Chapter 85: Special Attention?

Janice’s nose twitched and tears welled up in her eyes.

Christopher slowly turned around and chuckled when he saw her red eyes.

"You’re my wife. Of course I am going to be good to you."

His gaze was very gentle. Janice looked into his eyes, feeling that she was about to sink into it.

She put her arms around his neck, stood on tiptoe, and slowly kissed him.

The next morning, Janice went to the TV station.

The new program group was on the third floor of the building. When she entered, she naturally attracted a lot of attention.

After all, everyone in the TV station knew that her reporters’ certificate had been revoked.

Janice didn’t care about them. When she decided to join the new program, she had already thought about it.

She had to bravely face them.

Later, she stopped at the door of Denise Kelshore’s office. She tidied up her clothes and then knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Denise’s voice came from inside the door.

Janice pushed the door open and walked in. However, she did not expect Benjamin to be there as well.

Then she immediately remembered the time when she ran to Benjamin’s office to blame him.

Although she still didn’t know the reason why she had been revoked.

But later, when she calmed down, she found that she was too impulsive at that time.

She should not have blamed him without any evidence.

But it was obviously not the time to apologize. She would appear incompetent in front of her potential new boss.

What should she do?

"Should I leave first?" Janice thought.

When Janice was in a dilemma, Denise said, "Speak of the devil." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

As soon as she finished speaking, Benjamin found Janice standing at the door. His eyes paused for a while, and then he looked away stiffly.

"Janice, what are you waiting for? Come in." Denise said.

Then Janice walked in and greeted them.

Benjamin said nothing and just sat there.

Denise turned to her, "Janice, I’m talking about the new program with Mr. Taylor. You can sit and listen. If you have any good opinions, please share with us."

Upon hearing this, Janice knew that she couldn’t leave immediately, so she sat down on the sofa.

While Denise and Benjamin were discussing the new program, she was sitting there, feeling a little uneasy.

When the two finished, Denise asked, "So, Janice, did you have any ideas?" At the same time, Benjamin’s gaze also fell on her.

To be honest, she did not hear exactly what they were discussing before. She could not come up with new ideas in such a short time, so she shook her head and said, "No."

Denise’s gaze shifted between the two, and then she said, "It doesn’t matter. Why don’t we go to the studio and have a look?"

The three then walked to the studio.

Benjamin and Denise walked in front, followed by Janice. Janice stared at Benjamin’s figure in confusion.

"Wasn’t Denise in charge of this show?" Janice thought.

Why was Benjamin so deeply involved?

Because it was a new show which worth special attention?

When she was wondering, Denise’s phone rang. She said, "We’ll pick this up later. I have to pick up a call."

Then she walked over and answered the phone. Now only Janice and Benjamin were left in the studio.

...

They two stood there and kept silent. The atmosphere was a little awkward.

Janice’s eyes unconsciously turned to the studio. Finally, her eyes fell on the host’s seat on the stage, which she had dreamed of.

But now, it was very unfamiliar to her.

She felt a strong sense of anxiety wash over her.

But she didn’t want to miss this opportunity.

Benjamin stood aside, his gaze falling on Janice.

He could clearly see her longing gaze.

He felt relieved and lonely at the same time when he heard that Janice agreed to join the show.

He was relieved because she had made the right decision and did not miss the show because of him.

Similarly, the reason why he was lonely was also because of this.

When she refused his initial invitation, she obviously still resented him.

But why would she accept it now?

Because the person who invited her wasn’t him, but Denise?

If that was the reason, perhaps he could accept it.

He was afraid that it was another reason, a reason that he was unwilling to accept, which was that she did not even hate him.

That was the most terrible thing for him.

That day, she rushed into the office with misunderstanding and questioned him.

It was a painful memory for him.

And this pain was even more intense when he saw her.

However, even so, he still needed to give her an answer.

Then Benjamin took a step forward and called, "Janice."

Upon hearing the voice, Janice turned around and looked over.

Benjamin said, "I’m very happy that you’re pursuing this."

Janice felt somewhat uncomfortable facing Benjamin. After all, she had rejected him many times before, but in the end, she still came.

She said, "Thank you for your recommendation, Director Taylor."

Benjamin sneered in his heart. She would forever be determined to use honorifics when addressing him.

He restrained his expression and said, "I’ve found out about your certificate."

Janice didn’t expect it to be so fast. "What’s the result?"

She could not help but ask.

Benjamin stared at her with an unexplainable expression, "You’d better go back to ask Mr. Bateman about this. I think he can tell you more than me."

After saying that, Benjamin left.

However, Janice was stunned.

"Ask Christopher?"

Why did this had to do with Christopher?

In the evening, after Janice returned home, she was still thinking about this question, and wanted to ask Christopher instantly.

However, Christopher hadn’t returned yet.

She glanced at the time. It was already past seven o’clock.

Christopher usually came back before this time.

Could he be delayed by something?

Janice didn’t think too much and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

What she didn’t know was that at this moment, Christopher was angrily rushing into the Batemans’s old house.

As soon as Uncle Charlie came out of the front hall, he saw Christopher storming in. He quickly went up to him and said, "Master Christopher, you’re back."

Christopher glanced at him and asked, "Where’s my father?"

Seeing that he was in a bad mood, Uncle Charlie pointed at the backyard and made way for him.

In the backyard, under the grape trellis, Nathan Bateman was sitting on a lounge chair. Beside him, there was a chessboard on the table.

...

Christopher stepped forward and stared at him.

"Why did you do that?"

Hearing this, Nathan’s gaze still remained on the chessboard in front of him.

"Sit down and play chess with me."

Christopher didn’t move.

"You can refuse to accept her, but please don’t play those tricks."

Only then did Nathan speak. "Are you referring to that reporter?"

Christopher didn’t say anything. If it wasn’t found out by Rob, he wouldn’t have thought that it was his father’s tricks.

However, Nathan snorted, "If she didn’t have anything to do with you, it wouldn’t be just revoking her certificate. She should be glad."

"Is that so? Glad?" Christopher felt ridiculous. His father still liked to use such dirty tricks. His eyes narrowed coldly. "If so, I’m afraid I won’t have to come back anymore."

After that, he turned around and was about to leave.

"Stop!" Nathan called out.

Christopher stopped.

Nathan stood up from his lounge chair. "Your grandfather’s birthday is in next month. Do you know how he plans to spend it?"

Christopher sneered, "I think he plans to not invite you."

"I don’t care. As his son-in-law, this is my duty to be filial. Tell your mother that I will hold a lively birthday party for him."

"You’d better make a call yourself."

Christopher directly walked out.

He got into the car, with his hand holding the steering wheel. He stared at the familiar yet strange house in front of him with a sneer.

It was really unnecessary for him to come here to question him.

When he was about to drive the car, the phone rang. Christopher took it out and found that it was from Janice.

He frowned slightly and picked it up. "Christopher, why haven’t you come back yet?"

In the villa, after Janice took a shower, she still didn’t see Christopher. It was almost eight o’clock. Usually, even if he worked overtime, he would tell her.

Christopher glanced at the time. It was indeed a little late.

He said, "I’m on the way."

"Oh." Janice said, "Then drive carefully."

Christopher nodded while driving, and asked, "Have you had dinner yet?"

Janice bit her lips. She had forgotten about eating.

"Not yet."

"What do you want to eat? I’ll buy it for you."

Janice thought for a moment and said, "I’m not picky about food. It depends on you."

Christopher replied with a "yes" and hung up the phone.

Janice put down the phone and sat on the sofa to watch a popular program. Her new program was still in the planning stage, and it would take some time before it was recorded. She needed to take this time to learn it well.

When she finished watching half of the show, Christopher came back. Seeing Janice curling up in the sofa and watching TV, Christopher put down his car key, walked over, and sat down beside her.

Janice focused on the show without looking at him, later she asked.

"Why are you so late today? Have you worked overtime?"

Christopher didn’t reply. He only stared at her. Whenever he thought about her upset caused by the reporters’ certificate, he couldn’t help but feel guilty.

"Shall we hire someone to cook?"

Upon hearing this, Janice confusedly looked at him.

"It’s not healthy to eat irregularly," Christopher explained.
