashed at it.
The zombie immediately pivoted to the side, knowing it couldn’t compete with him in strength.
Naturally, Leon wouldn’t let it do as it pleased. Before he even reached it, two walls of shadows rose on both sides of the zombie, stalling its dodge.
Leon turned just in time, swinging his greatsword so it caught the zombie by its arm.
GRAHHH-!
The zombie cried out in pain and retreated. Leon didn’t let up and chased after it with a vicious expression.
Soon, the two of them had moved to a different location not far from the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Samson and Gwen faced the aggro of the remaining zombies, holding the frontline with fragile balance.
At the rear, Selene and Reymond plowed through the zombies with urgency, directly expending their mana for greater results and faster killing speed.
"These zombies are definitely being controlled by something."
Selene gritted her teeth in frustration, unleasing several sharp icicles at the zombies at once.
Because the zombies were focused on reaching the restaurant, they completely ignored the duo, resulting in the death of those at the rear.
As Reymond’s blade cleaned a zombie into two little hot knife through butter, he chuckled.
"Or perhaps, they don’t just like our meat."
His words were supposed to lighten the mood, but all he earned from Selene was a glare.
Finally, after they had killed over two hundred zombies and leveled up two to three times, they could catch a glimpse of the situation at the front.
Samson had already been pushed to the front corridor of the restaurant, his axe cleaving through the zombies non-stop. Yet, more kept replacing the ones that he had killed.
"Fuck!"
He stomped his foot on the ground and directly rammed into the zombies while using his weapon to behead a few at the front.
Several claws scratched his body but failed to deal any wounds, proving that his skin was strong enough to resist their sharp claws.
Selene assessed his condition and sighed in relief. At least he wasn’t dead yet, and the zombies hadn’t entered the restaurant.
Immediately after, her brows furrowed.
There was no sign of Leon. Had he ditched them?
