Chapter 227: Heading to the Elemental Tower, Ring of Arrogance
「October 7th.」
The fourth floor of the Mage Tower.
Only Li Wei and Torresta were there.
Torresta was still an Illusory Body.
Li Wei looked at him and asked, "Teacher, which identity should I use when I go to the Elemental Tower?"
Torresta said, "Just use your current identity."
"As for your ’Armor’ identity, it’s enough that the higher-ups at the Mage Association are aware of it."
Li Wei nodded in understanding.
A rare smile touched Torresta’s lips as he said, "A Tier Two Peak Mage is not considered weak, even in the Elemental Tower."
"You’ll have to change your ways once you get there. The competition in the Elemental Tower is fierce."
"If you keep hiding your strength, you’ll miss out on benefits you deserve. You should reveal some of your power when appropriate."
Li Wei nodded. "Yes, I understand."
’Playing the part of a normal Tier Two Fire Element Mage... that’s something I’m good at.’
Torresta took out a badge engraved with a Bright Cross.
"Take this Holy Emblem of Light to the Divine Hall of Light. It will at least guarantee you an audience with the Grand Archbishop. Whether he’s willing to help you or not will depend on your own abilities."
"If you run into any problems you can’t solve, feel free to contact me at any time."
"It’s been a while since I left the Elemental Tower, but I still have quite a few acquaintances there."
Li Wei’s heart stirred. He thought of Lilia.
"Teacher, do you know Haros?"
Torresta said, "Don’t worry. He might be a bit odd, but he’s a good person."
Li Wei nodded.
"Alright, it’s about time. Go on in."
Li Wei walked toward the Teleportation Array.
Torresta reached out and activated the long-distance Space Teleportation Array, sending Li Wei to the faraway Elemental Tower.
"Be careful. Your first long-distance Space Teleportation will be a bit uncomfortable."
"Okay."
VMMMM!
The Mage Tower trembled. In an instant, all the light throughout the tower dimmed.
Everyone instinctively looked up.
Martin and Komas stood outside, gazing at the trembling Mage Tower with looks of envy.
"He’s leaving."
"Yeah. A genius like him can’t be contained by Maple City."
All of the Mage Tower’s energy was being channeled into the long-distance Space Teleportation Array.
A silver light flared, tearing open a rift in space.
A powerful suction instantly pulled Li Wei inside.
Li Wei felt as if he had plunged headfirst into the deep sea. It was dark and lightless all around, with only the occasional streak of light flashing past.
Terrifying spatial pressure crushed down on his body.
A thin, fragile layer of silver light outside his body was the only thing protecting him from being crushed.
Li Wei couldn’t help but feel a surge of fear.
He was terrified that the silver light would shatter, leaving him to be annihilated by the Power of Space.
An unknown amount of time passed before a white dot appeared in front of Li Wei.
The white dot rapidly expanded, filling his vision in the blink of an eye.
THUMP!
Li Wei landed in the Teleportation Plaza.
His body swayed a few times. He was dizzy, and his stomach churned. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Thankfully, Torresta had reminded him not to eat breakfast that morning.
Now, even if he wanted to throw up, there was nothing to bring up.
"GACK!"
The sound of someone retching came from nearby.
A young man in magnificent noble robes was kneeling on the ground, vomiting violently.
Li Wei closed his eyes, steadied himself, and took a deep breath.
After a dozen deep breaths, the dizziness faded and everything returned to normal.
Only then did he open his eyes and survey his surroundings.
Before him was an immense Teleportation Plaza.
Every now and then, a flash of silver light would herald someone’s arrival or departure from the plaza.
Some people landed and walked off as if nothing had happened.
Others collapsed to the ground, vomiting until they were half-dead.
Li Wei looked up. A massive Floating Island hovered in mid-air, with a tall tower standing at its center.
’Is that the Elemental Tower?’
"Hey, your first time here too?"
Having finished vomiting, the young noble wiped his mouth and tossed a silk handkerchief onto the ground.
His face was still a little pale.
Li Wei nodded. "Yeah. How do we get up there?"
’As an ordinary Tier Two Mage, I probably shouldn’t know a Flying Spell.’
’Besides, I doubt everyone uses a Flying Spell to get up there.’
A quick scan revealed that most of the people around were Tiers One and Two Mages.
The chances of them having mastered a Flying Spell were slim.
The young man smiled and said, "Someone should be coming to take us up."
"I’m Carl. What’s your name?"
Li Wei glanced at his outstretched right hand but didn’t take it.
He said, "Li Wei."
Li Wei started walking toward the edge of the Teleportation Plaza.
Carl froze for a moment when he saw Li Wei refuse to shake his hand.
When he recovered, he quickly followed.
There was a Cleaning Magic Array in the Teleportation Plaza, so the vomit from the new arrivals was quickly cleared away.
Li Wei didn’t have to worry about stepping in anything unpleasant.
Outside the Teleportation Plaza, a group of people were gathered and chatting, while a few others stood off to the side, clearly not part of the group.
Li Wei saw with a single glance that the ones gathered together were all nobles.
The others were commoners.
"Stop right there. Can’t you see we’re all nobles here? Get lost, and watch where you’re going."
Someone stopped Li Wei, their tone dripping with arrogance.
He remembered Gu Ze telling him that while Central Earth was incredibly prosperous, its class system was also exceptionally rigid.
Nobles and commoners were on completely different levels.
Li Wei hadn’t felt it so keenly in Maple City. But he had only just arrived at the Elemental Tower, not even through the gates yet, and he could already feel it.
’The nobles of Central Earth really don’t give a damn about commoners.’
In their eyes, even though Li Wei was a talented Mage who could enter the Elemental Tower just like them, his status was still a tier below theirs.
Li Wei couldn’t be bothered to argue with them, so he turned and walked to the side.
The few people standing nearby saw Li Wei approach and looked like they wanted to say something.
But they glanced at the nobles not far away and kept their mouths shut.
’Nothing good would come from bad-mouthing nobles right now.’
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH!
The sound of rushing wind came from overhead.
Li Wei looked up and saw a Flying Ship descending.
A look of amazement crossed his face; it was his first time seeing a Magic Flying Ship.
"All those heading to the Elemental Tower, board the Flying Ship."
The nobles boarded the Flying Ship one after another. In the blink of an eye, it was full.
The few commoners walked toward the Flying Ship, wanting to get on.
A noble on the Flying Ship called out, "It’s already full. Make them wait for the next one."
"Who do they think they are, trying to ride the same Flying Ship as us!"
Hearing this, the commoners instinctively stopped in their tracks.
Li Wei frowned.
The person piloting the Flying Ship seemed unfazed by this. He said to those who hadn’t boarded, "There’s no more room. You’ll have to wait for the next ship."
With that, he steered the Flying Ship toward the Floating Island.
Only after the Flying Ship was far away did someone finally burst out, "There was clearly enough room if we just squeezed in! They just had to make us wait for the next one. Damn it!"
"These nobles are taking things too far!"
"The next Flying Ship won’t be here until this afternoon. Ugh! A whole day wasted."
Li Wei gazed up at the Floating Island, a feeling that the days to come wouldn’t be very pleasant.
’The class prejudice among Professionals is this severe.’
’It’s hard to imagine how wide the gap is between commoners and nobles in the rest of Central Earth.’
’Is it too late to turn back now?’
Li Wei seriously considered it.
[Evil God Curse (Divine Level)] The Seven Rings—Ring of Arrogance: Do not be arrogant or look down on others.
Li Wei froze. The curse had changed.
’What’s happening?’
He almost laughed out loud. ’What kind of bullshit curse is this?’
’The nobles were the arrogant ones, so what the hell does this have to do with me?’
’I’m even more arrogant than those nobles!’
