He Proposed to His First Love, So I Married His Archenemy
Chapter 108: He’s Going to Do Something Drastic
"Who are you?"
Yvonne Sutton quickly gave chase, but the person raised their camera and immediately ran off.
Back home, the more Yvonne thought about it, the more something felt wrong. She called Silas Rhodes, and he brought a tech expert over first thing in the morning.
Yvonne gave her phone to the tech expert. He looked through it for a moment and confirmed that surveillance software had been installed.
"It must have been Vincent Reed," Yvonne said with a frown.
"So where and when do you think he installed it?" Silas asked.
Yvonne thought for a moment. She had just gotten a new phone, and she hadn’t had any contact with Vincent Reed since then. There was only one possibility.
At that thought, Yvonne hurried to check her home’s security footage.
She searched for a long time and found that a segment of the footage had indeed been deleted. But that wasn’t a problem for the expert Silas had brought over; he recovered it quickly.
The video showed Vincent Reed sneaking into the living room, picking up her phone from the coffee table, and quickly installing the surveillance software.
"That son of a bitch! Is he insane?!" Silas snarled, about to go and settle the score with Vincent Reed.
Yvonne stopped him, her voice low and serious. "Let me handle this myself."
After Silas left, Mina Adler called to tell her she was trending online again.
Yvonne went online and saw that she was indeed a trending topic. The posts included photos of her and Vincent Reed entering a hotel one after the other, leaving the hotel together, and arguing outside.
A married man and a married woman—plus their respective statuses—caused the topic to explode online.
Wendy Winters had immediately posted her own "exposé," claiming that Yvonne was the reason for her previous marital problems with Vincent Reed. She alleged they couldn’t forget their old flame and were cheating on their respective partners.
Netizens always love a good drama. Even without knowing the full story, it didn’t stop them from passionately spewing their opinions. Scrolling down, all she saw were insults directed at her, from random netizens and Wendy Winters’s fans. Even though Wendy had been blacklisted, she still had supporters.
Yvonne had been stressed enough lately without having her name dragged through the mud for no reason.
She took a deep breath. ’You forced my hand,’ she thought. She wrote a long post detailing her past with Vincent Reed, his scummy behavior of proposing to Wendy Winters every year, and all the ways Wendy deliberately strung him along. She also revealed how Wendy had cheated with Stanley Lynch, gotten pregnant, made Vincent marry her, and then continued her affair with Stanley during the marriage. She laid it all out, every last detail.
After putting the post on her homepage, she also uploaded the video of Vincent Reed sneaking into her house to install the surveillance software on her phone.
She stated that Vincent Reed had followed her to the hotel the previous night and that her anger was clearly visible in the photos.
"I’ve already reported this to the police. Vincent Reed broke into my home to install surveillance software on my phone, and Wendy Winters hired someone to secretly photograph me and then slandered me online. Neither of you will get away with this. Let the law deal with you!"
Not long after she posted it, Wendy Winters deleted her exposé and publicly apologized to Yvonne, claiming it might have all been a misunderstanding.
"A misunderstanding? Then please, go explain it to the police," Yvonne replied directly.
Around noon, they were both taken away by the police. Yvonne didn’t pay attention to what happened next. Her mind was entirely focused on finding Wyatt Shaw.
But in the blink of an eye, three months passed. Spring had arrived, yet she still had no news of Wyatt Shaw. She was even starting to wonder if he would ever appear again.
The Rhodes Family had learned of Wyatt’s disappearance and were also using their connections to search for him.
"Dr. Sutton, my lower abdomen has been feeling uncomfortable for a while now. Could you take a look?"
Yvonne’s clinic had opened a month ago. Thanks to word-of-mouth from her patients, it had gotten busy recently, and she was planning to hire another doctor.
The patient was a woman in her forties. After listening to her symptoms, Yvonne had a general idea of the problem. She asked the woman to go to the back room for an examination.
After seeing the patient out, it was nearly noon.
Yvonne cooked some noodles while gazing at the pomegranate tree outside the window. All the other trees were sprouting new leaves, but it alone remained bare.
Wyatt Shaw had said the pomegranates from this tree were very sweet. She wondered if he would get to eat any this year.
Just as the noodles were ready, her phone rang.
Yvonne picked up her phone and saw it was an unknown number.
"Hello?"
A rolling sound came from the phone. After a moment’s wait, a voice finally spoke. "Excuse me, do you know a Wyatt Shaw?"
Yvonne was stunned for a second, then quickly replied, "Yes, I know him. Who is this?"
"Oh, I’m the owner of a guesthouse. He’s a guest here."
"Where is your guesthouse? Can you send me the location?"
"I can, but you need to come quickly. I’m afraid he might do something drastic." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Yvonne’s heart clenched. "Did something happen to him?"
After hanging up, Yvonne immediately called David Sutton. She packed a couple of changes of clothes, locked up the clinic, and by the time she was done, David had arrived in a hurry.
She got into David Sutton’s car, and they headed for Brightwater Town.
Three hours later, they reached the town and found the guesthouse. Because they had been in contact on the way, the owner was already waiting for them at the entrance.
Yvonne got out of the car and saw the guesthouse owner was a woman in her thirties. She was fashionable and beautiful, but she was in a wheelchair.
"Hello, you must be Ms. Churchill?" Yvonne approached her.
Zoe Churchill nodded. "Are you Mrs. Shaw?"
"I am." Yvonne was anxious and asked directly, "Where is Wyatt Shaw?"
At the mention of his name, Zoe Churchill’s brow furrowed.
"Is there something wrong with him mentally? He’s always in a daze, and he keeps going up to the roof of the tallest building in our town. I’ve seen him standing on the edge several times, looking like he’s about to jump."
As she spoke, Zoe Churchill led them away from the guesthouse. "He’s not in his room. I reckon he’s gone to the roof of that building again. You’re his family, you have to talk some sense into him. He’s not old, why is he always thinking of doing something foolish?"
Hearing Zoe’s words, Yvonne’s heart leaped into her throat. David Sutton was even more frantic, sprinting ahead, but in his haste, he took a few wrong turns.
Fortunately, the town wasn’t large, and they soon arrived at the building.
"Look, he’s up there, just as I thought," Zoe Churchill said, pointing at the roof.
Yvonne looked up and saw Wyatt Shaw standing right on the railing of the rooftop, his eyes staring into the distance, looking as if he were about to take the plunge.
David Sutton charged up first, with Yvonne right behind him.
One after the other, they reached the rooftop and saw Wyatt was already at the edge.
"Wyatt! Don’t jump! There’s nothing that can’t be solved! You still have us!" David Sutton yelled in his booming voice, which had already started to tremble.
Yvonne was panicking too. "Wyatt, don’t do this. We can talk, we can talk about anything. Whatever you want."
