Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill
Chapter 228: A Curse That Forces Passivity
Li Wei grew even more arrogant.
Confident in his immense power, he disdained to argue with them.
Certain of his worldly knowledge, he despised the backward feudal system.
"Ring of Arrogance: Forbids the first strike."
Information about the Ring of Arrogance surfaced in Li Wei’s mind.
It was an influx of information from the Evil God Curse.
Just as the name suggested, the Ring of Arrogance restricted Li Wei. He could no longer initiate an attack on others and could only counter-attack.
’This curse is...’
A wisp of Curse Power coiled around Li Wei.
This force restricted his power.
The restriction would only lift when he was attacked.
The arrogant are conceited and haughty, disdaining sneak attacks and pre-emptive strikes.
Li Wei had expected the curse to cause him serious harm.
He never imagined the curse’s effect would be so twisted.
The deeper the Ring of Arrogance’s curse became, the greater the restriction.
For now, Li Wei could still use his Mana and cast Magic.
He just couldn’t be the one to initiate an attack.
If the curse deepened, Li Wei would likely lose his power and be reduced to an ordinary person.
’I have to get this curse removed, and fast!’
He glanced around. The few people who hadn’t managed to board the Flying Ship had found places to sit, preparing to wait until the afternoon.
But Li Wei had no time to waste here.
’First, get into the Elemental Tower. Then, go to the Divine Hall of Light and find someone to help lift the curse.’
Torresta had told him.
After arriving at the Elemental Tower, the first order of business was to register. Only after becoming an official student of the tower could he move freely throughout Central Earth.
And only then would he have a chance to visit the Divine Hall of Light.
Li Wei cast his Object Control Skill.
Since he wasn’t using the magic on anyone else, the Object Control Skill wasn’t restricted by the Ring of Arrogance.
The Ring of Arrogance’s judgment was based on offensive intent.
As long as Li Wei had no offensive intent, he wouldn’t be restricted.
But if he had even the slightest offensive intent, even just wanting to deliberately harm others with a spell’s aftershock, he would be unable to use his power.
Two cyan wings materialized on Li Wei’s back, carrying him toward the Floating Island.
The few people on the ground stared up at him, their faces full of surprise.
"Wind Elf Wings! He’s loaded!"
"A single Flying Magic Scroll probably costs two or three hundred Gold Coins. He should have just waited for the afternoon Flying Ship. What a waste."
No one thought Li Wei could actually cast Wind Elf Wings.
Li Wei looked far too young to be a Tier Three Mage.
Besides, if he were a Tier Three Mage, he wouldn’t have been here waiting for the Flying Ship.
He could have flown directly from the Teleportation Array to the Floating Island.
Li Wei flew toward the Floating Island.
Of course, the wings on his back were not the Tier Three Wind Magic, Wind Elf Wings.
It was his Tier Three Object Control Skill.
Before coming to the Elemental Tower, Li Wei had already advanced his Tier Two Perfect Level Object Control Skill to Tier Three.
The Tier Three Object Control Skill offered even greater control.
It was gradually evolving toward Telekinesis.
This allowed Li Wei to do much more with his Object Control Skill.
One such new ability was shaping.
Previously, he could only envelop objects directly with Mana to move them.
He could also shape his Mana into a palm, recreating the Mage’s Hand to grasp objects.
Now, with his Object Control Skill, Li Wei could mold his Mana into all sorts of shapes.
For example, wings that resembled Wind Elf Wings.
By infusing the Wind Element into the Mana he had molded into wings, they looked identical to genuine Wind Elf Wings.
This was an excellent way to conceal his Object Control Skill.
Previously, Wicks had coveted Li Wei’s Object Control Skill, which had led to so much trouble.
Li Wei didn’t want to repeat that mistake.
A Tier Two Mage knowing a Tier Three Wind Magic spell would be surprising and draw attention.
But that was still far better than revealing an unprecedented Flying Spell.
Li Wei flew up to the Floating Island.
The passengers from the Flying Ship were disembarking. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
When they saw Li Wei fly up, they were all shocked.
"A Tier Three Mage?"
"No, he’s a Tier Two Mage. He must have used a Magic Scroll."
"Such a waste!"
Li Wei landed, and the wings on his back vanished.
He was wearing the Tier Two Mage Robe that Torresta had prepared for him.
Two stars were embroidered on the chest of the Mage Robe.
This was how some people had identified him as a Tier Two Mage.
"New students register over here."
Not far off was a small booth with a sign that read, "New Student Registration."
The crowd headed in that direction.
Li Wei followed behind them.
Carl deliberately fell behind the crowd and made his way to the back.
"Sorry, I couldn’t help you back there."
He was referring to when the nobles refused to let Li Wei and the others board the Flying Ship.
Li Wei said, "It’s nothing. We don’t really know each other."
’He never expected anyone to help him for no reason.’
’Carl was only making conversation because he’d seen that I had a bit of ’money power.’’
Seeing Li Wei’s cold attitude, Carl didn’t press the issue.
Li Wei walked up to the registration booth.
He saw the sign on the booth read, "Registration Fee: One Hundred Gold Coins."
He paid the one hundred gold coins.
’Good thing I brought money,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, coming here empty-handed, I wouldn’t have even been able to register.’
"Want a guide for the entrance exam? Twenty gold coins a copy."
"Your exam score determines your class placement. If you end up in one of the lowest-ranked classes, your future here is bleak."
"With my exam guide, I can at least guarantee you’ll achieve an upper-middle score."
Li Wei glanced at the small booklet in the man’s hand.
"Thanks, but I don’t need it."
Seeing this, the man shook his head and put the booklet away.
Li Wei followed the crowd toward the examination area.
The classes at the Elemental Tower were graded according to the seven colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, and Purple.
The resources available to the students in each class were also different.
The Red Level Class was the lowest, and the Purple Level Class was the highest.
Legend had it that this class ranking system was based on the original levels of Mages.
The earliest Mages had been graded according to the seven colors of the rainbow.
Tiers One through Seven corresponded to the seven colors of the rainbow.
Li Wei arrived at the entrance exam area.
The exam was to be held within a Secret Realm.
It was divided into two parts.
The first part was a test of Magic Theory, worth fifty points.
The second part was a practical combat test for Mages, also worth fifty points.
For a total of one hundred points.
Li Wei presented his Magic Badge. The Mage guarding the entrance to the Secret Realm glanced at it and said, "Go on in."
He walked into the exam’s Secret Realm.
Li Wei couldn’t help but marvel at the Elemental Tower’s extravagance.
’To think they’d create an entire Secret Realm just for testing students.’
Upon entering the Secret Realm, Li Wei saw that everyone was enveloped in an orb of light, their figures completely obscured.
Questions materialized before Li Wei’s eyes.
「One hour later.」
The orb of light shattered; Li Wei’s test was over.
Score: 10 points.
He only got those ten points because he’d stumbled upon a question about spell derivation, a topic he was actually good at.
Otherwise, he would have gotten a goose egg.
Li Wei had never even heard of the Magic Theory and magical terms used in many of the questions.
He was a pure combat practitioner, completely clueless about theory.
He was great at fighting, but ask him to study magic, and he was completely lost.
’This is rough,’ he thought. ’What a bad start.’
Li Wei walked deeper into the Secret Realm.
The surrounding scenery shifted, and he found himself on an arena platform.
The platform was circular and one hundred meters in diameter.
The figure of a Tier Two Cyan Steel Wolf Magic Beast emerged.
"Defeat the Cyan Steel Wolf to complete the practical combat exam."
Li Wei couldn’t see them.
In the spectator stands surrounding the arena, the Elemental Tower’s instructors stared at his theory score in astonishment.
"A theory score this bad? How did he even manage to cultivate to Tier Two?"
"The Mage Association is getting way too irresponsible with their talent screening. To think they’d send over someone who clearly just piled up resources to get this far."
"His file says he’s only sixteen. Hmph! Is this all a sixteen-year-old Tier Two Mage can do? The Mage Association has really gone too far, even faking his age."
