She deliberately raised her voice when she said Chi Yun’s name, wanting Jiang Qingli and Yin Nuo to hear.

She wanted to show Jiang Qingli just how close she was with the ex-fiancé that Qingli could never win back, no matter how much she groveled.

And she wanted to remind Yin Nuo of how his master used to fawn over other men.

On the other end of the line, Chi Yun coughed a few times, his voice weak. "I’m okay... Are you out somewhere?"

At the mention of Jiang Qingli’s name, the breath on the other end of the line hitched.

Bai Yiyi looked up, her gaze meeting Jiang Qingli’s as the other woman glanced over casually.

Their eyes met. Bai Yiyi put on a somewhat panicked expression and bit her lip. "Sister Qingli, I know you care about Chi Yun. Did you want to say a few words to him?"

"No, thanks." Jiang Qingli’s voice was cold. "Don’t involve me in your little games."

She took a step closer to Bai Yiyi, a smirk playing on her lips. "Yiyi, not everyone likes picking up secondhand goods like you do."

A flicker of mockery passed through her clear, almond-shaped eyes. Jiang Qingli didn’t linger, turning to leave with Yin Nuo.

Bai Yiyi froze, feeling that Jiang Qingli was different from before.

Before she could think about it further, the sound of violent retching came from her terminal.

A nurse asked questions in a panic, but Chi Yun had no time to answer.

Ever since he heard Jiang Qingli’s voice, he had been overcome with dizzy spells and constant dry-heaving, each wave more intense than the last, as if he were trying to vomit something up from the depths of his soul.

In Bai Yiyi’s mind, the system began to flash, emitting a piercing alarm—
