From Trash to Treasure: The Sinclair Family's Beloved Genius
Chapter 258: Ian Winters: I’m So Scared
The police continued to release updates on the criminals.
Many netizens started threads on the T-forums, trying to figure out who the good Samaritan was.
But by the next afternoon, Chloe Sinclair was already at the lab.
Jasper Shaw worked fast. By the third day, security around the research lab had been increased by exactly twenty-eight guards, interspersed throughout the area.
Just as Chloe Sinclair entered the lab, she got a call from Jasper Shaw, telling her that all the materials for the model had arrived.
Not long after, a dozen or so trucks were parked outside the lab.
Chloe Sinclair’s eyes lit up, and she happened to spot a Bentley at the end of the line of trucks.
Jasper Shaw stepped out of the car. He was strikingly handsome, with sharp features and an indifferent gaze.
"Mr. Shaw!"
It was a force of habit for Chloe Sinclair, and the name slipped out the moment she saw Jasper Shaw.
Jasper Shaw’s eyes softened in an instant. He looked at the young woman before him, his voice dropping a few notches.
"Why are you still dressed so lightly?"
It was already October, and the days in Emberfall were gradually getting colder.
Yet Chloe Sinclair was still wearing just a thin shirt.
Chloe Sinclair glanced down at her clothes instinctively and explained, "I left in too much of a hurry today and forgot."
Before she could finish her sentence, she suddenly felt a large, calloused hand take hers and lead her forward.
Her very soul trembled at that moment.
Astonished, Chloe Sinclair looked up and saw the straight bridge of Jasper Shaw’s nose.
Just then, Jasper Shaw lowered his head. Their gazes met and collided, and both of them froze.
"It’s warm in the lab. Let’s go inside first."
The man’s voice was deep, both velvety and tantalizing.
"I want to see the materials."
As she spoke, Chloe Sinclair made a move to check the model equipment inside the large trucks.
Jasper Shaw’s eyes darkened. He instinctively squeezed Chloe Sinclair’s hand and asked in a low voice, "Can’t you look at them later?"
Chloe Sinclair wanted to say more, but when she saw the plaintive look in Jasper Shaw’s eyes, she instantly understood and nodded in agreement.
The two of them entered the lab, and Chloe Sinclair, as a matter of routine, updated Jasper Shaw on the latest progress.
"The carrier stream concentration has reached its limit. As long as the model experiment is successful, this experiment can be considered basically complete."
After listening to Chloe Sinclair’s latest work report, a flash of surprise crossed Jasper Shaw’s eyes, but in the end, he said, "There’s no rush with the experiment. Even if it’s successful, there’s no telling how long it will take for all the approvals to come down from the higher-ups."
What he was actually more worried about was Chloe Sinclair’s health.
"The approvals should be coming through soon."
Chloe Sinclair didn’t know what was on Jasper Shaw’s mind.
Right now, all of her energy was focused on high-temperature superconductivity and controlled nuclear fusion.
Jasper Shaw felt a little helpless about this.
"What I mean is, the experiment isn’t as important as you."
When he finished speaking, they both froze.
The air suddenly fell silent. They both stared blankly at each other.
Jasper Shaw opened his mouth to speak, but Chloe Sinclair beat him to it.
"I know. I’ll be sure to take care of myself from now on."
"I won’t make you worry."
Jasper Shaw was speechless for a moment.
But his heart gave a sudden lurch, and his sharp eyes stared intently at Chloe Sinclair, as if searching for some kind of answer.
The relationship between them suddenly became delicate.
After a long moment, Jasper Shaw’s gaze softened. "Good girl."
At that single phrase, Chloe Sinclair’s ears instantly turned beet-red.
She lowered her head, not daring to meet Jasper Shaw’s gaze again.
"Ahem."
Outside the lab door, Ian Winters saw the two of them gazing at each other affectionately. After hesitating repeatedly, he had no choice but to let out a couple of coughs.
The next second, Jasper Shaw shot him a look that could kill.
