Chapter 29: Ruthless Leon

The basketball court was silent, and everyone had paused whatever they were doing, staring at Josh as he threatened to hurt Fel.

Leon shook his head softly.

"It isn’t advisable you do that."

John tensed up a bit, glaring at him fiercely. "What now? You’re scared? Huh? Aren’t you guys special? Then how come I’m restraining one of you?"

Leon sighed, then stood up.

He slowly walked towards him, hands in his pockets and posture relaxed. Behind him, he could sense Selene’s cold gaze as she wondered how he’d save the girl.

"Do you think you can kill her?" He asked as he walked closer.

Josh’s grip on the girl tightened, his eyes revealing a fierce light. "I can. You don’t want to try me."

Leon nodded, agreeing with him. "However, you will not."

The guy frowned, pressing the blade of the spear to her throat.

"You really think I won’t? If you take one more step, I’ll k—"

Leon took two steps, tilting his head. "I took two. You won’t kill her, right?"

His relaxed attitude finally got the Josh, causing him to grow frustrated.

"Are you crazy? I’m really going to slit her throat and a fountain of blood will come gushing out immediately."

He said those words intentionally, giving a few students a jump-scare at his supposed cruelty.

"Will you?"

Leon took one more step forward, standing right before the two students.

Josh’s body was so tense that he was unconsciously trembling. His palms had turned sweaty, and his forehead was dripping with sweat.

"Damn you!"

Pushing Fel aside, he held the spear and clumsily jabbed it at Leon’s torso.

Selene returned to eating, only hearing a sickening crack and the guttural scream of Josh.

She lifted her gaze again, seeing Leon holding the spear casually.

Josh was sprawled on the ground, his two arms twisted oddly at the elbow.

He kept groaning in pain, almost crying as he tried to move his hands but it was to no avail.

Throwing the spear aside, Leon grabbed him by the collar of his clothes, then dragged him out of the field house.

"Leon, wait!"

Gwen urgently tried to calm him down, but he didn’t even pause.

Opening the heavy metal doors, he dragged him out and closed the door behind them.

A few minutes later, he returned to the field house alone.

Stopping at his table, he looked at the his half-eaten food, then looked at the students who were eating only white rice.

"Anyone wants to join him? I don’t want to be interrupted a second time."

The students glanced at each other in fear, but no one answered him. Instead, they simply kept their head low and ate their food quietly.

Leon sat down and continued eating. "Gwen. I know what you want to ask. And I don’t care about people who are willing to hurt others just to get what they want. Clear?"

The brown-haired girl who had been preparing to ask him questions froze, then slowly nodded.

She fell silent and continued eating. Although she didn’t really agree with how the student had been thrown out crippled, she couldn’t go back to bring him inside.

’Maybe he’d have been eaten by a zombie by then.’

Reymond and Samson didn’t say anything, pretending to be nonchalant about everything.

Inwardly though, they were shocked about Leon’s ruthlessness.

Breaking the elbow joints of another person sounded like what only a lunatic could do.

Still, they understood why Leon had done that. It was to prevent any other disturbances in the future.

If there was anyone thinking of doing something similar, then they’d have to consider having their elbows broken into pieces too.

"You usually wouldn’t join us at this table. What do you have to say?"

Selene placed down her spoon and looked at Leon.

Her expression remained the same, cold and unfeeling. However, the disgust in her eyes seemed to have reduced by a fraction.

Leon nodded as he ate, biting into the chicken lap and savoring the taste.

"I scouted the East wing of the university with my team this morning."

Selene’s brows rose in surprise. "You did? What did you see?"

Placing down the remaining meat, he answered with a thoughtful expression.

"No zombies. Only a silent forest that was larger and greener than usual."

Hearing his short explanation, Samson’s lips twitched. "Definitely eerie."

Everyone at their table paused eating, some frowning.

Gwen rubbed her nose, and said. "Since the forest developed a lot at that side, I can tell that it’s going to be full of mutated beasts."

Selene nodded, picturing the imaginary scene in her mind.

"It’s not going to be easy retrieving those buses."

They all agreed with her.

"Still, we need the buses to transport this many students safely. We’ll be going there in five days. Let’s prepare."

While the others agreed immediately, Leon closed his eyes and pondered. After a few seconds, he opened his eyes and stated.

"Six days."

The icy girl turned to him with a frown. "Why six days?"

"I have my reasons." He said indifferently, and resumed eating.

She stared at him hard for a few seconds, then nodded. "Fine, six days."

The breakfast ended quietly. Leon didn’t return to his little room immediately. Instead, he took Fel and went outside the field house.

Before they left, the middle-aged man shouted to him.

"Boy, be careful out there."

Leon acknowledged his words with a nod.

Once outside, he took Fel to a predetermined location where he had set up a surprise.

Josh was on the ground, tied up and weeping. As soon as he saw Leon, his face contorted in horror like he had seen a nightmare.

Fel also stiffened, not expecting to see him here.

"Do you know why I brought you here, Fel?"

Leon asked, his gaze fixed on Josh.

The girl timidly shook her head, but then stopped halfway. In a low voice, she answered.

"You want me... to kill him?"

Leon nodded. "Initially, I wanted to do that. But it won’t have much effect."

He said flatly, then turned to her. "You are too cowardly for this kind of world. I don’t understand what made you raise your hand, but if you can’t defend yourself from fellow humans, then you are bound to die soon."

The girl bit her lip and lowered her head, ashamed.

Leon didn’t soften his words. "If you continue being like this, you’ll only be a burden for the team. If it’s that, I’ll have no choice but to remove you."

She froze, her eyes widening as she hurriedly raised her head.

"N-no. I’ll be b-better."

Leon’s eyes narrowed faintly, then he pulled out a scroll from his pocket. "Learn this."

Fel looked at the scroll, then hesitantly collected it. In a few seconds, it was burnt to ashes and imprinted in her mind.

"That can be used for defense whenever you feel threatened."

Then, he took out a coin and handed it to her.

"Have this on you all the time. Whenever you’re hesitating or scared, rub your thumb on it and roll it in your palm. You will... be calm."

After placing that in her hand too, he finally turned to the crippled guy on the floor.

"You can go now. Say hello to Hades for me."
