After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World
Chapter 1939: Explosions Everywhere
The trebuchets that Valov brought in had longer reach than the ones they saw in Ferrol. Even with the high-level walls and extra distance created by the loose sentries, it could still hit the walls, as well as the sentries.
BANG!
BANG!
It was too idiotic to go through the existing defense. Naturally, they ought to take down the sentries that could cause them trouble. Anyway, they didn’t need to take down all sentries, just those along their path.
BANG!
BANG!
There were several trebuchets, and many continued to travel to target other parts of the walls. There were at least 2 trebuchets per section, continuously targeting essential spots.
Some targeted the loose sentries, some the sentries along the walls, and some hit directly at the walls. The sentries naturally had higher defenses than just the walls, so it would take them far longer to take them down, but unlike others, Valov knew what to aim first.
The accuracy was imperfect, but it was just a matter of which part of the wall or sentry was hit. This was fortunate for Alterra because the hits were a little spread out, prolonging life, though definitely not enough. It would only be a matter of a couple more shots before something gave way.
This was happening in more than one sector, so even the powerhouses could not really handle everything. For one, dwarven trebuchets weren’t like typical cannons that people could catch.
Perhaps only those just beyond the town level cap could do something about that with their bare hands; they had to be ready for injuries, if not death.
On the other hand, the projectiles from Alterra’s cannons headed straight for the enemy masses, though they seemed to have a knack for hitting citizens or guards directly, skipping the slaves.
BANG!
BANG!
Alterra had hundreds of cannons now, spread out around the barrier, all with farther reach and power. Each cannon cannot have one ’eye’, but one ’eye’ could have several cannons in its command.
These people were all excellent marksmen. Even wth their own weapons out, shooting down enemies themselves, they could do so while ordering the cannons at the same time.
"Cannon B1! 21 degrees North, 620 meters!! Cannot B3, 23.5 degrees, 631 meters!"
BANG!
BANG!
And they hit a group of people indeed.
The compasses that could bypass the interference of aether had now been created, allowing people to refer to directions much more accurately.
It was still imperfect, but it was enough as joint referencing when it came to directions and accurate aiming. The reference point was the Eye’s location. The people handling the cannons, all from different spots, simply had to calculate with the displacement in mind.
Considering these were projectiles shot by people who couldn’t even see the targets, the accuracy was terrifying.
They wanted to target the trebuchets, but sadly, they were guarded well. It was better to lessen the enemies they had to deal with, as well as damage the ground below them at least.
Valov wasn’t to lose in terms of large firepower, of course. They had at least a dozen trebuchets, not side by side, but they were grouped close enough to target specific zones to weaken.
They were trying to create several breaches at once!
Whoosh! Bang!
The walls continuously shook, and most of those who were on the battlement had no choice but to jump down.
Those who remained did their best to stay strong, staying to weaken the projectiles coming their way.
The people in some section of the battlement lost their balance, and they could only take cover. After a few shots, some fell down, and many were injured directly. A few projectiles also went over the walls and hit either the easement or one of the houses.
If the projectile could damage walls, it could definitely decimate the system houses with ’normal’ defense arrays.
Boom!
Bang!
Boom!
The dwarven weapons were powerful, aiming directly at the aether defense, which was why each shot was a large deduction to the life of the wall.
Sadly, during wars, no repairs could be done, so Alterra could only try to keep the damage minimum.
Powerhouses were stationed every few hundred meters of battlement, and they did their best to at least deflect or weaken each shot. For example, Olga would create large waves of water to slightly mess up its path, deflecting it to other areas.
Although water was soft, it was not to be underestimated. Not to mention, aether versus aether still had more effect than purely physical deflections.
The direction after deflection still hit the wall, but it spread out the damage and delayed the sector’s fall.
Some were a little more successful, with Obi jumping up and kicking the projectile down, deflecting it to the enemy. However, since the enemy wasn’t stupid, many of them still managed to avoid it.
The projectile was big and heavy, with a passive ability to ’weaken’ aether-enhanced things and attacks. It was not exactly easy to kick far away like a ball.
BANG!
BANG!
The powerhouses did well, and the projectiles they blocked really delayed the damage. However, there were too many trebuchets for powerhouses to deal with, and several shots could be made every few seconds.
"Go! Go! Shoot them down!" Waran yelled, a wide smile on his face. He was in charge of another sector like Besston was.
He ordered the trebuchets not to hold back. They had huge amounts of projectiles to use, with hundreds of them still being hauled through the array.
The projectiles themselves didn’t need to be made by Earth users, but the effectiveness was higher when they were. Fortunately, they had no lack of these back home, and they could create projectile after projectile on the other side of the array, not having to worry about getting attacked by enemies!
For communication, Valov had plenty of aether letters to make sure the forces were coordinated or updated with each other.
Aether letters worked one-to-one, so they had someone, called the Coordinator, hold the partnering aether letters, and then he’d just be the one to disseminate instructions as needed.
They would receive some information about the best places to target, which powerhouse was defending which area, and so on. These were all very useful in this war, and they could only pat their own shoulders for being smart.
Where was this Coordinator, you ask? Somewhere safe!
Safe inside Alterra, that is!
