Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead
Chapter 801 - 352: Detective Raventon
The carriage passed through Grimland, and half an hour later, arrived in front of a three-story building.
Sal Street.
This is a very standard middle-class row house, built of red bricks. The ground floor is a shop with the walls painted neatly and strikingly white, and above the door hangs a sign with plain text, the second and third floors serving as residential.
The sign reads:
Reventon Detective Agency.
Wu Chang and Erin got off the carriage, looked at 41 Sal Street, the inside of the house was pitch dark, showing no sign of light.
It seemed, as Julie said, the owner of this building was somewhat elusive, requiring a couple more visits.
Wu Chang appeared unconvinced, wanting to lead Erin toward the building to see if this trip was indeed in vain.
But as he took the first step, he suddenly stopped, turned to the coachman, and asked:
"Aren’t you coming with us?"
The coachman replied blankly, "I’m only responsible for driving the carriage, not for helping knock on doors."
Wu Chang responded with the same blank expression:
"But isn’t this your home, Mr. Reventon."
The atmosphere instantly fell silent, after a moment of awkwardness, the coachman frowned and questioned:
"What did I do that made it seem otherwise?"
Wu Chang stroked his chin, pondering:
"There are too many unlikeable aspects, allow me to think carefully."
"Firstly, it’s your uniform, it’s one size too small for you, when sitting and driving, your wrists and ankles are exposed. Your attire is so meticulous in detail that you shouldn’t make such basic mistakes; obviously, it doesn’t belong to you."
The coachman looked at his wrist, somewhat helplessly, said:
"I’ve tried my best to choose a target of similar build to mine, but unfortunately his arm span is slightly smaller, no time to make adjustments."
Wu Chang continued:
"Secondly, you’re too talkative, and the topics are ones I’m interested in. But as far as I know, Grimland coachmen are usually silent, especially when facing wealthy passenger carriages."
"One is due to different social classes, speaking more risks erring more, and the other is a certain superiority feeling towards country bumpkins from foreign lands."
The coachman said, "But you paid."
Wu Chang said, "This is the third issue, I gave you banknotes, and your gaze lingered on them too long, I didn’t see the desire for money from you."
The coachman asked, "Anything else?"
Wu Chang said, "Lastly, even in Grimland, it’s not extravagant to hire a powerful transcendent coachman."
"You know, Secret Magic Knights are mutually attracted to each other. The cultivation method of Secret Magic Knights is to integrate mystical origin into the body; the power origin is homogenous and becomes very visible to each other."
"Mr. Reventon, your presence is as conspicuous as a bonfire in the dark."
"A transcendent who knows my identity, disguises identity sneakily follows me, and is a kindred of Secret Magic Knight lineage, besides you, Mr. Reventon, I cannot think of anyone else."
Reventon got off the carriage, discontentedly pouted, saying:
"You used a special method, saw the secret technique energy inside of me, that’s the real reason you discovered me, right."
Wu Chang chuckled and said, "Nice to meet you, great detective Mr. Reventon."
Reventon’s guess was correct, the reasons mentioned earlier were all anomalies Wu Chang pinpointed after noticing the extraordinary energy within Reventon.
The ability he gained after reincarnation, Eye of Breaking Method, has the ability to see through mysticism, the moment he saw the coachman, he discerned the differenceness.
Initially, he thought it was Julie’s arrangement, so he didn’t take it to heart. After meeting Julie and learning about Reventon, he realized the coachman was indeed Reventon.
Reventon took out a brass box from his pocket, inside the box is set up a micro mystical ceremony.
He must adjust the mystical ceremony within the box to correspond to the status to open the door.
Simply put, it’s a transcendent version of a password lock.
Reventon usually investigates cases, many are Stilan’s top-secret cases involving a lot of social secrets, to protect the agency’s files, he designed rather complex passwords, typically taking over ten seconds to open.
While adjusting the door password, he asked:
"You said Secret Magic Knights mutually attract each other, why can’t I see the extraordinary power within you at all?"
Wu Chang stepped forward, a mystical runic disk appeared out of thin air in his palm, he reached out and pressed it against the brass door ring, alongside a crisp metallic twang, the door’s prohibition opened.
He pushed it open, looked at Reventon, still fiddling with the brass box outside, and said:
"Maybe it’s because, your cultivation isn’t mature enough, when you can discard those useless little things, that’s when you’ll see more like me."
Reventon reluctantly put away the brass box, admitting:
"Alright, I admit, you’re indeed slightly stronger than me in mysticism, worth Julie specifically bringing you back."
Wu Chang led Erin by the hand, as if truly the house’s owner, glancing around everything.
The ground floor is the functional area, kitchen, laundry room, and storage room are all distributed on this floor, getting close to the building, the scent of remaining food can be smelled.
"Didn’t expect you normally cook for yourself."
Reventon was somewhat displeased with Wu Chang’s casual moving around, but still said:
"No, the landlady would come over to help me with these things when I’m home. I’m busy, no time to waste on these trivial matters."
