After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World
Chapter 1941: Shooting Back
Loki made rapid calculations, ordering several cannons to target a specific area at specific times. Even if those damned things were protected by elementalists, their skills had cooldowns, so they wouldn’t be able to defend against all of them!
BANG!
BANG!
BOOM!
On the ground, people gasped as they saw several cannons pushing through, landing right next to them.
BOOM!
"AHH!"
"Ouch!"
"My arm!!"
What’s more, along with a few explosions, eerie purplish-grey smoke emerged.
Besston had been trained by their informants beforehand, and he immediately barked the orders. "It’s Poison smoke!" he yelled.
Not everyone could react fast enough, and many of the ’weaker’ fighters fell down, trampled by the stampede. It was unknown whether they would ever wake up or not.
The first hours of the war became an impressive war of attrition from both sides, with Alterra’s seemingly endless cannonballs raining down on the area around the trebuchets, keeping the Dwarven weapons from working at their best by limiting the movements of those around them.
This was the sight seen in several places. There was someone reporting the state of the battles in other places, so if the plan was effective, the other side may or may not employ the same strategies.
They did not have a lot of the superpoisons, the ones that could affect level 40 and above, but they had a lot of poisons that could affect level 20s. While not ideal, it was still helpful.
It was a bit annoying to have to use these things so early on, but they had to do their best to stop a breach from forming, and a breach was very close to forming.
In the end, they managed to delay the breach by a few hours.
This was already an achievement. For those watching at the side, they were fairly sure their own territories, faced with this same onslaught, wouldn’t last ten minutes before a breach was formed.
Many of them stayed to watch the show; they really didn’t expect so many slaps today!
...
While many cannons had hit the trebuchets, the defense quality was not low, and they still worked well. What the cannons did kill were several of the people manning the trebuchets.
However, Valov was prepared, and they had several people who could replace them. In the end, the trebuchets still kept shooting, even if with less frequency and accuracy, eventually creating bigger cracks after a long time. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Most importantly, cannons needed cannonballs. The trebuchets simply needed earth users to create projectiles for them.
Valov did not expect to take so long, however, and they lost a few hundred before they could even reach the walls. If it were a normal war, sure, but they invested tens of thousands of gold here!
Soon, the cracks appearing on the walls grew bigger and bigger, and more and more sentries were taken down. The sight both excited them and made them heave breaths of relief.
The trebuchets got a bit closer, making it easier to target specific spots, and the breach on the wall grew bigger and bigger, crumbling so that tens of people could enter at the same time, side by side.
Besston, who was already pale from nerves, finally grinned and looked at the hundreds of thousands of people surrounding Alterra, and then at the next vanguard group—hundreds of level 30s, dozens of half-orc fighters, and hundreds of goblin diggers.
With this, their sector could literally barrage through the opening, allowing tens of thousands of people in within the next few minutes!
Besston chuckled and shifted his gaze at the tall wall of the enemy, proudly raising his weapon.
"ATTACK!!"
...
As soon as a breach was made by the trebuchets, they were prepared to enter. They didn’t want to accidentally get hit by the projectiles exchanged between both sides, and it was inevitable that many powerhouses would be heading where the projectiles were hitting.
At the same time, certain teams were also assigned to pierce through areas without a trebuchet, because many would be distracted by this time.
One such team was led by Waran, Wazan’s brother.
He and Wazan were part of the Waisen family in Hassen City. It was a lower-mid noble family there, and their family was not even the main line, just an illegitimate family.
When one of their uncles was given a token, tasked to develop it into a town within a few years, they decided to head there after it had been upgraded.
In a city, they were nothing special, but at the town level, their future was bright. However, unexpectedly, Wazan’s life fire died while on a mission.
After many months of investigation, going through various misdirections and fake news, they found out it was from a damned new Town named Alterra.
He led his own team, determined to cause damage!
As the Alterrans found the damage compounding in the areas targeted by trebuchets, more and more people headed towards the problem areas. Wazan’s group would then take advantage of whatever loosened defense they had.
At their level, an area without a powerhouse guarding it was already a vulnerable area.
His team was made up of two hundred people, the lowest level of which was level 29, and the highest (Him) was level 39. They decided to cut through like a needle, his teammates handling the arrow shots from the sentries and the people.
Several teammates had shields out, positioned so none of their 200 would get damaged by the sentries. All of the shields were at least Class D.
Waran’s shield was even B-class, which could shield against level 40 attacks! As such, even if a sentry arrow hit him, he’d be fine.
Their team also had strong earth users who could create very sturdy stairs over the walls, allowing for a smooth transition from outside to inside.
BANG!
The breaches were reported, and they attacked at the same time. Some teammates handled those on the battlement, teaming up if they had to, and the rest were greeted by those in the easements.
More teams followed right behind them, and they tried to create a breach over the walls while a physical one was being forced open on other sides.
The Alterran easement was relatively wide and could fit a lot of people, and their team attacked these people. The other side’s average level was lower than theirs, so they just went against them face-to-face.
It wasn’t easy though. Alterra’s formations had always been good, their equipment superior, and their morale was seemingly unbreakable.
However, Valov didn’t waste all those months where they could only watch from the side, unable to attack!
