Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 85: What Is Your Relationship?
Wren Wynter looked up and saw Lana Xavier and Seraphina Sutton walking out of a nearby boutique.
Seraphina Sutton was carrying a shopping bag, and Lana Xavier had her arm linked with hers. The two of them were talking and laughing.
Enemies are bound to cross paths.
Seraphina Sutton saw Wren Wynter too, and the smile on her face froze for a moment.
Lana Xavier followed her gaze. When she saw Wren, her expression immediately darkened.
"Well, well, if it isn’t Wren Wynter?" Lana Xavier said, pulling Seraphina Sutton over. "What’s this? No work today, so you decided to go shopping?"
Wren gave her a cool glance. "Whether I work or not is none of your business. It’s not like I’m living off your family."
Lana Xavier’s face turned livid from the retort. She looked Wren up and down, her gaze landing on the pile of shopping bags next to her. A flash of displeasure crossed her eyes, but she pressed on.
"Looks like my brother is treating you well, giving you so much money to spend."
Seraphina Sutton’s gaze fell on the logos on the shopping bags. They were all top international brands, and they certainly weren’t cheap.
A wave of jealousy washed over her, but she kept a gentle smile on her face. "Dr. Wynter, did... Kaden buy all this for you?"
Wren didn’t answer, but Crystal Nash spoke up. "That’s right. Kaden Xavier finally did something decent for a change, giving Wren the supplementary card to spend as she pleases."
Seraphina Sutton’s face paled, and her fingers tightened unconsciously.
She forced a smile. "Kaden is so good to Dr. Wynter. But Dr. Wynter, and I don’t mean to criticize, but a man’s money is hard-earned. You should be more considerate of him."
Lana Xavier immediately chimed in, "Exactly! Seraphina is right. Wren Wynter, don’t think you can just spend extravagantly because you married my brother. The Xavier family might be rich, but that money isn’t for you to squander like this!"
Joy Lynch couldn’t listen anymore. "What are you two getting at? What does it have to do with you how Wren spends her money? Why are you being so nosy?"
"I was just offering a kind reminder," Seraphina Sutton said softly. "After all, Kaden works so hard. As his wife, she should be more considerate of him instead of just endlessly taking."
The more Lana Xavier spoke, the angrier she got. She walked up to Wren, reaching out to snatch the bag on the table. "Hand over the supplementary card! You’re not worthy of spending my brother’s money!"
Wren quickly held down the bag. "Lana Xavier, are you insane?"
"I told you to hand over the card!" Lana Xavier tugged hard. "A woman like you isn’t good enough for my brother! You’re just after the Xavier family’s money!"
"That’s enough!" a cool voice rang out.
It was Shaun Quinn.
’Why is he here?’
Wren turned her head to look at the man not far away, her face filled with shock.
When Lana Xavier saw Shaun Quinn, the angry expression on her face instantly vanished. Her eyes lit up, and even her voice softened several degrees. "Allan? What are you doing here? What a coincidence!"
As she spoke, she moved forward to grab Shaun Quinn’s arm, an intimate gesture that suggested they were very close.
But just as her hand reached out, Shaun Quinn took a step to the side, neatly positioning himself next to Wren.
The subtle movement left Lana Xavier’s hand hanging awkwardly in mid-air.
"Miss," Shaun Quinn’s tone was so calm it bordered on cold, tinged with a hint of detachment. "Do we know each other?"
The smile on Lana Xavier’s face froze.
"Allan, how could you say that...? Have you forgotten? We met before in Britton."
Lana Xavier pouted, looking wronged, with tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
’Why is he so close to Wren? What’s their relationship?’
Wren stood to the side, watching the scene unfold, and instantly understood.
’Shaun Quinn and Lana Xavier must have met before, but he probably doesn’t remember her.’
"Allan..." Lana Xavier wanted to say more, but she saw that Shaun Quinn had already turned to Wren.
"Are you done shopping?"
Although his expression hadn’t changed, Shaun Quinn’s tone was clearly much gentler, and even his gaze softened. "Should I take you home?"
The contrast in his attitude was too stark. Lana Xavier felt a sharp pain in her chest, as if it had been pierced by a needle.
She watched the gentle way Shaun Quinn spoke to Wren, then recalled his cold attitude toward her. A flame of jealousy burned fiercely in her heart.
"Wren Wynter!" Lana Xavier’s voice grew louder, laced with accusation. "What is your relationship with Allan?"
Shaun Quinn stopped Wren, who was about to speak, and looked back at Lana. But his eyes were still cold. "This has nothing to do with you."
"How does it have nothing to do with me?" Lana Xavier pointed at Wren. "She’s my brother’s wife! She’s Mrs. Xavier! Is it appropriate for you to be so close to her? Allan, don’t be fooled by her. Women like her are the best at playing pitiful to gain sympathy!"
Wren sneered. ’She never wanted to acknowledge me as her sister-in-law before, but now she’s desperate for me to distance myself from Shaun Quinn.’
"Enough," Shaun Quinn interrupted her. His voice wasn’t loud, but it was firm. "Miss, I’m very disappointed in your upbringing. Is this how your family taught you to behave, slandering others in public?"
Lana Xavier’s face flushed red, then went pale at his words. She bit her lip, unable to speak.
Shaun Quinn made to leave with Wren.
"Stop!" Lana Xavier chased after them, blocking their path. Her eyes were fixed on Wren. "Wren Wynter, you have to make it clear today. What exactly is your relationship with Allan!"
Wren stopped and looked at her calmly. "I don’t need to report my relationship with him to you."
"You!" Lana Xavier trembled with anger. "You don’t dare to say it, do you? Because you have a guilty conscience! Wren Wynter, you married my brother, yet you’re flirting with another man! Have you no shame?"
People around them had started to look over, whispering among themselves.
Wren frowned, not wanting to make a big scene here.
Shaun Quinn took a step forward, shielding Wren. "Move."
"I won’t move!" Lana Xavier stood her ground stubbornly. "Allan! Why are you so protective of her? What kind of love potion did she give you?"
Shaun Quinn’s gaze turned icy. "I’ll say it one last time. Move."
His presence was so powerful that Lana Xavier was frightened into taking a step back, but she still stood there stubbornly.
She turned to Wren, her voice tinged with tears. "Wren Wynter, answer me! What is your relationship?"
Wren looked at Lana Xavier’s relentless persistence and suddenly felt very tired.
’Shaun Quinn doesn’t like Lana Xavier, I can tell.’
’And Shaun is my senior. I can’t just watch him get tangled up like this.’
Wren took a deep breath and spoke slowly. "Shaun Quinn is a very important person to me."
She wasn’t wrong. Shaun Quinn was indeed a very important person in her life.
But that list also included Julian Hawthorne and several other seniors.
Little did she know, her words had reached the ears of Kaden Xavier, who had just rushed over.
His handsome face was extremely grim, and Assistant Lynch beside him held his breath, cautiously watching his boss’s expression.
’Madam, are you trying to get me killed?’
"Mr. Xavier, should we still go over?"
