Zombie Bodyguard
Chapter 1789 - 1786: Strange Bugs
In another dormitory building on campus, a muffled roar suddenly came from a room: "Damn it, my Gu worms! After so much effort raising them, they were destroyed! Damn it, damn it!"
"Yasuo, what are you shouting about? You’re disturbing the master!" Another young man wearing a mask glanced at him with displeasure.
The person shouting in pain was Yasuo. He was startled, and cautiously glanced at Xu Feibai, seeing Xu Feibai just sitting quietly, not angry, he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
He both hated and feared the "master" before him; too unfathomable, he couldn’t understand either his thoughts or power.
Yasuo paused, trying to slow his steps, and walked to Xu Feibai: "Master, stand up for me, the Gu worms I just raised were destroyed by that girl next to Lin Tian! She actually has a Golden Silkworm Gu, no, a Gu that’s even stronger than the Golden Silkworm Gu!"
Xu Feibai turned his head, looked at Yasuo faintly, noticing him standing while talking, his brows inadvertently furrowed. Yasuo was startled, quickly squatting down like a dog, not daring to be taller than the "master," lest he tires out the master.
"Why did they destroy your Gu worms?" Xu Feibai asked faintly, his face showing no joy, anger, sorrow, or happiness.
Yasuo opened his mouth, his previous anger suddenly diminished: "I... I made the Gu worms track Lin Tian."
"When you made that decision, you should have known the consequences. I asked you to cultivate Gu worms for tasks, yet you let them track Lin Tian. Hmph!" Xu Feibai snorted coldly, looking at Yasuo like looking at a fool.
Yasuo quickly bowed his head, rapidly explaining: "That Lin Tian is very sinister, I thought following him would yield some results."
"Did you yield any results?" Xu Feibai asked coldly.
"I... I discovered that there’s a problem with that construction site." Yasuo frowned, thought briefly, and answered.
"What problem?" Xu Feibai’s gaze shifted, slightly looking squarely at Yasuo.
"At that construction site, strange insects appeared, like Gu worms, but not, because they have no master, should be ordinary insects affected by something into that state. Therefore, I suspect, there must be a source there, causing the insects to mutate." Yasuo answered cautiously while pondering.
Xu Feibai squinted his eyes, then stood up; Yasuo quickly got up and backed away. Xu Feibai walked to the balcony, looking in the direction of the construction site. Of course, nothing could be seen from here, but Yasuo dared not say anything.
"Master, should I go to the construction site and explore a bit?" The masked man said respectfully, actively sharing the master’s burden.
"You want to go to the construction site? Hmph, do you think I don’t know what you’re thinking? You want to probe Lin Tian and then seize the chance for revenge. For this idea, I only have two words for you: foolish. Lin Tian’s destroying the Gu worms was a warning; do not make contact with him again. If you spoil my big plans, you know the consequences."
Xu Feibai swept his gaze over the two’s faces, his eyes stern. Both dared not meet his eyes and had to nod in agreement.
"Master, what should we do then?" Yasuo respectfully asked for instructions.
"Continue cultivating Gu worms, focus on exploring the old area, remember, do not waste the power of curses again." Xu Feibai coldly warned, then waved his hand: "Go out now, in the future, regarding Lin Tian, I’ll make contact myself."
"Yes, master." The two spoke in unison, opened the door, and left the house.
Outside in the corridor, Yasuo suddenly said: "Kid, in the future, don’t point fingers at me in front of the master, do you think I’ll be afraid of you, a zombie?"
The masked man sneered coldly, not backing down: "Do you think I’ll fear your little bugs? Ridiculous!"
"So ignorant, if I cultivate a Soul-controlling Gu, zombies would only become my servants." Yasuo said with great pride.
"Including the master?" The masked man retorted, his tone carrying disdain, naturally mocking Yasuo’s overestimation of his abilities.
Yasuo’s eyes flickered, then he denied: "The master is invincible; mere Gu worms are naturally ineffective against the master."
"It’s good that you know." The masked man chuckled mockingly again, then turned and left. Yasuo turned to glance at the dormitory door, his eyes flickering, pondering something, he didn’t linger, and also left.
On the dormitory balcony, Xu Feibai turned to look at the dormitory door, a faint smile in his eyes, as if he had heard something.
In the old building’s basement, He Xiaofei was sizing up Lin Tian and Xiao Manxuan, looking skeptical: "You two have problems, I clearly heard you muttering something just now. Come on, are you hiding something from me?"
Lin Tian scratched his brow, feeling helpless, sometimes a woman being too smart isn’t that good, like He Xiaofei now; he had to half-truthfully say: "We just saw the bugs, the kind uncle mentioned, those strange bugs, no need to look, they’ve already crawled into the wall cracks."
"There really are bugs, huh? Could it be wood-boring bugs; after all, there’s lots of old wood here." He Xiaofei looked puzzled, then shook her head: "Forget it, just a few bugs, let’s not bother them, keep looking, hey, there’s another door over there."
He Xiaofei hesitated a bit, but quickly gave up, instead examining the surroundings further, pointing her flashlight beam towards the back of the basement, where she discovered a door.
The door was ajar; Lin Tian went over and gently pushed it, "Creak..." The old door emitted a sinister sound, a chill rushed from behind the door, carrying dust.
"Cough cough... How long has it not been cleaned, it’s so neglected." He Xiaofei was choked by the dust, coughing a few times, she waved her delicate hands, trying to dispel the dust.
After waving for a while, she noticed Lin Tian’s attention wasn’t on the dust but was squinting at the corridor inside. She found it odd and shined the flashlight, the sight startled her.
In the corridor, there were many spider webs, beneath the spider webs, insects clung to the walls. Once the light shone on the wall, the originally stationary insects seemed startled by something, swarming into motion, and in moments, they had crawled into the wall cracks, disappearing.
He Xiaofei was so scared that goosebumps rose, nearly dropping the flashlight in her hand.
"Should we not go in?" He Xiaofei whispered, afraid of startling the bugs again.
Lin Tian didn’t answer her question; instead, he was pondering the problem, did I think wrong earlier, were the bugs uncle mentioned not placed by Yasuo, but inherent to this old house?
Because the bugs that just appeared in the corridor didn’t seem like they had masters, besides, Yasuo wouldn’t place his bugs here.
"Lin Tian, what are you thinking, didn’t you hear what I said?" He Xiaofei looked at Xiao Manxuan, then at Lin Tian, finding both had the same expression, she could only wave her hand in front of them to try to regain their attention.
