Chapter 302: Bullying a mutated rank magic beast

Alex and Eric entered the training room, and the door closed behind them.

The training room was spacious, having a space of more than fifty metres and formations on the walls.

The instructor who had called their names was already waiting for them inside, at a glance, Alex noticed that the other party was at the Archmage rank.

He nodded. The university was still keeping the students’ safety, and Archmage should be able to handle the situation in case anything went wrong with the mutated rank beast during the assessment.

"Are you both ready?" The instructor glanced at the duo. Alex and Eric nodded in unison. Eric had a serious expression on his face, his eyes gleaming with excitement as he waited for the assessment to start. Such was expected from a student who was about to face a mutated rank magic beast.

As for Alex. The instructor didn’t know how to feel when he saw Alex’s expression. The student didn’t seem particularly interested in this assessment and was simply here because he was required to.

He shook his head and looked away. On the other side of the training room opposite Alex and Eric, a section of the wall slowly lowered and revealed a dark path.

Low growling could be heard from within the passage that was just revealed and they could feel something approaching from it.

"What type of beast do you think will come out?" Eric whispered to Alex while his eyes stayed fixed on the dark passage.

Alex shrugged his shoulders and said that he didn’t know either.

However, they got their answers a few seconds later as a large creature rushed out from the passage.

The magic beast was as huge as two grown men stacked on top of each other and had the appearance of a savage beast with a short larger horn poking out from its head. The creature had two large paws with long claws in front and its back legs had sharp talons.

It was truly a weird combination.

But despite its savage and odd appearance, the creature didn’t make much noise when it moved as it shot across the training room and made a beeline for the duo.

This would have definitely caught regular students off guard, even Eric wasn’t prepared for this.

His eyes widened when he realised that they were in danger but it was always too late as one of the huge paws was always in front of them, five long claws gleamed with thirst for their blood.

"Space wall!"

However, Alex wasn’t going to allow himself to be caught unfresh by such a weak beast.

The moment the beast appeared in front of them, he already formed two star patterns and placed a space wall in front of them.

Bang!

The claws of the magic beast landed heavily on the invisible wall and caused visible ripples to appear, but it didn’t manage to destroy it.

Since its sneak attack failed, the beast quickly retreated and landed over twenty meters away from the two.

Eric didn’t stay shocked for long either after being saved by Alex once, he immediately took out his magic item and cast shadow daggers, turning the two swords into curved shadowy daggers.

He was now ready for combat!

"Nice reaction, I didn’t expect him to be able to block that." The instructor who was observing from the side mumbled to himself, deeply impressed by Alex’s performance.

He was about to step in at the last moment, thinking that the two students were done for when he sensed Alex’s space element.

Meanwhile, the magic beast didn’t rush to attack right away and observed the two students from a distance. This was one of its characteristics as a mutated rank beast, it possessed a level of intelligence and wouldn’t attack mindlessly.

"How do we take care of it?" Eric asked without looking at Alex, subconsciously passing the position of leadership to him.

Eric’s eyes locked on the beast while he maintained a stance with both daggers held backwards, he was ready to sweep into action at any moment.

Alex dispersed the star patterns before replying.

"Its skin doesn’t look too tough. I’ll try to hold it in place so you can cut it down, let’s make this quick." Alex replied after observing the beast.

He knew this type of magic beast. They were masters of ambushing their targets and weren’t very good at frontal confrontations, they were fast but their defences weren’t so great.

He had killed a look of similar beasts while farming exp points.

"All right, we’ll go with your plan." Eric didn’t raise any complaints and agreed to Alex’s plan. He would wait for Alex to present him with an opportunity to charge at the beast.

"Keep up," Alex added and suddenly dashed forward.

Eric "..."

Instructor "..."

That’s a mutated rank beast that’s particularly fast compared to other beasts of the same rank, why was Alex approaching it?!

While the instructor was dumbfounded and looking forward to what Alex was going to do. Eric decided to trust Alex and dashed after him while rotating his daggers in between his fingers.

The beast opened its mouth and roared at the two when it saw them rushing toward it. It turned around and swiped out with its talons.

The talons generated sharp winds that flew towards the two. Without any of them saying anything, they both dashed in opposite directions and completely avoided the creature’s attacks.

And without waiting for the beast to even turn around, Alex summoned multiple silver white stars and instantly created two star patterns.

"Space bullets!" He called out. Right after which whistling sounds rang out as the invisible bullets shot towards the beast.

Sensing the approaching danger despite not being able to see the space bullets, the magic beast tried to dodge.

BAM!

But it wasn’t still careful enough, a space bullet hit one of its talons and blasted it into a bloody mess.

The beast let out a loud agonised roar after losing a talon, what was left was a mess of bloody flesh that dangled behind it.

Taking this as his chance, black stars appeared around Eric and he rushed toward the creature.

Seeing this, the beast attacked with one of its huge paws, trying to smack Eric away or crush him.

But Eric was prepared, just before the paw of the beast could touch him.

"Shadow blend!" Eric called out. His body rapidly disappeared into the shadow of the beast like black liquid and the next second, he rose from the ground behind the beast and attacked with his daggers.

Swish!! Swish!!!

The sounds of the daggers cutting through flesh followed as Eric created multiple deep cuts on the back of the beast in a matter of seconds, sending pieces of flesh into the air while his daggers splashed blood around.

Roar!!!!

The beast reacted in pain and turned around to attack.

"Space bullets!"

Alex wasn’t just going to watch the show.

Whistling sounds were heard as invisible bullets flew through the air.

BAM!

One of the bullets hit the creature’s paw and blasted it off completely while a few others created more wounds on its body.

With Alex preventing the beast from attacking him, Eric kept his daggers busy and slashed endlessly.

The instructor watched from the side with awe, he wasn’t able to hide his expression.

"Such perfect coordination, they’re handling it like a common rank magic beast!" The instructor exclaimed softly as he watched the two students maltreat the mutated rank magic beast that was supposed to require a group with at least one Expert rank mage to deal with.

With Alex keeping up the barrage of space bullets and Eric splashing the body of the creature, the beast soon died after just a few minutes and both of them were asked to leave the training room while other students were called in.

Since they were done with this assessment, there was no more reason to stick around. Alex wanted to leave and Eric naturally chose to follow him.

"That was easier than I imagined, this beast is nowhere near the level of the iron-horned snake." Eric laughed proudly while they walked.

Alex didn’t reply and just kept walking in silence. He lifted his gaze and saw a figure walking in their direction, Alex’s eyes immediately narrowed.

They kept walking and Eric didn’t stop talking, they finally walked past the figure some seconds later.

"The descent of a God," the figure mumbled softly and kept walking but thanks to their extraordinary hearing abilities as mages, both Eric and Alex heard him.

Eric didn’t think much of it and kept talking while Alex frowned.

’What do they want now?’ Alex thought to himself as he continued to walk with Eric.

After some time he suddenly stopped and turned to face Eric.

"I suddenly remembered that I have something important to attend to, I’ll see you later," Alex said and ran off before Eric could reply.

Eric "..."

He stared speechlessly as Alex quickly disappeared from view.

The boy didn’t even allow him to finish his sentence!
