Chapter 37: Date?

"Something happened?" Edgar asked, raising his brow.

Hera let out a sigh and mumbled, "....Well, he wants me to marry his son."

Edgar blinked in response before he let out a chuckle.

"Of course he does."

As far as he knew, this world was set in a backward time. People would do anything to get a hold of power.

Mord wouldn’t be any different from that mindset.

By marrying his son to the Clan Leader’s daughter, he would gain an incredible hold over the clan.

"Is this the price he asked to build the blueprint?" Edgar guessed from his previous conversation. "Your hand in marriage?"

"Yes." She replied with a sad smile. "I’m glad my father is keeping my interests in mind."

Edgar raised his brow.

"You don’t want to marry his son?"

"Yes." She nodded. "His son is really ugly."

Edgar chuckled softly, shaking his head.

The duo walked out of the castle gate while a few maids and guards quickly lined up behind them.

A maid brought Hera her veil cap, which the lady wore without question.

"I really got scammed, huh?" Edgar asked gently. "I could have gotten you if I played my cards right."

"Don’t have pipe dreams." The lady replied without getting offended. "My father would rather kill you than give me away."

Edgar nodded his head. He could more or less guess why Theo chose him.

First was his abandonment. Theo was sure Edgar wouldn’t get any outside help.

Second was his need for more allies. There was only so much he could do alone.

Theo had considered a lot of things before he brought Edgar to his side.

"What are you thinking so loudly?" Hera asked, squinting her emerald eyes.

"Nothing in particular." Edgar replied. "I am just thinking about how Sir Theo is going to deal with Mord."

"Oh, don’t worry." She waved off his concerns. "My father can deal with such people easily."

Edgar looked at her.

"Is your father thinking of making me the clan’s personal builder?"

Hera didn’t reply. All she did was smile sweetly, making dimples appear on her cheeks.

"I wouldn’t be having such thoughts if I were him." Edgar made his stance clear. "I don’t like working under someone."

Hera put her hands behind her back and leaned closer to him.

"Not even if you had me?"

"..."

Edgar gave the girl another look. Unlike before, she was wearing a full-body gown that covered her hands and neck.

Her dress was rather conservative, but she looked graceful and beautiful nonetheless.

Hera quickly leaned back.

"Stop having pipe dreams." She repeated with a chuckle.

Edgar sighed and looked away. He didn’t like being played around.

The duo reached the main bazaar with the guards walking right behind them.

Edgar ignored the girl and looked around at the items rather curiously.

Unlike the bazaar, the shops here were much more organized and less cluttered.

People walked around, and many stopped to look at them, especially Edgar.

"Are the people in the Atreus Clan stupid?" Hera asked, glancing at him. "Why would they disown a builder?"

"They didn’t know I was one when they disowned me." Edgar replied, looking at the different plates and kitchen sets. "Well, it wouldn’t matter because I would have left anyway."

Hera walked closer and said, "Is it because of Lady Valda of the Freemane Clan?"

Edgar looked at her with slight annoyance.

"You searched my past?"

"You are my best friend." She replied, smiling. "We need someone in common to bitch about."

"..."

Edgar ignored her words and bought three different kitchen sets for his fortress.

"Betrayal is in their blood." Hera continued. "A few years ago, the Freemane Clan was part of our clan."

"I don’t give a damn about her and that clan, Hera." Edgar replied clearly. "They can burn for all I care."

Hera, however, took his words as something else. She gave him a thumbs up.

"That’s the spirit, best friend!"

Edgar groaned but didn’t bother to explain much.

He passed the sets to the guard behind him as if he were the one who owned them.

The guard didn’t refuse and took them.

Edgar looked at Hera and asked curiously,

"If you don’t like handsome men or ugly men, who do you like?"

Hera brought a finger to her chin as if thinking deeply.

"Hmm, I like a man who can fly." She replied brightly.

"You are into birds?" Edgar asked, frowning.

"No!" She cried. "I mean, my ideal type doesn’t exist."

"I can fly, you know." Edgar replied, shrugging his shoulders.

"Sure you can." Hera said in a dismissive tone. "Fly me to the heavens and I will be yours."

The girl brought him into the main bazaar that was filled with items related to Nightmares.

Edgar looked around and found a shop that was selling blood.

His body moved before his mind, and before long he found himself standing in front of the shop.

"Hello, Uncle!" Hera greeted the old man who owned the shop. "How are you doing?"

"Fine, Lady Hera." The old man replied. "Though the shop isn’t doing well."

"It’s just a difficult time. It will pass."

Edgar listened to their conversation and only interrupted when they were done.

"Do you have Three-Legged Raven blood?" Edgar asked.

The old man replied with a smile. "I only have one batch left. You sure are lucky."

"Of course, Lady Luck is with him today." Hera said, nudging him. "It’s me."

Edgar gave the weird girl a glance before he looked around.

’I still need a few more blood samples for the body reconstruction...’

Edgar rubbed his temples and looked through the different items.

Hera looked at him curiously before she asked, "Do you want to create a potion to fix eyesight?"

Edgar gave her a look. "Why do you think so?"

She pointed at the raven blood that the old man had just brought out. "That’s what it’s used for."

The blonde boy fully turned toward the girl and asked, "Do you know how to create potions?"

"Of course." Hera replied as if it were a matter of fact.

Edgar drew in a deep breath, hiding his anticipation. "Can you teach me more about potions?"
