You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord
Chapter 130- mediator
By the end of these conversations, they could only comfort each other, telling themselves to let go. ššāÆš¦šš¦š£ššššš.šā“š
On Saturday morning, Laurent was at home, enjoying a rare day off. She planned to help her mother with some housework and clean the house.
However, she received a call from Morrison. She had no idea why Morrison was calling her, and she couldnāt help but feel uneasy, wondering if he wanted to ask her for Marylinās contact information. If that was the case, she would definitely scold him fiercely.
She still remembered clearly the way Morrison had looked at Marylin last time. Sometimes Laurent would think, what kind of woman could handle a man like Morrison? And how strong would that womanās heart have to be to accept such a flirtatious man?
"Laurentā"
When she answered the phone, Morrisonās voice came through, sounding incredibly pitiful.
Laurent felt a chill run down her spine.
"Is there something you need, Mr. Morrison?"
Morrison spoke on the other end.
"Could you come out for a moment? I need to talk to you about something."
Laurent was puzzled. Morrison was at Burg Eltz, and she was at home. If she went out, she wouldnāt be able to meet him. After a moment of thought, she realized what was happening and quickly went to the window. She lifted the curtain and looked outside, only to see Morrison holding his phone, leaning against a car, smiling and waving at her.
"Hiā"
Laurent was at a loss for words. She hung up the phone and walked outside.
He had come all the way to her house, and since they had already seen each other through the window, it wouldnāt be quite right for her to stay inside.
After Laurent went out, she got straight to the point.
"What do you need?"
Morrison looked around at the surroundings.
"Letās find somewhere to sit and talk. You see, being out here... itās not the best for your image."
Laurent had to admit Morrison had a point. A handsome man driving such an extravagant car coming to find a divorced womanāyeah, that definitely wouldnāt look good.
So, she turned around, went back inside the small courtyard, told her mother, and then got into Morrisonās car. He drove her to a teahouse on the street, where they sat down.
Seeing Laurentās rather indifferent attitude, Morrison decided to get straight to the point.
"Lord Washington must have talked to you about the project, right? The one with that strange old French guy whoās coming to China for an inspection."
He really did resent Daveāso much so that he had carried over that dislike to anyone related to him. Tsk, tsk.
Morrison really wanted to protest. After all these years, he had been the one helping supervise Daveās social events and affairs for her. Although, to be honest, someone like Dave didnāt really need supervision.
As soon as Laurent heard him bring up this issue, she felt a headache coming on.
"Donāt tell me youāre here to act as his mediator?"
Morrison shook his head.
"Iām not here as his mediator; Iām here as my own mediator."
Laurent was confused, and Morrison explained with a pained expression.
"Because this project is a collaboration between the two of us. If it fails, Iāll take a huge loss too."
Morrison looked like he was about to cry.
"So, Laurent, please, for my sake, just go along with him and put on a show, okay?"
He was a grown man, pleading with her in such a pitiful manner. Laurent thought to herself, Morrison really had no shame.
Morrison then went off again, angrily cursing Dave.
"I know, heās a complete asshole. Heās too blind to see how good you are, and look at the damage heās done to you. He must have saved the galaxy in his past life to deserve a wife like you, but still, he didnāt appreciate it. Tell me, how is he not an asshole?!"
Morrison continued his tirade while watching Laurentās reaction.
"If he had treated you well, do you think weād be stuck in this mess right now?"
However, no matter what Morrison said, Laurent remained indifferent.
Seeing that nothing was working, Morrison had no choice but to pull out his trump card.
"Laurent, you know my mom has been pressuring me to get married. Recently, she even said if I donāt get married soon, sheāll take away my management rights to the company and give them to my younger brother, whoās about to return to the country. If this project fails, wonāt my mom have the perfect excuse to strip me of my power?"
By the end of his speech, Morrisonās expression was so pitiful that he looked like he might burst into tears.
"At that point, Iāll truly have nothing left, Laurent. You canāt just stand by and watch me lose everything!"
Morrison thought to himself, in order to win this opportunity to be around Laurent, heād really given it his all. He was almost ready to resort to crying, throwing a tantrum, and everything else. If Laurent still didnāt budge, then there would be nothing more he could do.
Morrisonās desperate act did make Laurent feel a bit guilty.
She knew well that heād been pressured by Linda to get married. Since Morrison and Dave were the same age, after they got married and had a daughter, she often heard from Tiffany about how Linda kept pushing Morrison to hurry up and marry and have children.
What Laurent hadnāt expected was that Linda would go so far as to threaten to take away Morrisonās management rights to the company. However, thinking from a parental perspective, perhaps Linda was really just desperate.
Feeling somewhat troubled, Laurent said,
"Sorry, I need to use the restroom."
Then she quickly took the opportunity to leave.
It was really hard for her to make a decision. She was strongly opposed to interacting with Dave, but Morrisonās plea was so pitiful...
It wasnāt that she pitied Morrison as a friend more than she pitied Dave as her ex-husband. It was simply that Morrisonās attitude was so humble and sincere, while Dave was her ex-husband.
Because of that relationship, in this situation, Dave was less convincing and harder for Laurent to accept than Morrison.
Seeing Laurentās attempt to escape, Morrison figured it was probably a lost cause.
