After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World
Chapter 1940: Explosions Continue
Besston’s heart was swelling. They had prepared so much for this war, and seeing so many trebuchets working together to damage the enemy walls—which had, before Valov arrived, been basically impenetrable to others—had already weakened not even an hour into the war!
Before coming here, he thought his father was overplaying it. After coming here, seeing the tall walls, the excessively dense sentries—some of which were even outside the walls—and then the enemy’s own explosive power, he finally understood.
He hated to admit it, but without Hassen City’s assistance this time, Valov’s losses would’ve been immeasurable.
Seeing the walls show cracks definitely recovered some of the confidence shaken by the enemy’s show of force.
They didn’t mind the enemy powerhouses successfully weakening their projectiles here and there. Their energy and their health weren’t unlimited! In a prolonged war, even those powerhouses could become helpless! Even those powerhouses could get injured by the projectiles!
Unless they were City-level powerhouses, what those people could do was limited. For most people below level 40, a hit from a dwarven weapon could still cause considerable damage.
Were they sturdier than a high-level wall? Probably not.
Since Alterra (or anyone else, for that matter) had yet to produce defense equipment to defend against Dwarven weapons, all they could do was target the weapons and the shooters.
There were high-level 40 to 50 powerhouses guarding the dwarven weapons, so they could cover the attacks. Many were beyond the level cap, which was fine because all they did was defend.
Not to mention, the trebuchets themselves were difficult to damage unless it was really an aether weapon as well, so the cannons, even if they did manage to hit, wouldn’t necessarily destroy it.
The trebuchets per sector also worked in pairs or even in threes, distanced sufficiently far apart, but close enough to target the same spots. Attacking one meant it was difficult to attack the other. For the enemy, it was definitely a headache.
Alterra’s non-aether explosive weapons might eventually damage the trebuchets, yes, but it had to happen often enough. Fortunately, they (Valov) had assigned a large number of mercenaries and several powerhouses to protect each pair!
Besston looked at the tall walls with a glint in his eyes. A part of him was very curious about what was inside. Was it better than Valov? Would his father allow him to take over, rather than absorbing the token?
He had the sudden loss of interest in the Valov Token, which he had been running after for decades. Alterra’s glanced good, too.
To do this, he must show merit, even to the eyes of those above, their master territory!
Unlike those other fools who lost to this place, he, Besston, heir to Valov Town, would take over!
...
Many visitors had never seen such...explosive fights before. To most people, explosive weapons were incredibly rare.
Look at this now, both sides were literally barraging each other with it!
The visitors who were inside the hotels, watching from their balconies with the scopes they bought for a high price (and contribution points) watched the battles from afar.
They weren’t quite certain what they were expecting in a war between two level two towns, but it was definitely not this.
Now, explosive weapons weren’t something Alterra wanted popularized, so they would never sell this technology outside of their territory. Their mere existence could also be a deterrent, keeping hostile territories guarded, thinking twice before they attacked.
At this stage, only Valov would dare, and to be fair, they really had a basis for their confidence.
They had a large amount of dwarven weapons, abnormally so. They had thousands of level 30s, hundreds of which were just below the level cap, most of which were now on their side, attacking.
If it were any other level 2 town—or maybe even some level 3 towns—they would’ve been obliterated by this amount of force.
This also sent alarms to many of the guests just watching, especially those in territories at those levels.
Were others so far away now?
What if it were their territory that got attacked?
A wave of fear and trepidation attacked the spectators’ hearts. As for how this fear would show, or how it would affect their future actions, only time would tell.
BANG!
CRACK!
The first to go were a couple of loose sentries. This was natural. No one was guarding them, after all, and the enemies had to take them down to reduce the threats to the forces early on.
The trebuchets moved more than a hundred meters forward with increasing accuracy. The powerhouses got even busier, and there were several shots that they missed.
BANG!
BANG!
CRACK!
Finally, in a few separate parts of the territory, cracks finally appeared on the walls. Alterrans did their best to hit the trebuchets with the cannons as well, but the enemy powerhouses were not weak, and many were elementalists.
As strong as cannons were, if a high-level earth user or metal user decided to block it, it would be blocked. There were also wind and fire elementalists; the former could weaken the trajectory of the Alterran projectiles, while the latter could ignite them before they landed.
Several powerhouses wanted to attack the trebuchets directly, like how Ferrol handled theirs, but there were simply too many attacking Alterra, not to mention this version seemed to be the ’upgraded’ one.
They had seen that the enemies had many level 50s mobilized this time, all of whom were guarding the trebuchet areas. Even Gregor had to be careful heading in.
Besides, they really could not leave the wall easily. It was much more dangerous to let them destroy the walls.
For now, they could only defend, slow down the enemy’s progress, and somewhat reduce the enemy numbers along the way with their own explosives.
BANG!
BANG!
CRACK!
Loki and the others cursed when they saw a crack forming on the walls. It was small, but it would compound if they didn’t deal with this problem soon.
BANG!
BANG!
It was troublesome, but they were not completely helpless. Loki was one of the ’eyes’ in the area.
He looked at the trio of trebuchets targeting this area. Most of the others were in pairs, but obviously, the enemy had decided that this sector was best to prioritize.
"Can’t we use the beast-attracting potions?" It was one of their go-to strategies before. It was simply to add potions to explode along with their projectiles, causing beast mobs there.
"It might be of no use this time, the enemies had already cleared out the nearby monsters," his assistant said.
The people who arrived before the arrays opened were mostly above the level cap. Town-level monsters were easy for them.
"Tsk."
