Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 86: Mrs. Xavier When Needed, a Bitch When Not
Kaden Xavier said nothing and turned to leave, his expression cold.
Assistant Lynch broke out in a cold sweat and hurried after Kaden Xavier.
Lana Xavier’s expression turned ugly when she heard Wren Wynter’s response. Her jealous gaze was fixed on the hands Shaun Quinn and Wren were holding.
Seraphina Sutton glanced at Lana Xavier’s face, then at how closely Wren Wynter and Shaun Quinn were standing. She secretly took out her phone, intending to take a picture.
Seeing this, Crystal Nash, who was standing nearby, immediately stepped forward and snatched her phone.
"What do you think you’re doing?!"
Seraphina Sutton, her face filled with panic, reached out to grab her phone back.
Crystal Nash quickly backed away, while Joy Lynch coordinated with her, holding Seraphina Sutton back to keep her from getting any closer.
"Seraphina Sutton, it seems I’ve underestimated you."
Her face was cold; she had obviously guessed what Seraphina Sutton planned to do with her phone.
Crystal Nash deleted all the photos from her phone and then tossed it back to Seraphina Sutton.
"Are you... Are you people barbarians? You snatch my phone and then act all high and mighty about it."
Seraphina Sutton looked at Wren Wynter with a wronged expression, her hands clutching the phone tightly. Inwardly, however, she was seething with rage.
’How could she have known Crystal Nash would actually snatch her phone and delete her entire camera roll?’
’All the photos she had taken before were gone!’
"You know perfectly well what you were trying to do. Did you really think Wren would care if you sent that to Kaden Xavier?"
"I just didn’t want Kaden to be sad. Dr. Wynter, you’re Kaden’s wife. You’re being so intimate with another man in public. As Kaden’s friend, I have an obligation to tell him."
"Oh? I don’t think you’re just a friend. You can’t wait for them to get divorced so you can be the other woman who takes her place, can you?"
Joy Lynch didn’t hold back either. She had long been annoyed with Seraphina Sutton, who had repeatedly made others mistake her for Mrs. Xavier, stealing Wren’s spotlight.
’It’s infuriating!’
"No, I’m not."
Seraphina Sutton explained feebly.
"Little sister, instead of going after my Wren here, you should be more worried about this Miss Sutton next to you. She’s dying to be your sister-in-law right now."
Sure enough, Lana Xavier turned her head and gave Seraphina Sutton a strange look.
Although she was on decent terms with Seraphina Sutton, she had never considered letting Seraphina become her sister-in-law.
No matter how much she disliked Wren Wynter, at least it was Wren’s first marriage, and she didn’t have any children.
But Seraphina Sutton was a different story.
It would be her second marriage, and she was pregnant.
’If she couldn’t accept Wren Wynter marrying her brother, how could she possibly accept Seraphina Sutton marrying him?’
Seraphina Sutton met Lana Xavier’s gaze and saw a hint of disdain in her eyes, which made her feel incredibly awkward and humiliated.
"I haven’t, Lana. I’ve honestly never thought about that. Kaden and I are just good friends, how could I have such an idea?"
"Whether you have or not, you know the truth in your own heart!"
Crystal Nash shot Seraphina Sutton a cold glance.
Seraphina Sutton panicked, grabbing Lana Xavier’s arm pitifully, her eyes welling up with tears as she looked at her.
"Lana, please believe me. I really didn’t mean that."
"I believe you."
Lana Xavier patted the back of Seraphina Sutton’s hand. Though she said the words, a seed of doubt had been planted in her heart.
She turned back to glare at Wren Wynter and Shaun Quinn, accusing them furiously. "Wren Wynter, don’t you forget, you’re still Mrs. Xavier! You..."
"Heh. I’m ’Mrs. Xavier’ when it’s convenient, and a ’wretched woman’ when it’s not. Miss Xavier, you’ve wasted your talent. You should be a quick-change artist."
Wren Wynter retorted with a cold, sarcastic smile.
"You!"
"Miss," Shaun Quinn interjected, "before you go around accusing others, perhaps you should go back and ask your brother what he’s been up to."
Shaun Quinn’s gaze, sharp and icy, swept over Lana Xavier. He took Wren Wynter’s hand and turned to leave.
Joy Lynch and Crystal Nash immediately followed them.
Staring at Shaun Quinn and Wren Wynter’s retreating backs, Lana Xavier stood rooted to the spot, stomping her foot in anger. She felt too wronged to stay silent, yet didn’t know what to shout.
Seraphina Sutton watched them leave, a flash of venom in her eyes, but she quickly reverted to her weak and wronged demeanor.
"Lana, don’t be angry." Seraphina Sutton gently tugged on Lana Xavier’s sleeve, her voice soft. "Dr. Wynter... she was probably just confused for a moment, blinded by passion. You have to understand her. After all, her marriage to Kaden never had a foundation of love. It’s understandable that she might fall for someone else."
Her words sounded like she was making excuses for Wren Wynter, but every sentence insinuated that Wren was being unfaithful to Kaden Xavier.
Lana Xavier was already fuming, and hearing this made her even more furious.
"Understand her? Why should I understand her?" Lana Xavier flung Seraphina Sutton’s hand away, her tone harsh. "She married my brother, so she should know her place and act like Mrs. Xavier! How dare she fool around with other men and act like she’s in the right?"
Her hand shoved away, Seraphina Sutton looked a little awkward, but she patiently tried to placate her. "Lana, I know you’re angry, but blowing this up won’t do anyone any good. After all, Dr. Wynter and Dr. Quinn are both doctors. If this gets out, it will damage their reputations. And Kaden..."
"What about my brother?" Lana Xavier glared at her.
"If Kaden finds out his wife is... with another man," Seraphina Sutton trailed off and sighed, "he’ll be heartbroken. As his family and friends, we should think about him and not make a big scene."
Lana Xavier sneered. "Think about him? I think you’re just dying for my brother to find out so he’ll divorce Wren Wynter, right?"
Seraphina Sutton’s face went pale. "Lana, how can you say that about me? I genuinely want what’s best for Kaden..."
"Alright, alright." Lana Xavier waved her hand impatiently. "I don’t want to hear it. I’m going home. You can shop by yourself."
With that, she walked off without a backward glance, leaving Seraphina Sutton standing alone, her face paling and flushing by turns.
Having watched the whole drama unfold from the side, Crystal Nash and Joy Lynch exchanged a look, both seeing the mockery in each other’s eyes.
"Let’s go, too," Crystal Nash said. "The air feels foul just being around people like that."
The two of them left the coffee shop and went to the parking garage to get their car.
「Meanwhile」
Shaun Quinn led Wren Wynter by the hand to the atrium on the ground floor of the shopping center before stopping.
Wren Wynter gently pulled her hand free and asked in a low voice, "Second Senior Brother, what are you doing here?"
Shaun Quinn let go, his expression returning to its usual indifference. "I’m here with an elder."
"An elder?" Wren Wynter was a little confused.
Just then, an elderly but powerful voice came from nearby. "Shaun, where did you go?"
Wren Wynter looked toward the voice and saw an old man in a Zhongshan suit, leaning on a cane, walking toward them.
Although the old man’s hair was white, he was full of vigor. His eyes were sharp, a clear sign of someone long accustomed to a position of power.
"Elder Yates!?"
’Wait, what did Elder Yates just call Shaun Quinn?’
’Shaun?’
’So Elder Yates’s grandson is Second Senior Brother!’
